Change the 'Citation Online' feature for the content type=Report for ASFA records when full text is available
I would like to propose that the content type=Report for Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) records are changed so that ASFA records with Full text links can be shown instead of 'Citation Online' which is misleading to the client. We have inputted thousands of government document records in ASFA which have a full text link but these links are not currently displayed in the Summon Brief results. ASFA is no longer just an abstract and indexing database as it now includes links to full text publications and grey literature. This should be changed as it can impact all users…

Linking correct URL: Ebook Central Perpetual and DDA (AABBV)
For some titles in this database not only one but several URLs are stored in the Client Center. Then the correct URL is not always selected and the link to the full text does not work correctly. Although the link leads to the Ebook Central platform and the correct title is opened, but access does not work. A message appears that this title is not available. Then the correct URL must be added manually in the Client Center as "User-specific URL". Work can be saved and processes simplified if the workflow is set to automatically use the correct URL of…

Support the use of French boolean operators
Searching using the French boolean operators - et/ou/sauf -- is not currently fully supported in Summon. This would be a useful addition to those libraries who provide a French interface to their instance of Summon.

Improvements to manage larger sets of volatile Best Bets
To manage Best Bets more rigourously I would offer this additional functionality:
a) Export all current best bets to Excel (Much simpler to manage and check for currency outside of admin interface)b) Provide a way to mark all existing Best Bets for deletion with one click so that the updated spreadsheet (from point a) can be imported to Summon without requiring every existing Best Bet to marked for deletion to prevent duplications.

Books that have popular alternative titles (i.e. 'Civil Procedure' = 'The White Book') should be searchable under those titles
Books that have popular alternative titles (i.e. 'Civil Procedure' = 'The White Book' in most law libraries) should be searchable under those titles. At the very least Summon should prioritise the 246 alternate title field more than it currently does.

Create system agnostic ways to integrate with the UI e.g. chat and readings
At the moment, you have to cross your fingers and hope ProQuest/ExLibris partner with the system you want integrated. For example Summon supports LibraryH3lp, Springshare's LibAnswers or OCLC's QuestionPoint chat widgets. We use a different system. I would like to see fields in the Admin console that are not provider specific. e.g. Enter your chat widget code here. Similarly we would like to see integration with our course readings system. That system has APIs that would allow us to link out to lists based on a course/unit code search. It would be great if there was a way to introduce…

Add DOI registered by other registration agencies than CrossRef to "Citation Trail".
It seems that recent "Citation trail" is referring DOI registered by CrossRef.
But there are many publishers and universities in the world which use DOI registered by other registration agencies like JaLC, KISTI, CNKI and so on. It would be beneficial for Summon users in the world if it could be realized.37 votes -
Display parallel titles in Summon
The correction in Summon to index parallel titles as titles (instead of as subtitles) was welcomed; however, the resulting elimination of parallel titles in search results displays was not. In the current iteration of Summon, which parallel title appears in the catalog is solely left to chance, and whichever appears first in a bibliographic record. However, if Summon can display all other title subfields and information in search results, including subfields B, N and P, it should include parallel title information as well. The lack of parallel titles is problematic for patron search and retrieval. For example, a patron searching…

Fields 530 and 550^i not displaying in Summon for records from Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (database F1W)
I would like to propose that the default settings for the content type=Government document record to be changed. Currently, the default "brief" view does not include the volume/Issue data for content type=government documents. Instead, the Issue field data is located in the Preview section and the client would need to know to click on the Preview button in order to see the volume/issue number. This is not user-friendly or obvious to clients. In particular, this is not working for the display of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstract records.

Take "Language" field information from 546 and not 041
Please take information for the “Language” field in Summon and the Alma Display Services page from the 546 language note bibliographic field, instead of the 041 language codes bibliographic field. The 546 language note contains more detailed information about the languages included in a resource than the 041, including whether they’re for subtitles, described video, summaries as opposed to full articles, translations, etc. The current information in the Language display is not helpful for patrons. Not only does it not give details about how the languages appear in a resource, the displayed languages aren’t consistent with the language of the…

No information on the necessity to use parentheses in complex queries on Summon Search Query Help
Currently, there is no information about the necessity to use parentheses in case of more complex search queries in the Summon Search Query help (at least in our library and I was told that the help page is the same around the world). Users who often use Google Scholar as a rule of thumb do not use parentheses because Google works well even without them but in case of Summon, the use of parentheses in more complex queries is essential.

Allow A-Z order for Best Bets admin display
When you have a long list of Best Bets and they don't automatically get ordered alphabetically, the admin work becomes quite unpleasant when editing/removing entries etc.

Define content types non-exclusively
Define content types non-exclusively, i.e., allow multiple content type definitions to apply to a single resource -- for example, the same resource might be both a "catalog" and a "book." Defining it as a "catalog" should not mean it is excluded in a search limited to "books."

Keeping stop words as part of phrase searching
Currently, there is a limitation to phrase searching in that if a stop word appears at the end of a phrase it is dropped. This has greatly affected gender studies researchers specifically, in that the phrase "coming out" is unable to be searched - as "out" is considered a stop word in English. If a researcher is conducting a phrase search, what is included within the quotations should be searched. The idea is that phrase searching should conduct searches on what is within paragraphs regardless of stop words.

Library Locations > Translation in english
The library's locations are currently displayed in German only. We would like to add the English terms.
With the language setting "German" the locations should be displayed in German - as it is currently. In addition, the terms of the locations should be displayed in English in the language setting "English".

Licence terms displayed in Summon search results
We would like to see the same functionality in Summon as is currently available in Primo - licence terms being visible in search results within the Summon interface.
As we are on Intota for our ERM, we would want to see Intota licence content linked to Summon search results and displaying there.

Indicate when content is freely available (but not tracked)
When searching with 'add results beyond your library's collection' ticked, all non-tracked content is labelled 'Citation Only'. However some of this content is in fact freely available, for example lots of content in institutional repositories.
Summon should have a way to indicate that content may be freely available even when not tracked, for content in non-tracked open access journals or open repositories. If it's too difficult for Summon to know when something is available, maybe we could have a third label (other than 'full text online' and 'citation only') for content from repositories where there is a high probability of…

Add Cite Them Right as option for exporting citations
Cite Them Right is a citation service similar to Citace.com and EasyBib that is gaining popularity. To support individuals and institutions who want this option, we would add this option where other citation services are currently offered in Summon. Institions should be able to choose to turn this on or off as an option. It should be included as an option under the Export To lists found in the menu behind the elipses (...) menu for each search result. It should also be available as an option for Export To in the Saved Items folder.
