How can we improve Primo?

  1. Allow Primo users to report inaccurate metadata on a record directly to Ex Libris

    We've had several cases where metadata was incorrect in a Primo record. The user (in several occasions the author of the article) reported the issue to their library, who reported it to us (BIBSYS consortium), and we reported this to Ex Libris.

    Once the issue was fixed, after quite some time, the feedback followed the same road, back to the user.

    It would be more efficient if metadata issues could be reported directly to the instance actually able to correct them, which is Ex Libris.

  2. holdings information search "starts with"

    When searching for Holdings Information in advanced search then changing the operator option to "Starts with", changes the search to Title rather than holding information.
    The "starts with" operator should only be an option when the user is using the Title Search operator.

  3. Support html in GES public notes in How to Get it section

    We are considering moving a couple of our general electronic services from the "Links" section to the "How to Get it" section. However HTML tags in the public note are not recognised when we change it from Links to How to Get It.

    I would have expected that public notes should always support HTML tags as they are exposed publicly via Primo.

  4. Search Limiters for Accessibility Features

    As a cataloger, I would like to propose a new option to filter search results for items with accessibility features (captions, audio descriptions, large print, etc). We are in the process of adding 041 subfields (mostly p and q), and 341 and 532 fields to our records in order to help users more easily identify items intended for those with hearing or visual disabilities. Ideally, this feature would utilize that input based on the presence of indicators in the 341 or 532 fields (i.e., 0 and 1) or controlled vocabulary terms to create search facets or indications (similar to the…

  5. Make consistent the use of CDI record data in Primo UI

    Current CDI design in Primo UI is to expose metadata from all participant records for both returning results from a search query, and in the values presented for selection in facet for filtering results, but the display of metadata within records is only by site-specific activations.
    This means that a user can search for a term in Primo, have results returned on the basis of that term, select the value for the term in a facet, but then not see the term in the record display.

  6. Ranking of search results by Resource Sharing Library

    Concerning search results in Primo : could it be made possible to rank different holdings of the same title by Resource Sharing Library of the patron? This way the patron would see on top of the list the item that is the easiest accessible to him. At present patrons often request items from another library because they did not notice the title is also available at their own library.

  7. Ability to customise resource sharing status messages displayed in MyAccount Requests tab

    We would like the ability to customize patron-facing status messages during the interlibrary loan process.

    • Client feedback clearly indicates that status messages that are meaningful for library staff can be misleading to the Primo end user. Note: The Borrowing RS Request Statuses Alma configuration page (Alma configuration / Fulfillment / Resource Sharing) does not include external description / customisation options like other mapping/code tables, e.g. Physical Locations or Discovery Interface Display Logic Labels.

  8. Increase the number of local fields for search and facets

    If the library has many specialized and local fields it should be possible to improve the user search without the build-in restriction of 10 locally defined fields. There should not be a limit to use of local fields.

  9. More options for Collection Discovery images

    Hi

    In Collection Discovery, please allow more options for the images per collection:

    – Allow a separte image for the header banner of the single collection page.

    For the overview page, the picture has to have the dimensions 3:1. The same picture is used for the header of the collection.
    This leads to the pictures looking bad and often the description of the collection is hard to read.
    Please make these 2 separate pictures to be uploaded and make the default header banner a monochrome colour taken from the css.

  10. Provide Toggle Checkbox When Including Results with No Full-Text

    Please provide a toggle checkbox when the setting is configured to include results with no full-text. We would like to present all results by default and then let a person remove unwanted results (i.e., results with no full text).

    The current setup is the reverse and is contrary to the idea of filtering. People use filters to narrow their search results, not expand them.

    Also, I know there is a Full-Text Online facet, but this only appears after you select a resource type facet. Therefore, this method is not convenient to achieve the same thing.

    By now, only the preferred address defined in Alma is displayed in Primo my account. All Alma user addresses should be displayed and be editable by patrons in my account of Primo. This is important for better transparency and to avoid invalid and deprecated addresses.   12. "Title starts with" advanced search should search alternate titles, too

    The "Title starts with" advanced search in Primo and Primo VE only searches the 245 field, not the 246. This is problematic in cases where a title contains special characters, numbers, etc. For instance, if a user is doing a "Title starts with" search for a book called "Understanding & Dismantling Racism," they would need to use the ampersand rather than spelling out "and" in order to find the book.   13. Adding Facets to Database Search page.

    By adding a 'Facets' pane to the Database Search results page, consistency between the different search type's results will be improved and users will be able to post-filter Find Databases searches.
    For example: a user would be able to filter by both subject AND resource type as used to be possible when the Metalib interface was used for the Databases A-Z list.

  14. Add the PNX creator field to records in the Collection Discovery interface

    The brief display of the items records in the Collection Discovery interface contains only the document type and the document title, We propose to add at least the creator PNX field to give the user more information about the document without having to open the full display. Ideally, we would like to be able to customize whjch fields appear in the brief display as we already do for the brief display in the result list.

  15. Display multi-lingual values in facets in a consistent order

    Currently, same values in different languages in multi-lingual facets (topic, author) appear randomly.

    We suggest to create a consistent language order independent of the sort by_size configuration option, so that the values in these facets will be displayed by the determined order. For example, if the order will be: Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Cyrillic - the values will always be displayed by this same language order.

  16. Display all blocks and patron limits in Primo My Account

    The My Account page in Primo only displays blocks of the blocks tab in the Alma user details page so that a patron who logs in Primo and unsuccessfully attemps to renew an item from the library isn’t notified about blocks that are applied based on patron limits/ library-definied rules such as maximum cash limit. The My Account page should display all blocks.

  17. Differenciating the code for PCI records from the code for Alma records

    The PCI records that we don't subscribe and the Alma records without holding show the same labels on Get It section because they share the codes, such as:

    We want those two groups of records to be distinguished from each other so that we can apply different labels giving more customized information to our patrons.

  18. Penalization date visible in users' loan page

    Hello! It would be great once we had read the bar code of the user, and we have the general information to do a loan or a return it will be great if there we can see the date until they can't borrow books. If not it is a problem because they ask you until when they are ban and we have to go until their profile to penalty section to see it.

  19. Primo Back Office: In a consortial environment, Ability to localize Alma collections to a specific instance of Primo

    Hello.

    Our university system is in a consortial configuration of Alma and Primo Back Office.

    Currently, we cannot use Alma collections because one university's (local and institution-specific) collections display in all other Primo instances in our consortia. This is problematic and confusing because a collection at University A displays in University B's Primo as if it were University B's collection. But the collection is local and specific to University A only.

  20. We would like patrons to be able to view their library barcode in Primo.

    Under My Library Account > Personal Details, we think patrons should be able to view their library barcode number. We use ours in additional systems, and we think it would be helpful to point someone to their library account details.
