Add facets into the Collection Discovery UI
While we are really happy that the functionality to search withing collections is planned, we propose to implement the facets also for the Collection Discovery.
Facets are very useful to limit results in big collections for discovery and browsing, when the user doesn't know exactly what he is looking for. We do have several big collections.
Also, functionality would be more consistent with the Primo Search interface.315 votesHi,
The facets in the Collection Discovery page are now available in the New Primo Discovery user interface - from June 2025 release.

Provide a way to configure which citation style is the default selection in the Citations dialogue
It would be helpful if we could set a particular citation style to be the default style that is selected when users open the 'Citations' dialogue from the 'Send to' actions. At present it always opens on APA because it is the first style in the list.
For example at my institution we have courses that use APA and MLA, but the majority use Harvard style, so I'd like Harvard to be the 'selected' style shown when the dialogue opens.
24 votesPrimo now supports Citation Style Language (CSL).
You can now manage which citation styles to display and the order of them -
Journal coverage dates to show in the brief results page
Would like the ability to configure Primo to display the coverage dates found in the Alma portfolio record to display in the Primo brief results.
Currently, dates from the Alma bibliographic can display in the brief results but usually the publication date found in the bib differs than the coverage in the portfolio.
Our patrons and staff would like to do a search for ejournals and see from the results what our coverage/holdings are without clicking into the full details.514 votesIn Primo VE November 2021 and coming soon in February 2022 for Primo BO the Journal coverage will be added to the Availability line in the Brief results and Journal Search interface, allow users to easily understand the electronic coverage of the Journals managed in your Alma. More details can be found in Primo VE release notes.

New UI: Set automatically the cursor in the search box
Hello,
A feature that many users would like to see in the Primo new UI is to have the cursor already in the search box when they open the page. The user would be able to type directly their query and not have to click first in the search box. In the Primo classic UI, the cursor was already in the search box.
The SF case 00508525 was about the same issue.
Thank you.
184 votesThank you for posting this idea. Primo out of the box will have the cursor set at the top of the page, to place the focus in the search box you should a configuration as mention in Primo February 2020 release notes – Support Configuration of the Search Box’s Focus

Allow users to choose how many results to see
With a lot of online retail sites, users are able to choose how many search hits they see per page.
Would this be a helpful addition to Primo?
After all, since the new UI was introduced, the subject of infinite-scrolling vs paging has been contentious amongst Ex Libris customers. It has already led to the addition of the 'Next Page' widget.
Allowing users to choose how many hits they would like to see might take a lot of the debate from us, and put the decision directly into the hands of the end user.
85 votesThank you for this suggestion. With the new pagination method released in Primo May release, Primo VE June release , users will be able to set the number of results to 10, 25 or 50.

Improve FRBR item chosen for brief display so that most recent edition displays
When selecting a FRBRed item to display in the Brief Results, a book with multiple editions should always display the most recent edition by default. I have tried all kinds date boosting in the search engine configurations, and I still can't get this to happen. Example: we have many editions of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, up to the 19th ed., and they are listed in the right order when you click "See all versions". However, the edition that displays in the Brief Display is the 12th edition. I've searched this title in other institutions, and they seem to have…

Separate language menu
In August release 2018, there is finally a good improvement in the sign in area, but unfortunately the language selection is now inside a personal menu. If guests user enters Primo which by default is not in his native language, they wouldn't know what to do. There is a nice solution created by Manneheim University, and I hope Exlibris will take it as an example:

Make facets sticky by default for the session
I would like to suggest that Primo's facets should be sticky by default (or at least that this should be a configuration option). The "Reset filters" link right below the selected filters implies that filters will stick unless reset; users find this confusing. I agree with other posters' points about the lock icon being visible at all times, and that a selection of New Search should automatically clear sticky facets, but otherwise, I would like to propose that facets should stick unless the user either selects New Search, or clicks "Reset filters" (perhaps this could be renamed "Clear filters"). This…

My Library Card - Display Renew icon for all loans (New UI)
There is no Renew icon for the loans that can't be renewed in Primo now.It made library patrons puzzled when they can't renew some loans, Because they can't find the Renew Icon.It would be very useful to display the Renew icon for all loans. When the loans can't be renewed, the icon can be another one and the patrons would be prompted for the reason.
153 votesThank you for posting this idea. This feature was released in August for Primo and PrimoVE users

Primo VE doesn't have a boosting ability
Primo VE can't boost like traditional Primo. We would like to see that brought in for us to be able to boost similar to how it is configured in the back office

Display of 541 and 561 fields in holdings records should be determined by value in first indicator of the field
Currently if display of 541 and/or 561 fields in holdings records is enabled in "Holdings Display Customization", 541 and/or 561 fields display in the GetIt section in Primo regardless of the value in the first indicator. If the value in the first indicator is zero then the 541/561 field should not be displayed - this is standard MARC coding (see https://www.loc.gov/marc/holdings/hd541.html and https://www.loc.gov/marc/holdings/hd561.html ).
Ex Libris proposed a solution to us where when the holdings record is saved the a 541 and/or 561 field with first indicator empty or 1 is copied to a 999 field, and in the Holdings…

Improve visibility of sticky facets
The sticky facets are an excellent addition to the functionality of the new UI, but the probability of users discovering them is quite low.
In usability testing students will alter their search terms without ever hovering their mouse over the filters they have applied to their previous search, and then have to reapply the filters.
While the padlock is hidden behind a mouseover interaction this very desirable functionality is undiscoverable.
Also in its current configuration the tooltips for the selected filter and the padlock clash.
The padlock for making your selected filter 'sticky' should be visible by default, and probably…

Increase the number of records allowed in the “View Online” tab
Right now, only 25 records can be displayed under the “view online” tab in Primo. If this limit is increased, or removed entirely, libraries will have greater flexibility when creating collections. For example, we have 48 local portfolios that we linked to a single bib record, and we would like all of those portfolios to be displayed under the “view online” tab of that item. So, we propose removing the limit altogether, allowing libraries to decide how many records they want to appear under the “view online” tab. We worked on this project with Ex Libris, and they ultimately advised…

Adding a "requester note" in Primo for a patron when making a purchase request
There is no possibility in Primo for a patron to add a note to explain why a they would like the library to purchase an item, when making a purchase request.
However, In Alma there is a "requester note" where you can state the reason the patron has requested the item, but this cannot be done in Primo.
So I suggest adding a requesters note in Primo, so the library will have more information as to why they should purchase an item for a patron.

Add more citation styles to Primo VE
Currently Primo offers the Chicago/Turabian style that is the student version of The Chicago Manual of Style. Please see the difference here: http://cmosshoptalk.com/2015/02/03/for-students-is-turabian-style-the-same-as-chicago-style/

My Library Card - Personal Details ability to Disable Edit option
Currently patrons can access the area
My Library Card/Personal Details
Where there is an option to edit their details (address, phone number etc).
As our borrower details all come from corporate systems we would like to disable the edit function as, for example, students changing/updating any details such as their address should occur via the student record system not in Primo as a standalone action which will lead to confusion.
In the old UI there was at least a tip on the edit page:
"Changes to e-mail address and text message number will be reflected in Primo only."It would…

Configure option to display export to Leganto action for certain usergroup
We do not allow students to create reading lists so the export to reading list action is redundant for most of our users. We would like for staff to see the icon when they are logged in to Primo but otherwise it should be hidden.
23 votesWe are closing this idea and would like to provide details on the “Reading List” option in Primo as exist todays.
The “Reading list” action in Primo is available for both stuff members and students:
- For stuff members there will be an option to select to which reading list they can add a citation
- For a student there will be option to add a citation to his collection , we have recently change the text to make it more clear to the patrons that they can “click on the ‘Add to Reading List’ button to add a citation to their collection”
- Don't see your idea?
