How can we improve Primo?

Make facets sticky by default for the session

I would like to suggest that Primo's facets should be sticky by default (or at least that this should be a configuration option). The "Reset filters" link right below the selected filters implies that filters will stick unless reset; users find this confusing. I agree with other posters' points about the lock icon being visible at all times, and that a selection of New Search should automatically clear sticky facets, but otherwise, I would like to propose that facets should stick unless the user either selects New Search, or clicks "Reset filters" (perhaps this could be renamed "Clear filters"). This is how PubMed functions, with an additional notification at the top of results that selected filters will remain in place until the user clears them.

I'd like to add that there should be a way to enable the sticky facets via a URL parameter, so you could link to a page with the facet locked on by default. You can currently link to a page ( or construct a search form) that has a facet chosen already, but there is no way to have it chosen and "stuck".

From a user experience perspective, it's very confusing for a user to select facets and then have them disappear. When selecting New Search, the user would of course expect the facets to clear, but otherwise the expectation is that they will stay the same as selected. Thank you!

Sticky facets are very important for our students, who are just learning how to evaluate the sources they are finding. Many of them have never encountered a scholarly article before, so to have a filter that sticks and stays is critical.

As a library coming from Summon to VE- we are hearing lots of disappointment about the lack of sticky facets. We advertise and utilize sticky facets in our library instruction and have received negative feedback about the lack since our summer Primo Go-Live. This enhancement is an extremely valuable one!

YES!! I got on here just now to post this exact thing! Thank you :)

ExL could make it a toggle in the config area, then organizations can choose whether sticky facets are default or not for their users.
