Visually Indicate Boolean AND Grouping of Facets
This is in reaction to a discussion on the mailing list ("[Primo] facets - issue with selecting one-by-one vs. multiple") and to have an idea for the other option (in contrast to [0]) to resolve the dilemma described there:
Instead of changing the system behavior it would be good to indicate what is happening. In general it makes sense that after selecting one facet, looking at the results and deciding to add another facet that the boolean connection of these two facets will be "AND", while selecting some facets in one go is likely intended to be an "OR".
Forms of visual indication that seem to be possible here for facets that are connected by AND:
* They are on the same "line", where each line will be separated from the next by either a thin line or a change in color
* Each AND-connected group of facets have the same color - which is likely to be harder to implement as these would have to fit with the design of a lot of institutions.
* The groups are indicated by a small numeric prefix - not sure if this is more confusing than the status quo.
The idea of visually "grouping" the facets came to me as the URL contains a numeric value that either matches (AND) or differs (OR) for the different searches.
If any voters have another and/or better idea of indicating the AND-connected "groups", please add a comment!
Hello,
This is planned to be implemented in the new primo experience user interface.
Regards,
Yael.

I like what DTU https://findit.dtu.dk does, see screenshot.
But they don't have an exclude option for facets, and the AND between the different facet groups is not shown, either. -

That would be great, yes.

It would also be helpful if you could control the Boolean operators. I.e. choose between AND, OR and NOT.

And make this something that is continually visible, not something that only appears on hover.
