1. Add ability to export assets from public researcher profile in Excel format

   Right now if you look at a public researcher profile, the only export options you have are BibTex and RIS. Our users would like to use Excel as well to make reporting easier.

2. Issue with OA status on closed asset with open manuscript

   There seems to be no way to add an open access manuscript to an asset for a work whose published version is closed without listing the entire asset as OA.

   This is a major issue because a central use case for Esploro is to provide openly accessible manuscript versions of closed works. This problem means that we currently cannot add an open manuscript to a non-OA asset (i.e. journal article) without marking the entire asset as OA, which is incorrect and misleading.

   There is a workaround, but fixing this would be extremely helpful in the long run as we scale up.

3. Zotero - Esploro: can you make it work?

   We recommend all our users to use Zotero as their reference management software. Its connector captures a lot of metadata from a vast variety of sources...but in Esploro it doesn't work. I dont see how we can encourage users to use this platform when at the moment of the research they will have to go get the metadata from another source or manually enter it. We would love to be able to use the Zotero connector when in Esploro to capture the metadata and the pdf if possible, of the item. Could you please take this idea into consideration? Thanks in advance.

4. Add ability to embed video in Esploro content areas.

   At the moment, iframes (embedded video players) are not supported in Esploro. Embedded video might include content relevant to research profiles, projects, grants, and other areas where videos are already hosted elsewhere (e.g. youtube). This would enhance researcher profile records, and allow the ability to include more engaging content. Please consider including this functionality in all relevant areas, specifically descriptions, summaries, etc.

5. Administrator emails for asset messages

   Currently, any notifications from researchers regarding asset communications are only visible to administrators via the task list. Even though assets with active messages are separated into its own category in the task list, we would like notifications for assets that already have active messages and received additional messages to be more direct. Notifications could be sent as an email to the administrator or at the least some notification in the task list that there is a new message and which asset it belongs to. As is, it’s not clear which asset has received an additional message and requires drilling down a bit to find it.

6. Marking Honors, scholarship, projects, or activities as "featured" to better highlight them

   Some faculty or researchers have honors, activities, scholarship, or projects that in some sense defines them. Instead of those items blending in with everything else, it would be nice to have a way of highlighting or featuring certain things. As an example, if someone won the nobel prize, they would most certainly want that to be made more prominent in some way.

7. Expertise Finder

   Esploro is capable of being an Expert Finder but limited to subject matter expertise gleaned from your Research Topics. What about an entire area for Expertise in the profile? The idea would be to list things you consider yourself an expert in (using the same taxomonies already available or free text) and offer toggles for :
   -willing to be contacted about
   -willing to mentor
   -willing to assist in an emergency
   -willing to serve on a committee
   etc..

   Then the expertise is explicitly searchable and also indicative of people willing to apply that expertise in those scenarios. Then we would not be limited to content authors but could truely expand into profiles for everyone in an organization with some indication of expertise.

   Example - I may be a doctor specializing and publishing in the subject area of pediatric medicine. However, I am a first responder on the weekends and would be willing to list that expertise for emergencies. I also have many years of experience in federal contracting and would be willing to mentor others and serve on contract review committees.

8. Searching for Labels

   When it comes to customizing and configuring the labels (Configuration > Portal & Profiles > General Settings > Labels), we have to go through each label section one by one to search for the desired label to update. Is it possible to add a search feature to Labels, such as in Alma where we can search either by description or code name?

9. Improve functionality of the Areas of Interest to allow labelled headings and locking of specific serctions

   Esploro has ability to add multiple sections in the field for Area of Interest. However, when the profile is edited in the public view (Researcher portal) all the separate segments are merged into one.

   We would like the ability to further control the look and access option for the Area of Interest sections.

   For example: We currently use HTML to include headers for different sections of Researchers’ biographies, e.g. Biography, Research, Teaching.

   Ideally, we'd be able to have separate fields, with customisable labels, in the Area of Interest so that we could control which fields to display and have greater control exporting their fields in an API.

   If the Area of Interest had a Title and Description for each Area of Interest, we could then choose only specific Areas of Interest that could be updated by a researcher and what required updating in the back end. These would then be displayed profile. As distinct fields, these could also be selected to be called by an API. A Researcher could then edit the description field in via their researcher profile page. With each area of interest having its own edit box.

   The business case here is that our Marketing department would like to call the Biography from Esploro to use on our website. However, as the information entered in to the Area of Interest field is entirely open for the researcher to edit, they would like us to lock the editing of this whole field so we can ensure all Biography statements are edited.

   Ideally we would like to be able to lock the first Area of Interest, which we would label Biography, so that this can be the polished statement from Marketing which we could then call via an API to display on our website. But subsequent Area of Interests (e.g. Research, Teaching) could be edited by the researcher to provide more detailed information.

   This enhancement would have a major impact, significantly improving our ability to re-use and embed Esploro data into other areas of our website.

10. Expose all User record fields on the Researcher subject area

    Currently, the User fields that are part of Researcher subject area are incomplete. I need to be able to include the campus that the researcher is associated with in my report.

    I cannot get the information out of the Researcher Subject area as it is not exposed.

    There appears to be no API or analytic subject area that all the researcher contact information, identifiers, urls (image and profile), keywords, affiliations, assets etc is available from.

    I would like to see all the user fields included on the researcher subject area.

    The use case is to be able to use the information from the profiles to generate a web-based search to find a supervisor. This search takes the information from the profile and inserts it into a results list that then links through to the profile. The researcher API is missing the researcher engagement types fields and I have used the analytic API instead but the subject are doesn't contain the link to the researcher image or the campus the researcher is associated with from the user record. Very frustrating. As I have requested before that ALL fields be exposed by the API and analytics.

12. Allow customers to modify the frequency of the usage statistics letter

    Currently, the usage statistics letter can only be sent monthly. Some researchers find this schedule too aggressive (especially considering asset usage doesn't typically change dramatically from month to month). Many of these researchers tend to unsubscribe as a result. However, some have suggested they would be more open to receiving these notifications is they were less frequent. We suggest Ex Libris consider giving customers the option to modify the frequency of this letter (i.e., quarterly or annually).

    Ideally, it would be great if researchers themselves could manage their notification preferences (including frequency) from their researcher profile. See related enhancement request:

13. Researcher to choose which email display in their profile

    Some of our Researcher records have multiple email addresses, whether by manual entry or from external data.

    Example: Amanda has recently married, changed surnames and has a new email address (both her old and new emails are active work emails).

    Amanda only wishes to use her new email with her married surname, so this email is set to be the preferred email address in her User record.
    Amanda only wants to display her new email on her Researcher profile, however both her old and new emails are being displayed, as they are both email Type: Work and we have configured for Work emails to display on profiles.

    This is inadequate for Amanda, as she would only like to display her Preferred email.

    Could you consider a new configuration option to only display the Preferred email, regardless of the email type?

    Ultimately we would like our researchers to have the ability to select whether to hide or display, and set preference to which email address is displayed in their profile.

14. Allow files to be organized in folders

    When uploading files, there is no option to put them in folders or maintain the original folder structure. We have a user who has sorted his data by year and the only way to maintain that structure was to create separate assets for each year. They are closely related datasets.

15. Controlled vocabularies and metadata field limits

    To aid in the discovery of both researchers and assets, it would be great if the following functionality were available:

    1. Ability to limit keywords/research topics at the researcher level
    2. Ability to limit the length of the describe your research section of the profile
    3. Availability of more controlled vocabularies - preferably not LCSH, but a blend of subject-specific vocabularies (MeSH, Inspec, MLA, etc. -- maybe even the controlled vocabularies from the old CSA indexes given how good they are for the social sciences)
    4. Ability to limit keywords to just items from controlled vocabularies

    We had an extensive discussion today with a consultant working with our Provost on bibliometrics, and it was indicated that these actions would go a long way toward discoverability of our people and scholarship.

    To aid in the discovery of both researchers and assets, it would be great if the following functionality were available:

    1. Ability to limit keywords/research topics at the researcher level

18. Add option to easily export internal organization structure to spreadsheet

    We would like to be able to export a file which includes:
    Top level unit | 2nd level unit | 3rd level unit | etc for all levels
    For example:
    Weizmann Institute | Chemistry Faculty | Organic Chemistry Department
    Weizmann Institute | Chemistry Faculty | Materials and Interfaces Department
    Weizmann Institute | Biochemistry Faculty | Molecular Cell Biology Department
    We managed to create such a report using the ‘Esploro Research Assets’ subject area – but this report includes only departments and faculties for which we have assets. If there are departments for which we do not have assets, they will not appear in this report.
    This will allow us to extract a more accurate report.

19. Citation only display on profile brief results

    Currently, the citation display on the Researcher Profiles includes the first several lines of the abstract. We would like to list via citation only and exclude the abstract from the brief results. This can be done in the portal but is not available from the profiles assets display. We feel that this would look tidier and reduce the need to scroll down the page as much.

20. Display Esploro Asset Creation Date in Portal

    I received the business/use case below from Carla Cher, the Manager, Intellectual Property and Commercialisation here at RMIT University for displaying the record creation date in a publicly available asset record on the portal.

    Carla wrote, "this is extremely important information because our team needs to know the date something is published as this may have an effect on whether we can apply for a patent or not for particular areas of technology.  In addition, patent offices will search the database for the thesis when examining a patent application and may reject an application because they consider the date it was published is the date listed on the thesis, as they can only see the date of the thesis, not the date it was actually published."

    Our previous repository software automatically displayed the asset record creation date on all records and served the needs of our IP and Commercialisation group, amongst other users (including repository staff and researchers) very well.
