← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

    "Saishin Kango Sakuin Web (Latest Nursing Index)" is a bibliographic database specializing in nursing bibliographies, and is widely used by institutions in Japan.
    The database is provided by the Japan Medical Abstracts Association, whose database, Medical Journal Web, is already indexed by CDI.

  5. New Provider/Collection: SSRN (Social Science Research Network)

    Provider: Elsevier

    Recommend addition to CDI.

    Please consider this as a new resource from a "new" provider, as SSRN has a long history prior to its acquisition by Elsevier a handful of years ago. It would be great to improve discoverability of the 1.2 million items in this repository, while enhancing the presence of OA and preprint content to Primo and Summon users.

  6. Enhancing searchability through original script support for non-latin data

    Hi,
    currently, the CZ-data in other than latin scripts is often transliterated using the ALA transliteration rules. However, these rules are not used in all regions of the world. This issue concerns mainly the title and authors. Ultimately, the different transliterations make the search for this data very difficult.

    We suggest that the CZ-data in other than latin scripts should contain the original script as well as the transliteration. If ExLibris could introduce the original script in a linked field 880 as the standard for non-Latin scripts in the CZ, this would be a big advantage for us in the…

    This is an open access, comprehensive website for scientific and technical information with 10 types of information, such as articles, researchers, patents, etc. It’s an essential online service for Japanese scientists. This collection is available in alma CZ (Collection ID: 6114032540000041), but adding this to the CDI will make it more convenient for users.

  10. Perlego: Map regional indicators or create regional collections for KBs

    The current Perlego collection (YSPEL in 360KB) contains some titles that are not available in certain regions (including the United States). This results in CDI or 360 MARC Updates records for titles our students are not able to access, causing frustration and confusion.

    If there are geographical area indicators in the Perlego metadata that relate to where titles are (or are not) available, those indicators should get mapped in discovery so that only available titles are shown based on the customer location.

    The Zhonghua Classics Database contains the standard punctuated versions of many important Chinese classical texts in the fields of philosophy, history and literature (such as biji) as published by Zhonghua Shuju and other major publishers of punctuated editions. The database also includes the 360 volume Quan Song Wen《全宋文》set as e-books. Quan Song Wen is a collection of Chinese prose dating from the Song dynasty that was first published in 2006 by 上海辭書出版社.

  19. Add Pressbooks Directory records to the CKB as a portfolio collection

    Previously the Pressbooks Directory was added to the CDI: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/574345-content/suggestions/42757319-ners-2021-pressbooks-directory

    That idea includes many community comments around a desire for a CKB collection instead, with significant benefits to this, such as adding metadata for discovery and to support OER initiatives by the library.

    There is good news starting in August, as Pressbooks has added an OPDS feed to their environment:

    Please consider adding the online publication KL Hatke to the community zone. KL Hatke is a media platform that produces articles written by women in rural India. The content is mainly articles. It would be great to have this added as a portfolio or database so that the CDI might create article records for discovery.
