← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

How can we improve Content?

  1. Collection request - LWW Total Access Collection - Archive through 2020

    We recently purchased an archive journal collection from Ovid coded LTOT-20-A24 - LWW Total Access Collection - Archive through 2020. There does not appear to be a collection corresponding to it in the Community Zone - we would appreciate if it was added to the CZ! I'm attaching a title and coverage list.

    Hello,

    We will reach out to Ovid, and ask for the metadata for this collection.

    We do not rely on title lists provided by libraries, as this approach does not support an automated update process and would make it difficult to maintain the collection over time.

  2. Add a Dedicated CDI Content Type for Master's Theses

    Problem

    The Central Discovery Index (CDI) currently distinguishes only between Thesis and Dissertation. As a result, Master's theses are typically grouped under the generic Thesis content type, making it impossible for libraries and end users to distinguish them from other types of theses.
    Many academic institutions maintain separate collections for Master's theses and doctoral dissertations, and their repositories already include metadata that identifies the degree level. However, this distinction is lost during CDI indexing.

    Suggested Enhancement

  6. Either exclude front matter journal content or create new resource type for front matter

    In CDI: there are records for the front matter (e.g. title page or copyright page) of some journal issues. And they appear with the "article" resource type, which is very misleading for our patrons. ExLibris Support says there is no available resource type for front matter, so they just get presented as articles.

    My idea is for ExLibris to either filter out the front matter content from CDI (my preference) or create a different resource type for them.

    Hello,

    Oxford announced they are moving to an "all titles" collection model so they will not provide us with annual title lists.

    The collection will be calledOxford University Press Law Trove Complete Collection", and we will receive the title list in December.

    Please add a Docuseek ALL titles collection to the KBs that includes ALL titles hosted on the Docuseek platform, regardless of geographic regions, including partner titles such as GoodDocs and Pravda which are not included in many of their standard collections.

    The use case for this collection is for libraries that purchase individual titles outside of a collection.

  17. Add AIAA Conference Proceedings collections by year. Improve portfolios to include conference year and number

    AIAA only provides access to proceedings for the years subscribed. The AIAA Conference Proceedings collection has over 1200 portfolios. Many portfolios do not indicate the year of the conference or the conference number making it impossible to know which of the 1200 portfolios to activate. I asking Clarivate to work with the publisher to improve the portfolios to include the conference year and number. In addition, work with AIAA to provide collections by year so we are able to activate the content we are subscribed to. Right now it is impossible to activate all of the entitled portfolios.
