← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

How can we improve Content?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Either exclude front matter journal content or create new resource type for front matter

    In CDI: there are records for the front matter (e.g. title page or copyright page) of some journal issues. And they appear with the "article" resource type, which is very misleading for our patrons. ExLibris Support says there is no available resource type for front matter, so they just get presented as articles.

    My idea is for ExLibris to either filter out the front matter content from CDI (my preference) or create a different resource type for them.

  4. BoardGameGeek data

    BoardGameGeek is a repository of all board games and many video games (this section is slowly growing) that have been published and released, and many of these are available in many of our libraries. This site has cover images, details about publication dates, etc, and sometimes even instruction manuals.

  8. Add a Dedicated CDI Content Type for Master's Theses

    Problem

    The Central Discovery Index (CDI) currently distinguishes only between Thesis and Dissertation. As a result, Master's theses are typically grouped under the generic Thesis content type, making it impossible for libraries and end users to distinguish them from other types of theses.
    Many academic institutions maintain separate collections for Master's theses and doctoral dissertations, and their repositories already include metadata that identifies the degree level. However, this distinction is lost during CDI indexing.

    Suggested Enhancement

  9. Collection request - LWW Total Access Collection - Archive through 2020

    We recently purchased an archive journal collection from Ovid coded LTOT-20-A24 - LWW Total Access Collection - Archive through 2020. There does not appear to be a collection corresponding to it in the Community Zone - we would appreciate if it was added to the CZ! I'm attaching a title and coverage list.

    We do not rely on title lists provided by libraries, as this approach does not support an automated update process and would make it difficult to maintain the collection over time.

    Could you please add newer IGI open access collections to the knowledge bases? OR add non-annual collections for OA journals and books? In the CZ their latest OA journal collection is from 2023 and their latest OA ebook collection is from 2024. Thank you!

    CDI has the records of Provider: Japan Science and Technology Agency.
    The publisher has a pre-print server and provides the records as the database "Jxiv".
    Could you please negotiate with the provider and ask them to index the preprint records into CDI?

  16. Add EBSCO Magazine Archives to KB for art titles

    Please add three EBSCO Magazine art backfile titles:

    Art in American Magazine Archive - Database Code: aaa
    ARTNews Magazine Archive - Database Code: ana
    The Magazine Antiques Archive - Database Code: maa

    While they are also present in the KB under the electronic collection "Art Magazine Collection Archives", they are now being sold by EBSCO as standalone titles with different database codes.

    Can you add the e-collection: Bloomsbury Food Library: Core Collection to the CZ? The current e-collection in the Alma CZ is entitled, "Bloomsbury Food Library: Core Collection - Annual Update 2025" and contains only 15 portfolios. The Core Collections contains 462 portfolios.     If you filter by collection title in the spreadsheet there is nothing named, "Core Collection" or "Bloomsbury Food Library: Core Collection," there is just "Bloomsbury Food Library" and it has more than 15 portfolios. This link is what was provided…
