How can we improve Summon?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Add ability to share via SMS items in "Saved Items" folders

    Please add the ability to share via SMS items saved to "Saved Items" folders, (either temporary or permanent folders). Right now it seems we are limited to using Print and Email. SMS would be helpful for quick transactions, and finding items in the physical collection.

  3. Add links to OA version in the citation record

    In the citation record, please add links to the OA version or make possible to add widgets for alternative searches. Ex: Google Scholar, OA button https://openaccessbutton.org/ , EmbedOA https://openaccessbutton.org/embedoa etc

  4. I would like Summon to have the functionality to connect to Endnote via Z39.50 allowing users to search all our resources.

    I would like Summon to have the functionality to connect to Endnote via Z39.50 allowing users to search all our resources. Currently, we can only set up a connection to our Voyager catalog in EndNote, and our Voyager catalog does not have records for all the journals and databases we subscribe to.

  6. Idea for changing the results of the 360 API's calling to sort of order to the most recent first .

    As the reaction to the release on 3rd Nov 2021 which has been provided on EJP, I'm suggesting of changing the results of the 360 API's calling to sort of order to the most recent

    Because it become more usable if the platform which using this 360 API could display the databases with the most recent coverage first.

  7. Add an option to limit "Print resource"

    Summon has the refinement to filter the results to print books. We need an option to limit "Print resource" (not only book, but also, print journals, microfilms ...).
    Especially, Print journal is important for the customer Summon over Alma, since former ILS had it.

  8. allow more content types to link out to resource from catalogue

    It would be great if catalogue records, which contains an 856, could link directly to the resource from Summon. At present this can only be done if the record is an eBook, eJournal or a Journal.
    Linking back to the catalogue record isn't an ideal scenario for the end user when all they wnat is to get to the online resource.

  9. Search within Summon Admin Console

    The list of features available in the Summon Admin Console has grown large and it can be difficult to find the setting you are looking for. It would be helpful to have a search bar in the navigation bar on the left that searches all the pages and can help locate the desired setting.

  10. Revise display logic so that collection names do not display as corporate authors

    Based on the MARC 21 standards, collection names are in the 710 field. For example:

    710 2 Alumni Ph.D./Th.D. Collection (Princeton Theological Seminary)

    As in https://catalog.ptsem.edu/record=b3319515~S1

    This is a typical way that most libraries handle their collection names. However, the current Summon mapping and display rules result in the collection name appearing as the author in the search results when there is not a main author for the work: https://go.exlibris.link/DZxpskWX

  11. multi-site support

    We are based on 2 physical sites but due to subscription costs and specialisms of some resources, a number of our e-journals are restricted to one site. (the majority are now 2-site licences) - we have included all of them in summmon. Currently these resources show in the Summon search results but users on the other site just get dead links. We would like to be able to record these when we select them for the knowledgebase so users from the non-subscribing site just get a message saying to contact the library whilst users from the subscribing site get full…

  13. DB recommender - html formatting

    We would like to be able to apply HTML formatting in the "database's description" field.
    For the moment, it doesn't recognise the tags unlike the public database note field.
    Furthermore, we would like to see the "public database note" displayed in the Database recommender.

  14. Do not allow Book Chapter and Journal Article records to match and merge with each other

    When the Book Chapter facet is applied, in multiple searches the majority of top results listed appear as Journal Article format. My understanding is that this is because Journal Articles an Book Chapters are allowed to match and merge, specifically in order to allow merging of serial monographs. However, many of the top results do not appear to be serial monographs, but actual journal articles. This is confusing for users, and the merges may be causing more frustration than good.

  15. Content Ingestion report - internal processing error

    I think it would be useful if the record ID was included in this report so that we know which records are missing from summon.
    At present this just seems like a black box; we have no idea what the problem is, how it is resolved and when/if it is resolved.

  16. Import LibAnswers by college in shared group systems

    Springshare's LibAnswers FAQs can be imported into Summon, but not for individual libraries in Springshare "shared group systems." In our case, the API url provided for the entire system is https://maricopa.libanswers.com/api/1.1 while the url for my college is https://maricopa.libanswers.com/api/1.1/faqs?iid=2299. The only API url recognized in Summon is the one that ends in 1.1 - for the entire system. This enhancement request is for Summon to allow existing API parameters to pull in LibAnswers FAQs by group.   17. Include a "Library" facet and a "Location" facet

    For Summon institutions with multiple libraries, it would be useful to include facets for library locations and collection type locations.

    For example, users could filter by the library building using the "Library" facet, and also filter by collection type (ex. Stacks, Reference, Reserves) by using the "Location" facet.

    Currently with the "Library Location" facet, library buildings and collection locations are listed here and connected only with "OR". By separating them into their own facets, we can utilize the "AND" logic.

  18. Search keywords should remain after logging in to EZProxy

    When users log in to EZProxy from the authentication banner at the top of Summon,
    the keywords they were searching just before will be reset, so users will need to enter the keywords again.
    It would be convenient for them if the search keywords were inherited even after logging in to EZProxy.

  19. fuzzy keyword search in the E-Journal Portal (AZ List)

    Our patrons do not always know the exact name or spelling of a journal or how to use an asterisk.

    We think the E-Journal Portal search box should support fuzzy keyword searching.
