Provide the ability to separate books and ebooks when searching.
Currently, we cannot search print books only. We can separate ebooks/books if we want ebooks only be either selecting the full text limiter or the electronic books subject limiter. However, we can't do the same for print (hard copy books).

Add 'date last updated' to database details
In the Data Management section of Serials Solutions, it would be useful if the database details screen displayed when the metadata was last updated for each database. This could be accomplished by having a 'date last updated' field in the database details screen.
This would be helpful for finding out how current the database's included titles, URLs, etc. are in the knowledgebase.

Exclude Newspaper Articles and Book Reviews in default basic search
The ability to configure the exclusions of either newspaper articles, book reviews or both from the default search for an institution. Any search conducted would begin with these excluded, and the user could turn off these filters via the user interface.

Display all 5xx note fields as the default in Summon
Make display of all 5xx note fields the default in Summon in the Catalog Detail page, results screen and elsewhere. These fields already appear in Primo, with various labels (General note for 500, Language note for 546, Awards note for 586, Bibliography for 504, etc.). With these omitted from Summon, patrons are missing vital, helpful information from bibliographic records, such as: accessibility features for patrons with disabilities (532, 546); detailed language information--not just the languages themselves, but whether they’re for subtitles, described video, certain articles in anthologies, etc. (546); awards won for picture books, Academy Award winning movies, etc. (586);…

Make "Best Bets" show up when tag keywords are present in search, not just when there's an exact match
Right now, Best Bets show up when there's an exact match on tags, e.g., our job search assistance information shows up when someone searches "jobs" or "job search," etc., but not when someone searches "how can i look for jobs," etc. (unless we anticipate every situation where that tag word might be used). Could the Best Bets be brought up whenever keywords are present in the search, not just when there's an exact match?

Add Unpaywall database to the Summon index
Unpaywall is a service which harvests Open Access content directly from over 50,000 repositories. It's rapidly becoming the leading source of information about legal OA content across the web.
Unpaywall offer a 'database snapshot', a complete dump of everything we know about every Open Access DOI that exists.
I think it would be a great idea for Summon to incorporate this data in its index. It would allow a much greater level of direct linking to Open Access content for all Summon users.
(It's already possible to integrate Unpaywall's API with 360link for individual, article-by-article requests.)
164 votesLinks directly to PDFs from Unpaywall are included in the November 2019 quarterly release. In 2020 we will expand on this functionality to include facet support and reporting.

Allow facet for "Online" (electronic) vs "In the Library" (physical)
A simple facet that helps users distinguish between electronic materials online and physical materials in the library.
Using the current "Refine your Search" facet for this purpose feels problematic: "Full text online" feels jargony in our context and also isn't intuitive that it would include non-textual electronic resources such as streaming audio and video, while "Library Catalog" feels similarly jargony and includes electronic records that exist in our catalog. This facet also includes other options that are valuable, but in the facet I am proposing simplicity in having only those two options would be ideal.146 votesIncluded in the May 2021 release, with an update in the June 2021 maintenance release. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can activate the facets (Physical Book Processing) in your Summon site, then preview the results on your preview site after a search index update (usually within 7 days).

export search results
It would be helpful if users could export an entire set of search results without first having to send them to the folder one by one. If it's too complicated to engineer a way to "select all" with any quantity of results, perhaps just being able to "select and export all" when there are fewer than 100 results would be of some use.

Add search history and allow searching with sets from the search history
Filter options and relevance ranking is one way to search, explore and discover, but it has limitations. To combine previous searches is standard in all kind of bibliographic and full text databases and would be a true enhancement. Most professional information specialists lack confident in search systems that only rely on filter and relevance ranking. Give us boolean search using sets from the search history!

Facets usage - request to view 'excludes' as well as 'includes'
A while back I was looking at our facet usage stats for 2017 to date, and I noticed that although we have Newspaper Articles excluded from searches by default, this facet has the highest amount of 'uses'. I asked Ex-Libris Support if this was because every search a user runs is, by default, including the exclusion of Newspapers as a facet use. I also asked if there was a way to get stats on the number of people who remove the exclusion of newspaper articles after running their first search.
For an example, this was our top-used facet at the…

Making available a list of the resources indexed in Summon Index
It would be great to have an up-to-date list of what is in the Summon Index. Or have a new column in the Center Center for each database, indicating if it is in the Index or not.
Today, when we select a database as "subscribed" in the Client Center, we are not sure whether this database is in the Summon Index or not. So we have to check in Summon by clicking "Add results beyond your library's collection" and see what shows up in the results. This is tedious.106 votesIn the November release we added a column into the Client Center that shows what’s indexed.

Displaying all links available in Summon results page
We would like to suggest ExLibris to enhance in Summon results page by displaying all fulltext links subscribed in the knowledgebase. Having only one fulltext link available when there are multiple sources available to choose from can help maximize the use of the library’s resources and most important offer users a solution when the 1st link presented doesn’t work. EJP is already doing this.
It’s kind of a problem also. The situation happened this week when the Proquest research platform was experiencing connectivity issue and performed a temporary maintenance. Because Proquest fulltext links are direct linking, the user was not…

Integrate LibGuides Database A-Z list into Summon search
We add all our databases and library resources as Best Bets so that users can find them when they search Summon. This doesn't work particularly well as the Best Bets search and display functionality is minimal.
We also maintain a complete Database A-Z list in LibGuides. It would save staff time and provide a better user experience if these could be indexed in Summon using the LibGuides API (as our LibGuides are indexed in Summon), instead of relying on Best Bets which isn't suited to this task.

Ability to remove the long URL when exporting from Summon to RefWorks
When bibliographic data is exported from Summon into RefWorks the Summon link is included.
Is it possible to not include this link for books specifically?
Or to have an option to exclude the link.Currently they look like this: and as you can imagine this does not look good in a bibliography (We have to tell students to remove the links, which is far from ideal)

Add the option to force Summon to load over https
In October, Google Chrome release 62 will begin labeling any website loaded over http and containing a form (i.e. every library webpage ever) as "Not Secure." You can read more about that here: https://security.googleblog.com/2017/04/next-steps-toward-more-connection.html
We currently have all our links to and search forms use HTTPS to access Summon, but we can't force all our users onto HTTPS. Since the *.summon.serialssolutions.com wildcard certificate covers every instance of Summon, why not add an option to force all Summon connections to use HTTPS? (Or just make it the default.)
While you're at it, why not add your exlibrisgroup wildcard certificate to your…

360 Core "Automated Holdings Management" currently supports the ProQuest Ebooks providers only. This feed greatly reduces the amount of work
360 Core "Automated Holdings Management" currently supports the ProQuest Ebooks providers only.
This feed greatly reduces the amount of work to maintain ebook holdings by the librarians.
It would be great if you could add the same feeds for Elsevier, Springer and EBSCO ebooks.93 votesSupport for KBART automating holdings exchange is implemented. As of May 2024 we have added Taylor & Francis and Springer integrations. More providers will be added going forward.

Create an LTI for Summon so that it can be integrated into LMS (Canvas or others).
We want to integrate Summon into our Learning Management Ssystem (LMS) which is Canvas. The easiest way to do this is if we use an existing library service that has an LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability').
Libraries who add search option are using some kind of library LTI product. That's the only way to add something in the sidebar of a Canvas course. Our ILS/catalog does not off an LTI application for connecting it to an LMS. It would be a great improvement if Summon offered an LTI.

Summon results not displaying custom coverage dates
On Summon results, show custom coverage dates next to links so researchers know what they should have access to before clicking on an e-Resource. The EJP seems to do this. Without this feature this is causing much frustration and confusion for users.

Link to all full-text options from within Summon results, alongside 1-click
Given the new issues with framed resources and the sidebar, I'd like to suggest the option to add a link to all full-text sources for a given article directly within the Summon results. That way, even with the sidebar turned off, users can still find alternative sources of full-text if the "top" source from 1-click doesn't work as expected.
