Ability to add Google Tag Manager information instead of Google Analytics
Google Tag Manager is a Google Analytics toolf ro managing multiple tags for a single page or site. The ability to add the Google Tag Manager to the institution's site via the admin console.
38 votesCompleted as part of the 2023 Summon Roadmap.
Summon now has both Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager support.

Results Beyond Your Library's Collection
Add "Results Beyond Your Library's Collection" as a filter to the "Refine Your Search" Area.
4 votesCompleted as part of the facet improvements in December 2021.

Add Chicago Notes-Bibliography Style as an option for the citation generator.
Chicago Notes-Bibliography (NB) style is the preferred citation style for historians, but Chicago Author-Date is the only option available in the automatic citation generator in Summon. As the formats are noticeably different, it would be useful to have both options available for users to choose from.
5 votesCustom citations are now available in Summon as part of the August 2022 release. This citation style should be available. If it is not, or if any citation style does not meet your criteria, you can create your own.

Add autocomplete to search widget
The widget should make suggestions for words and phrases as the user types into the search box. This should be the same functionality as is present on the default Summon search box.

Add visibilty of local notes to item detail view
Many libraries add additional notes to MARC records to enhance the findability of items and relevance of search results (e.g., a ToC or chapter listing when not already part of the record). Make these visable to the user.
12 votesThis functionality has been added. To turn on public notes, go to the Admin Console under Settings > Search Results. At the bottom, there are options to “Display eResource Public Notes” and “Display eResource Location Notes”. Change the setting from Default to Custom and set the option to Yes, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Improve handling of duplicates with common titles
Currently, Summon prevents certain common titles from participating in the match & merge process if they are on the "Bad titles" list or the reach a certain count in the "Overmatch" algorithm. This process should be improved so that "real" titles are allowed to merge.
1 voteWe revised the match and merge rules around Overmatch as part of the upgrade to CDI. Hopefully this cleared up some of these issues. Please enter a new idea if there are specifics you’d still like to see included.

In search results, make the journal title a link that takes you to a "Search Within the Journal" search page
This would be similar to clicking on the author name to find additional articles by that author, but with the added "search within" capability.

Relevancy rankings
Change relevancy rankings to push articles above books and e-books (or at least not favor books). Most Summon users want articles more than books.
1 voteWe have made adjustments to the boosts for articles vs books and e-books. If this is still an issue, if you could provide some examples, that would help.

Making available a list of the resources indexed in Summon Index
It would be great to have an up-to-date list of what is in the Summon Index. Or have a new column in the Center Center for each database, indicating if it is in the Index or not.
Today, when we select a database as "subscribed" in the Client Center, we are not sure whether this database is in the Summon Index or not. So we have to check in Summon by clicking "Add results beyond your library's collection" and see what shows up in the results. This is tedious.106 votesIn the November release we added a column into the Client Center that shows what’s indexed.

Stop match and merge for client catalog records.
We suggest a fully supported, optional, product feature to stop match and merge for client catalog records.
In the result list of Summon where there are several links to resources, the titles are linked to only one resource, which most of the time is good. However when a print record from the local catalog is merged with an e-book, the link most often lead to the e-book and we have noticed that the print version of the book is very often not noticed by the user. Our library have no e-books in our local catalog so we would very much…
19 votesYou can now stop match and merge for your catalog records. In the Summon Admin Console, under Content Ingestion > Catalog Merge Settings, simply drag and drop your catalog from the Include column to the Exclude column. If you have used this feature and have feedback, please send it to us!

Create a method for searching an exact word which does not apply corrected spelling
Create a method for searching an exact word which does not apply corrected spelling. Sometimes there are specific words that are not "normal" spelling which get change to variants and the term you are looking for disappears within a sea of results.
e.g. frocta - a latin word gets changed to frota
and you get 18,000 results - none of them the word we searched upon.
6 votesThis is a bug; the feature should search on the word as you type it and provide a link to search results with the suggested corrected spelling. Are there other examples where this is occurring?
-
Add search history and allow searching with sets from the search history
Filter options and relevance ranking is one way to search, explore and discover, but it has limitations. To combine previous searches is standard in all kind of bibliographic and full text databases and would be a true enhancement. Most professional information specialists lack confident in search systems that only rely on filter and relevance ranking. Give us boolean search using sets from the search history!

Make Scopus citations live links or change to make clear not live like WoS
We have both Scopus and Web of Science. In Summon the WoS links are live but Scopus is simply a number. However, as they both look the same this leads to users thinking Scopus is not working properly. Can we either have a live link to Scopus or some change in the design to make it clear the Scopus link is nothing more than a number?

Provide an obvious way to return to search results from Saved Items folder
Currently, in the Saved Items folder, the only way to return to the Summon search results is by clicking on an unmarked X on the right-hand side of the screen. This is confusing to users because there are so many other Xs on the page which remove or clear saved items.
We suggest providing an obvious way to return to the search results from the Saved Items folder. This may be accomplished by making the browser’s “back” button work or by adding a “Return to Results” link.
26 votesWe added a large label to the X that says “Back to Search Results.” If you prefer a different label, you can change this in the “translations” section of the admin console.

Make facets user friendly
We would like the facets in Summon to work more in the way they do in Primo. In Primo the included or excluded facets are shown above the search results in little boxes with an easy to understand cross to remove them. Similar solutions are used on several database platforms, so our users would recognize how to use the feature without thinking too much.
In Summon it’s not intuitive to remove a chosen facet. If you have included a facet and want to remove it and you hoover over the text, you are tempted to click on the red dot…
19 votesWe have released a revision of facet behavior, including removing the hover to include and exclude and providing a better way to select either include or exclude.

Fix the date issue when searching books.
Currently, if you search for books within a time frame, e.g. last five years, you will also get books that were published outside the date range, e.g. 1980. This is a serious problem for students needing to be current, yet having to sift through older material to find newer material. This is not an issue with journal articles.
12 votesCompleted as part of the July 2017 release. We improved our match and merge process to resolve this issue.

Don't limit search results to 200 items
Don't limit search results to 200 items. Many students use Summon as part of their literature review strategy to gather information for dissertations. Removing the limit of only 200 results being returned would allow users to get a far more accurate picture of what is available to them from the literature they are reviewing.
39 votesAs of the July 2017 release you can now review up to the first 1,000 results. To do this you will need to configure the number of results retrieved at a time from 10 to 25.
We maintain a limit at 1,000 to prevent crawlers from scraping content or overloading the system with traffic.

Bring back the "preview" visible on hovering over the title
Our users really miss being able to see the preview in the right-hand pane when they hover over the title in their search results. Please bring it back, or last make this optional!
25 votesAs part of the July 2017 release, we added the ability to hover over the preview link or icon to activate the preview pane below the result.
