  1. Preferred language set for both Alma and Leganto

Leganto is a patron-facing system and is translated to several different languages. Alma is a back-office system for librarians and are not translated as such.

In Leganto you can select the interface language. This changes the preferred language setting on the user-profile in Alma as well. We can see the change in the history-tab on the user-profile.

The issue is that if the language is set to a language other than english, parts of Alma displays translated values (I assume values that are used in patron facing elements) while other parts are not translated. E.g. a mix of Norwegian and…

  2. Allow students to access 'Course students' restricted lists via 'My Lists'

If you use the "Course Students" publication status for a reading list, students must always use an LTI link from a VLE to view the list. This means students can't access all their lists from one place ("My Lists") which isn't good for the student experience.

We would like there to be a way for students to only have to access the list via LTI once (if at all), after which they can access it from "My Lists".

  3. Enable OCRed PDF documents search in all languages

when using OCRed PDF document in non English language i.e Hebrew, word search for active learning doesn't work.
enabling the search will help instructors and students to achieve better learning.

  4. Add ability to sort/filter citations by date created/modified in Leganto

In Alma we can sort and filter citations on a reading list by date but it isn't currently possible to do this in Leganto.

We only check new citations on reading lists when reviewing, and use the Leganto interface to do our checks. This means staff have to sort and filter the list in Alma and then click "View in Leganto" one at a time, which isn’t an efficient use of staff time and can be frustrating on long lists with many new citations.

We would like the option to view the citations on a list by date last modified…

  5. Improving the in-list searching in Leganto

When searching for a specific citation in Leganto, there are instances where no results are returned. We recently noticed this happening if the search is mis-spelled, shortened or if a special character is used. This happens even if the special character is in the title of the item.
It appears to be a very specific search, almost working like a Ctrl+F function rather than being flexible. We use the in-list search function a lot, so it would be great if this could be more flexible to allow for these types of instances.

  6. Visualización del tipo de documento en Leganto

Nos gustaría que en la lista de lectura de leganto el tipo de material (Libro, WWW, Artículo...) apareciera en una línea solo y el título del documento se visualice en línea aparte. Así se tendría una visión mejor del tipo de documento y la cita en sí misma.

  7. Able to configure which citation statuses should be considered as equivalent to Complete

In Leganto it is possible to create custom citation statuses.

One such custom status we have created is 'Complete - no eBook available' which we use to signify to academic staff that a citation has been processed by the library but that it has not been possible to purchase an item electronically. For all intents and purpose this status is equivalent to Complete, but provides additional information.

It would be preferable if we were able to configure Leganto to define which statuses should be considered as Complete. This would be useful, for example, when filtering citations in Alma, where there…

  8. Reading list comments - alerts removed if comments are deleted

We receive notification when a comment has been made to a reading list, in both Alma in the Recent Changes tab and in the Reading List Notification (bell).
However, if the comment is subsequently deleted by the student or instructor no notification is given. We have wasted time searching for comments that do not exist. It would be great to know a comment has been deleted.

  9. Allow Leganto to display different general messages to different user groups

Leganto February 2021 release included an Ideas Exchange introducing:
“Two new parameters allow you to define when and to whom the value in the general message parameter will display…The new generalmessagerole parameter allows you to specify that the value in the general_message parameter will display only for the user role indicated”

The University of New South Wales welcomes this enhancement. We believe that the ability to display a different message simultaneously in both Leganto Instructor and Student environments improves this communication functionality further.
This provides the benefit of varying the wording of messages aimed at differing target groups.

  10. Importance tags - limit to one per citation

We use importance tags to inform our purchasing, but often encounter citations which have been given multiple tags. We would find it useful to be able to configure the system to allow only one importance tag per citation.

  11. Report of instructors having opted in or out for notifications

In Leganto, instructors can opt in or out to receive email notifications on events. In order to know to what degree we can rely on these for communications (and under what circumstances we need to approach the instructor by other means) we would like to create a report in Analytics (or in Alma) to see which instructors have opted in or out.

  12. Hide resource locate on article citations

The Resource Locate function appears in Row Actions List in Alma for article citations. Articles do not need to be located, just resolved. The default behavior (when not resource located) is that the URESOLVER applies the date restrictions. Portfolios falling outside of the holdings period for that specific journal are filtered out.

However, when resource located, the citation is viewed as a journal and shows all portfolios attached to the journal's bib. record. In order to prevent this from happening, we suggest the resource locate option be hidden in Alma for this type of citation.

  13. Improve searching for citations in Leganto list view

Searching for citations in Leganto can sometimes show inaccurate and unexpected results.

For example, if someone tries to use "" to search for an exact phrase, it won't bring up results because "" isn't supported as a search operator. Or, if a book title has a )/?/-/./( in it, including that character in your search won't bring up the book. There is also no support for partial matching on words, e.g. "manage" won't bring up "management".

This causes confusion for users if they don't understand why results are being affected and can't find resources. We would like searching to be…

  14. Allow institutions to use old display of "Add items" menu

Prior to May 2021, the 'Add items' button opened 'Library Search' in the panel, with other options available in small tabs. Since May 2021, the panel shows a menu with several boxes (at Sheffield we only see three boxes).

This changed view means that getting to Library Search takes an extra click and it increases the risk that academic staff will manually enter the details instead of using Library Search. We would like 'Library Search' to be given priority.

We would like institutions to have the option to return to the previous view to encourage staff use of 'Library Search'…

  15. Enable configuration of more term code options

It would be useful for us to be able to configure more than the current maximum of 99 different term codes. We have nearly 200 different term configurations.

  16. Option to use multiple multilingual logos

In Configuration > Leganto > UI > Branding > Logo Upoad > 'Load Leganto header logo' you can upload the logo that's gonna be displayed in the Leganto header.
But only 1 logo can be uploaded.

For institutions with different logos for different languages this is rather unfortunate

Our guess is that having more than 1 logo is not an envisaged use-case (and probably a rare one, too).

Still we would really like the ability to upload multiple logos to fit all UI languages in use.

  17. Merge reading lists in Leganto

Being able to easily merge content from different list to one list - without Section text/info and notes. E.g. relevant if you want to get a complete picture of all of the literature being used a one semester/programme

  18. Increase the Loading Performance of Larger Reading Lists

We would like to be able to create reading lists with more than 100 items, but they tend to load slowly when we do. Please increase the loading performance of reading lists so that we can create larger lists without impacting usability. We would like to see at least 300 items in a list without negatively impacting performance.

  19. Enable the system to give you an alert if you suppress an item on a reading list

It would be good to know when you are suppressing an item that is on a reading list so you know either not to suppress it or replace it with another copy if one is lost or missing. Similar to when you withdraw or delete an item

  20. Add ability to filter citations with files attached in reading list view

When searching citations in Alma, one of the facets available is "File", with the options "File attached" / "File not attached". However, when viewing a reading list, this option doesn't seem to be available.

This would be useful to us to quickly identify citations on a reading list which have an attached file, for example when checking copyright for digitisations.
