  1. Provide an option for users to see all items in an electronic collection

Alma allows us to make the bib record for an electronic collection like Wiley e-Books viewable by customers in Primo. We would like the contents of the electronic collection to be displayed when the user clicks on the electronic collection name in Primo.

  2. Author/Subjects that include dates

Some authors have the same names so we want to include the date field ($d) in the search when users click on their links within full records. However, we have learned that Ex Libris has hard-coded a facet search into the $$Q, thereby killing this option because you get 0 results (since the facet search includes the date). This is currently not configurable, but is a huge problem for us. Here is an example:
    https://catalog.library.vanderbilt.edu/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991043557451103276&context=L&vid=01VAN_INST:vanui&lang=en&search_scope=MyInst_and_CI&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=Everything&query=any,contains,Harry%20Potter&offset=0

Click on the creator "Potter, Harry, 1954- author."

Gives 0 results, with a facet of "Potter, Harry, 1954-"

Remove the facet and it automatically conducts…

  3. Saved search for search term not found in index

Occasionally there is a search term which is new and has not been indexed yet (such as a new species name like Rhenopyrgus viviani). At present we just see just see a 'no records found' message - it would be useful to create a saved search to pick up when this term appears in the literature.

  4. Add display field Contributor to Fields boosting in Primo VE

Fields boosting in Primo VE has not an option for Fields boosting of display field Contributor. The default rule for Contributor is including 700, 710, 711. As an example, that means if you boost the creator field for a book with three authors the second and third author in field 700 will not get boosted, just the first author in 100.

  5. Primo VE: Approve/Reject user created tags before adding to display

We want to enable user created tags in Primo VE, however, we need the ability to screen tags BEFORE they get displayed. Currently, tags are on display as soon as they are added.

Ideally, users would "Suggest a Tag" which is initially in a 'hidden' status. At the Manage Tags screen, there would be a checkbox or toggle switch to Approve or Reject each tag.

  6. Flexible Permanent URL for Retrieving New Books in Primo

I'm interested in having a permanent URL that retrieves new books added to the library in the last two months through Primo. I would appreciate it if you could create a way to build a URL that allows to retrieve new books added to the library with a flexible date range (such as last 2 months, last 5 months, etc.). Thank you

  7. Ability to place restrictions on Display Source Record link

When enabling the ‘display source record’ link in Primo VE it would be useful to be able to specify which types of records the link displays or doesn’t display for. In our case we would prefer to restrict the option to our records for published resources so the private notes more typically associated with unpublished material such as manuscripts would not be publicly viewable.

  8. Exclude suppressed records from browse results

Currently, records that are suppressed from discovery still appear in users' browse search results. As explained in the documentation below:

"If a heading contains suppressed or restricted records:
    - These records will be included in the heading's record count.
    - When a user selects the heading, these records will be omitted from the results, and the system will display the following message: Some records are not displayed since they are restricted / suppressed from display"

We expect that records suppressed from discovery should be suppressed everywhere, including browse. We strongly suggest Ex Libris implement a fix to consider the…

  9. Reconvigure Search Algorithm to Highlight Subscription Databases

Some change in the Primo search algorithm now shows free sources, such as DOAJ, as not only the best source, but the only source for some articles, even though the article is available in several of our subscription databases. I always want students to utilize subscription databases over free sources, mostly because the subscription databases add value, such as citation help, and also, we pay for them and I want students to use them. I would like to see the algorithm highlight subscription databases regardless of whether a free source is available.

  10. Searching special characters Ayin or Apostrophe in Primo

In Alma, you get the same results if you include or exclude the special character ayin or apostrophe in your search terms. However, in Primo searches you need to include these special characters. If they are missing, you will not find the same result.

Ayin is used in transliterated title of items in Hebrew, Arabic, Armaic, Syriac, and Korean languages. It is not on a standard US keyboard, so it is difficult for users to include it in the search.

Apparently, Alma uses a different indexing system. We would like Primo to be able to do the same as Alma…

  11. PrimoVE : Allow splitting Dublin Core Fields

As we have set up Discovery import profiles to import Dublin Core data from other institutions into our PrimoVE instance, we have discovered a few institutions that concatenate the DC:CREATOR and DC:SUBJECT fields into a single field.

The ability to split these fields in normalization would be extremely useful in the Primo environment.

  12. Primo VE: subject searching with hyphens

When I click on a subject heading in a record in Primo VE (https://catalog.library.vanderbilt.edu/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991029907089703276&context=L&vid=01VAN_INST:DIVINITY&search_scope=MyInstitution&tab=LibraryCatalog&lang=en), Primo VE does an exact subject search and gets no results, not even the record on which I clicked the subject heading. This only happens with some subject headings, not all. An example: the subject heading Self immolation -- Religious aspects -- Buddhism gives zero results (not even the record which contains the subject link I'm clicking on shows up, nor any other records with that subject heading -- 2 others); while the subject heading Buddhism -- China -- Customs and practices seems fine.…

  13. In CDI Non-OA items appearing with OA unlocked icon

We have results that are not open access leading users to paywalled articles, and since these are all 'link in record', it is/was nearly impossible to determine which collection is leading users astray.

Is a fix in the works? Right now the collection I suspect is European Union Publications, which has no Alma portfolios, shows as Type 'Selective package', and which shows the option to 'Remove CDI-only full text activation'. I have not yet clicked that.

I hope a fix is in the pipeline.

  14. Pin Book resource type to top of resource facet list

In university libraries, a task for many users is to find books. However, because Primo VE with CDI returns so many electronic books, the Book resource type is dropped below the "Show more" fold. It would be helpful if Discovery Admin could pin some resource types to the top of the list to accelerate users in this task.

  15. Direct linking for Digital Objects to have an order in case of several DOs

Currently direct linking for digital objects when there are more than one does not follow any order. Hence, when a record has several D.Os any of them could benefit arbitrarily of the direct linking.
For example, take an English record that is accompanied by several DOs of the document in different languages. The ideal scenario will be to have the English Record and Direct linking to the English D.O. and in the Full Display the options to see other language versions. Currently, the Direct Linking takes any D.O. , which could be confusing to users.
    We would like to have…

  16. Make location choice mandatory on the resource sharing form

If a user has the option of choosing between multiple pickup locations in their resource sharing form, make this field mandatory and the location drop down menu read:

Choose one: (<--- default choice is no choice)
    Location 1
    Location 2
    Location 3
    Etc.

Right now, the default is based on a setting that could be, for example, the patron's home library. What I'm specifically requesting is that the default is "Choose one" and that the choosing be mandatory.

  17. Option to change Dublic Core normalization rules for collections in BePress' Digital Commons

Currently items imported from Digital Commons do not display a date because out of the box normalization rules for Dublin Core records will not display the date if the date field ends in Z, which is a timestamp. Since BePress claims it is required to include a timestamp, I am requesting that we can modify normalization rules to display a date with a Z field.

  18. Add Due Date/other Variables to Real Time Availability Status in Brief Records

November 2020 Primo VE release broadened the Availability Status messages in Brief Results. Our library would like to be able to further enhance the Status messages to include Due Dates, where applicable. Example: add date to Not available - Loan message, something along the lines of Not available - Checked out until {date}.

  19. Ability to limit by type of material the view of digitization request in Primo

In our institution we would like to have the ability to apply a new parameter in the display logic rules of PRIMO based on material type. For instance to show the digitization form link only for specifics types such journals or reports, but not for books.
I hope this idea seems interesting for the Primo community.

    Many thanks

  20. Add new criterion to Suppress Dedup/FRBR Rules

For Primo VE, please add the Creator/Author as a criterion to set up a Suppress Dedup/FRBR Rule.
Now record with same title, same date and same publisher, but with different Author are deduplicated, although they are totaly different works.
