Ex Libris should provide the option to place a call and/or online chat with their support team
We are disappointed with the technical support service provided by Ex Libris. We strongly believe that Ex Libris should provide customers with more effective, prompt and interactive service.
There should be an option to call or chat online in real time with a support person who has a sound understanding of the product in question. This would be in line with all system vendors we have previously dealt with.
We appreciate that there will be some issues that are designated as bugs or enhancements and will require more in depth investigation. However, a direct call/chat option with a properly trained…

Behavior and general inquiries

Fines in Grace Period should let users decide to calculate or not.
According to the policy that our institution laid down, Fines in Grace Period shouldn't be calculated.
If overdue fines count $5 a day and grace period value is 3, then patron returned an item in 4th day after due date, the patron should pay only $5.
But in Alma, we cannot set grace period that won't calculate fines. Hope to add this function to let users decide grace period fines calculate or not and make alma more flexible.
418 votesAs of July release the grace period can be set to not be included in the fine period at all.

More possibilities for the Alma Color Theme
In the new UI, libraries can manage branding in Alma by selecting one of 6 basic colors (blue, purple, red, green, brown, orange). This configuration can only be made by a General administrator and is valid for all Alma users. We would like:
- a larger variety of colors (proposing the 216 web-safe colors would be fine);
- the possibility for any user to define their own Color Theme: color experience may be very different from one individual to another and giving everyone the possibility the use a convenient color would be appreciated.330 votesNow, in Alma, the Color Scheme can be configured on the user level, not just the institutional level.

comment/note field for configurations
A comment or note field for configurations would be incredibly helpful in general, but the current pandemic has highlighted the need for a way to easily track the reasons behind changes. This would keep the notes in the places where they'd be seen by the people working on the configurations, rather than us having to track things in a separate place.
All of the fulfillment configuration menu would benefit from this ability when short-term or emergency changes are being made. But it would also be good in places like: Letters; DARA recommendations; and all Other Settings areas. These are places…

Swedish Characters (Case nr 00794172 Swedish Film Institute)
Apparently, since Alma and Primo are indexed differently, if you have chosen Scandinavian characters during implementation, Alma cannot handle searches on, for example, French accents. Works in Primo, but not Alma.
Obviously, for us Scandinavian customers this is problematic. There is a risk that both staff and patrons end up with faulty search results.
Andrew Christison, Customer Success Manager, promised to look into this on our behalf but also suggested we make an Idea Exchange for this issue.309 votesAs of July release the handling of Scandinavian characters was enhanced. Configuring different sender e-mail addresses (SMPT-envelope-from) for one letter-type
For now the SMTP-envelope-from definition for Alma Letters can be set only once per letter-type. This isn’t suitable. E.g., our libraries need more than one sender email address for different acquisition departments. Vendors should be able to reply directly to the departments E-Mail-address. Using one no-reply-address (as SMTP-envelope-from value) in combination with a “reply-to”-addresses written in the Mail Footer cannot be a permanent solution.
Actual situation in Alma:
When an E-Mail is send in the context of a job Alma takes the SMTP-envelope-from value from the „addressFrom”-definition in the concerning letter-configuration (general configuration -> letter emails).
When an E-Mail is…264 votesWhen sending patron notices from a library, the library's 'Circulation Communication' address will be used as the reply to address on the email. For more information see video at https://youtu.be/bFfopLgjEN4'

Add parameters to control anonymization of requests, resource sharing and fines
We'd want to be able to control the anonymisation of requests, resource sharing requests and fines and fees in a similar way to loans. In particular we'd like to be able to set a parameter for days since user expiry and since the request or fine was complete.
This would allow us to create a clear policy for anonymising and purging data in Alma so that all data was treated in the same way i.e. could say that all data was anonymised or purged X number of years after user left. It would also allow us to be confident that…
262 votesAs of July release you can define rules for all anonymization types, not just loans.

Persistent search box to display recent searches for all search types eg. PO line
Currently the persistent search box only allows re-running a recent repository search in the recent history drop down. It doesn't remember recent searches for other types eg. Order line, Users, Vendors etc. It would be very useful to remember these searches as many people work in different areas that don't use repository searches that often, but perform other searches.

Create Alma search queries and sets with relative dates
Give customers the ability to query Alma using relative dates. This functionality is currently only available in Alma Analytics, but we would like it to also be available for repository search.
This functionality would be especially useful for creating sets, particularly logical sets that can be used to populate logical collections. One of the most common uses for collections is to showcase new materials (e.g., books, journals, databases, etc. acquired in the last 90 days). However, there is currently no way to build a logical set like this. The best one can do is to select the current year and…
175 votesHey all,
Thank you for submitting and supporting this idea!
Starting from the May 2025 release, Date-related search indexes in the Users advanced search now include new options to search within a moving range of days. This enhancement allows you to create dynamic "moving-window" sets (for example, a logical set of users who expired in the last 30 days).
We're planning to expand this functionality to additional search indexes in upcoming releases.
If there are specific search indexes where you'd like to see this feature implemented, please weigh in on this related idea: Search possibilities as "Received X weeks ago" or "Available X weeks ago".

Export slips to PDF
Currently, Alma only allows exporting slips to Excel or "printing" to an email address. Please please add an option to export to PDF, using similar output that gets sent to a printer. Seems like it would be easy to add, and would be immensely useful.

Timeout should be configurable
Timeout should be configurable to allow for longer timeout than 60 min. This would be helpful for staff who work for example in areas like information services where you need to use Alma several times during the day but not continuously
128 votesHi all, Happy to inform you that all Ex Libris platform products now include a configurable session timeout feature in response to community feedback from the Idea Exchange. Institutions can now set a default session timeout duration ranging from 15 to 150 minutes (default remains 60 minutes) from the new "Session Timeout" configuration page. For additional details see Alma May 2025 Release Notes.

Improved facets in Alma - Include/Exclude plus the ability to select multiple facets
After searching in Alma, it would be great if we have the ability to further refine searching with facets that allow for the selection of multiple selections, as well as offering the ability to exclude or includes. For example, when searching a POL now, my facets for Status include In Review, Waiting for Renewal, Waiting for Manual Renewal, etc. I would like to either exclude two facets, or include 5 facets, but now I have to select one facet, review, then clear that facet and select the next one.
91 votesHi All,
As previously stated by Lili, this functionality was already developed and exists in few pages in Alma (like Manage Sets, POL, Resource Sharing, and soon in search pages of All Titles, Electronic Titles, Physical Titles, Digital Titles, and more). Gradually, additional pages will move to the New UI, and will support the exclude facets functionality.
Thanks,
The Alma Team

Ensure sample xml is available at the same time new Alma letters are released
When new Alma letters are released it would be super helpful if:
• The sample xml file is added to the zip file here https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/blog/alma-letters-xml-samples-for-working-on-xsl-customization to coincide with the Sandbox release
• Release notes include a link to the post on the developers network
Even better would be if the sample could be downloaded from within Alma letters configuration
LettersDefault.xml which is currently downloadable in Alma is a generic xml which cannot be used for customisation. Some letters require a scheduled job to be run (these are disabled on Sandbox by default) making it inconvenient to generate a letter…
91 votesAs of of Alma May Release when configuring letters, users can make use of out-of-the-box XML examples. These examples were now enriched to provide more detail that can help uses to customize the letters.

Add a print test page option to printer action menu
It would be great to have a simple way to test Alma printers, rather than having to go through a workflow to print something out. I think a good place for this would be on the action menu for each printer.
89 votesAlma has incorporated a Test option on the Printer configuration page that enables users to send a test HTML to the printer to verify that the printer is operational with Alma.

Less Scan In operations
Despite the fact that Work Orders (WO) can be linked to a Circulation Desk, working with Work Order Departments and Circulation Desks in a same session can still cause many Scan In operations for the staff.
There might be indeed several scan-in operations before an item becomes finally indicated as available (on shelf) on Alma/Primo. This is particularly the case for smaller libraries or library branches when most of the operations are made in the front office, at the library desk itself.
We would like to reduce the number of scan-in operations so that for example at the end of…
70 votesAs part of the November release you can now set relation rules between libraries so that transit for reshelving will not be required between certain libraries, departments, and circulation desks. This reduces redundant work effort by not automatically putting items in transit for reshelving when the libraries are close to each other. This does not affect other transit types, such as hold shelf, work order, and processing.
A new link, Reshelve Without Transit Rules, is now available in the Fulfillment configuration menu. By default, a rule is created with no input parameter and an output parameter set to false to maintain current functionality.for more information see: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/030Fulfillment/080Configuring_Fulfillment/020Library?mt-draft=true#Configuring_Reshelve_Without_Transit_Rules

Allow for "open in a new tab"
We should be able to have more than one page in Alma open in different tabs. Now, when I click "open in a new tab" the page that opens is the Alma homepage. This makes many of my workflows difficult.

I'm happy to inform you that the new capability of parallel work in multiple tabs in internet-browser was released in May 2024 Release. See Release Note publication - "Support Parallel Work in Multiple Tabs in Internet-Browser":

Upgrade internal XSLT processor
Copied from https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308179-rosetta/suggestions/31088020-upgrade-internal-xslt-processor
Currently ALMA seems to accept only XSLT 1.0 syntax for XSLT custom letter configuration files. This means we are deprived of the many goodies of XSLT 2.0 and 3.0:
- strong typing and XSD types
- XPATH 2.0 sequences
- XSL functions
- range variables
- regular expression matching and grouping
- URL encoding and decoding
- better value comparison
EXSLT 1.0 is not supported either, so whenever I try to do something more intelligent that some simple markup and string replacing, I hit the limits of XSLT 1.0. Trying to make decisions in your XSLT based on element values without regular expressions is…
37 votesAs of Nov 2022, it is possible in Alma to use functions in XSL version 3 or lower for letters configuration. See https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Release_Notes/2022/Alma_2022_Release_Notes?mon=202211BASE

Make the Manage Sets table sortable

Creation Date32 votesAs of Alma June Release you can:
sort the list of sets by any of the existing fields.

Customize display settings
Parts of Alma are difficult to read. I would like to see more space between lines of text, more contrast between font colors, larger type, etc.. It would be nice if each user could customize their display settings.
