APA 7th style should insert HTTP prefix to DOI, not require it to be hardcoded
The DOI metadata field should include literally just the DOI, so that users can switch styles without having to manually edit every record. The 7th edition style is forcing users to hardcode the https://doi.org/ in the DOI field which renders it unusable for any other style that doesn't use that format. Instead require the user to NOT have any characters (eg doi:) in the DOI field other than the actual DOI, and apply the https://doi.org/ prefix to the data when generating the bibliography for APA 7th citations.
Following additional feedback we added more APA 7th styles so users can choose the most suitable option. A total of 8 versions are now available.

Yes, prefix https://doi.org/ is avilable, but it should be a live URL link and it is not. You cannot click on it and get right to the article, see attached image. By clicking on the URL, you get only to https://www.doi.org/.
So for me this should be further improved. -

I fully agree with the comments below and I'm very happy to hear that APA 7th was updated. Please note that this applies also for all other styles! Just the other day, I was expected to use the Chicago style but in order to get the references correct, I had to make a personal copy of the output style and then edit the doi definitions for the various types of sources.
So please, perform the corresponding update also to other major output styles! -

As a librarian, I can't in good faith promote refworks to my users if it's going to make things more difficult for them or another product does it better. With this users would have to edit all of their DOIs in the records if they need to switch styles (for another journal class etc). You're killing the versatility of your product, the magic that helps sell it.

I agree too. Why would we intentionally make things MORE difficult???? I think this needs to be addressed ASAP.

Your current configuration is going to require the user to edit pretty much every DOI field in every citation anyway, so having to edit just the ones that have the extra stuff isn't more of a burden, and vendors really shouldn't be including anything extra in the DOI import anyway so that's something we librarians can fight with them about. - Melissa Belvadi

Agree. This is a big part of the APA 7th edition style manual changes and it would be much easier for students, faculty and any other users of the product not to have to do this manually versus just adding it as part of the citation generation. I really don't want to have to explain this when I teach refworks that most of your APA 7th edition references will be correct, except the DOI and explain the fix. This will most definitely put people off of the product altogether. People are looking for something to save them time not create more work.

I agree. I believe this would not be tremendously difficult to do. I also think that they will be driving users away if they do not make this change. If users have to make the change manually to every one of their citations in APA 7th format, they will choose to use alternate citation software rather than deal with the hassle. I don't want to deal with it, and I'm sure my students don't either. I have a feeling they will forget to make the changes and they will get their citations wrong, thus decreasing their grade. This is a bad move for RefWorks!

Please, please do this! We love RefWorks, and heavily promote it, but it needs to follow the latest changes in APA 7th to stay relevant.
