  1. Do responsive the Refworks site

Currently the user interface and login site are hard to handle trough mobile devices.

I suggest a user interface auto adaptable to device screen (responsive)

Main sections of the site, including login screens and navigation have been improved; responsiveness on mobile devices is planned to be addressed in the future roadmap.

  2. Please negate the need for Refworks to require a new tab and login when I export new references from my Institution's database.

I would like all my exported references to default to the Refworks database I already have open at the time.
Each time I export a new reference into Refworks, I am asked to login again which results in multiple Refworks tabs open.

After investigation we determined this is not possible to change as each database sets own link targets on their own sites, resulting in RefWorks being open in separate tab. With multiple tabs, references are imported independently and are not overwritten.

  3. APA capitalization

I would love to see the automation of capitalizing proper nouns in APA. I believe that the only way to currently achieve this is to edit the citation after export.

Thank you for your feedback. We don't see this feature being included in our roadmap at this time, since it is not aligned with our functionality and use cases.

  4. Add customizable BibTex citekey field

The ability to export Bibtex files is a key feature of RefWorks. However, the format of the citekey is terrible - too long and difficult for users to recall. Other reference managers allow customization of this field, and RefWorks should, too.

  5. Drag and Drop to folders: option to decide whether to copy or move to another folder

Drag and drop a reference to a folder: It would be nice, if I could choose wether I want to copy it to a folder or if I want to move it from one to another folder.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We won't be able to address this idea in our planned roadmap.

This functionality is available now by assigning references to and from folders.

We are committed to our users and are focusing on current goals and most requested features.

  6. Add "one line one cite" feature. Gives people ability to insert in-text citations in programs other than Word or Google Docs.

Our campus is using Microsoft Office 365. The "one line one cite" feature that was available in the Legacy version gives the option of being able to insert citations/create bibliographies in other writing software.

  7. Import filter for ICTRP (clinical trials database)

Please could you provide an import filter for .xml files of references which can be exported from the ICTRP database:
    http://www.who.int/ictrp/en/
It's free to use so it should be possible for you to obtain an .xml file with the tagged references on which to base an import filter. Clinical trials databases are searched a lot in health.

  9. can you make it as an add-in for powerpoint?

  10. LibreOffice integration via a plugin (like Write-n-Cite with Word)

Although RefWorks supports exporting bibliographies in ODF format, it's missing the integration with LibreOffice. Other reference management tools do provide this, so it would be useful if RefWorks did as well. Thank you!

  11. Transfer the search strategy from the database(s) searched to the results folder we shared with library user(s)

It would be very helpful if we could transfer the search strategy from the database(s) searched to the results folder we shared with our library user(s) - our searches tend to be used for publications and search so the search strategy is very important. If PRISMA diagrams could also be added to the folder, this would also be helpful. Thanks.

  12. Add the ability to resize the window of Write-N-CiteⅢ and WNC4

It may be useful for users to be able to change the window size of Write-n-Cite III and WNC 4 as they like.

  13. Add Menu for Language Setting on WnC

We can set the language by ourselves when we login to WnC with Legacy RefWorks account, but we cannot when we login to New version's account. Please add menu to set the language even when we login to WnC with New RefWorks accounts! This request is for users who also uses non-English languages in the world, but I think it is needed.

  14. Being able to display a message to all users when they login

We made changes to one of our institutional styles and I wanted to have a message show to all users when they login. I am sure there are other things we would want to alert them to changes we have made to RefWorks. Messages could display until the user dismisses them.

  15. URGENT - New import HELP (BIBLIOSAN)

    Dear ALL,
I am writing from the San Matteo hospital (Bibliosan consortium). We are participating in an important European project on convalescent plasma and Covid-19. We are doing a bibliographic search in many databases. Many of these are not present in the Refwork import and also their export formats. Do you think it is not acceptable that formats such as .txt, .csv, .xml cannot be imported into Refworks in both new and 2.0.
These are important sites such as EU Clinical Trials Register https://www.clinicaltrialsregister.eu/ctr-search/search (attached on example) or WHO https://www.who.int/ictrp/en/.

Can you add these formats or databases? Our research…

    21 votes

After taking a look at the files generated by these sites, we see they are not reference files and don’t have consistent reference metadata. Therefore they cannot be imported as references. You can of course upload such a file into RefWorks in order to store it in your collection (as a single reference with the file attached, not a reference per entry in the file). To do so select “Add” → “Upload Document”.

  16. Integrate RefWorks in Canvas LMS

Integrate RefWorks in Canvas LMS so researchers i.e, teachers, professors, instructors can easily build their citations directly in the Canvas learning management system.

  17. Include a backup and restore system in the new Refworks version

I think it is important to incorporate into the Refworks application, a utility for backing up and restoring both bibliographic references, as well as the structure of folders, labels, shared items, etc.

  18. Increase the number of allowed subfolders

Currently allowed 4 subfolders under each main folder. Would like that increase by several more allowed subfolders to better organize large projects or issues.

  19. Make 'Save to Refworks' tab more compatible with ProQuest articles

Articles retrieved from ProQuest are interpreted as Web Pages instead of Journal Article and information has to be manually entered.

  20. I would like to suggest that an upgrade be written so RefWorks can interface with Scrivener.

It would be very handy to be able to import citations into the Scrivener writing system, as opposed to just having access to Word, etc.
