Allow admins to delete deactivated accounts.
We can deactivate accounts as admin, but we are unable to delete them. Admins should be able to delete accounts.
I work in an institution that will reuse email addresses once a student leaves; this creates problems re: deactivated accounts in RefWorks. I would like to be able to delete accounts.
7 votesWe've carefully considered your feedback, performed user research and have decided not to include this feature in the near future.

references page generation
Currently, the bibliography page generation doesn't work. It comes up with the loading symbol, but never loads. It was working originally, however the feature no longer works.

Write-N-Cite - overview of new / old versions
It would be great to have a page where not only the latest version of WnC will be downloable, but also an overview of previous versions and known issues connected with these versions.
Because Proquest rather does not inform about found bugs, I am quite often not sure if it is absolutely necessary to download the latest version or not. We would also be able to better respond to queries from RW end-users who report non-standard RefWorks behavior.3 votesThank you for your feedback. We are not planning any new development for the WnC feature, as WnC is planned to end by Q2 2025. We recommend using the RefWorks Citation Manager going forward. Could Microsoft be persuaded to rename RefWorks in WNC?
At the moment in Word WnC appears as RefWorks. This is confusing to users who should be using the infinitely superior RCM. We steer students to RCM, but believe they are using WnC because it is labelled as RefWorks and is the obvious, although wrong choice
1 voteIn 2023, RefWorks announced plans to end support for WnC in favor of RCM. Details for upgrades will be shared with Admins and users starting in Q2 2024, through Q4 2024.

Write-N-Cite VS RCM
Hola!
¡Cracias!1 voteWnC is no longer available for installation.

Citation view - journal issue number
Journal issue number is highlighted yellow if missing in Citation View. Can it be changed to yellow as some journals do not have an issue number.
3 votesThank you for submitting this idea. The missing data indication is based on the style requirements, and cannot take the specific journal into account. Since in many cases a blank journal issue number field would indeed be considered missing data we would like users to have the yellow indication. You can still cite the reference with the missing data, the error will appear only in citation view and not in your citations and bibliography.

Option to save and display year without month and day
I never want to display the publication day and month, just the year. When I import references, the full date is automatically saved and displayed. I then have to go through my references deleting the information I don't want. Could there be options to save the year only and display this in place of the full date?
I'm using RCM in Word.
3 votesThank you for submitting this idea. There are two ways you can use the year only:
1. Using the Bulk Edit feature, edit at once all references where the date contains a certain year and replace it with the year only (repeat for each year). Read more about Bulk Edit here: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Product_Documentation/RefWorks_User_Guide/0400_Managing_References#Editing_References
2. Create a custom citation style that will use the Year field (for reference types that have this field) instead of the Date field. Watch the Citation Style Editor tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6ORsIDtNPk&t=168s -

"Ref Grab It" compatibility with MS Edge.
Please make the "Ref Grab It" tool compatible with MS Edge. Last I saw it worked with Internet Explorer, but I don't now of anyone who uses that. Our IT dept has mandated that we use Edge. I'd love to use the RGI tool, but I am unable to do so with Edge. Thank you!
1 voteWe will not be changing the legacy RefWorks Ref Grab It functionality. Please use Save to RefWorks with a (new) RefWorks account, as described here: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Product_Documentation/RefWorks_User_Guide/0500_RefWorks_Add-ons%3A_Connecting_Your_Browser%2C_Microsoft_Word%2C_and_Google_Docs_to_RefWorks#Save_to_RefWorks

follow local folder
I save all the PDFs of my papers on a local folder. It will be great if RefWorks could follow this folder and add the reference automatically as soon as I save it to my drive.

Problem: RefWorks in Word (64-bit) does not communicate with my RefWorks folders.
Hello,
When I open Word, RefWorks Write-N-Cite-tool reports the following (see screenshot). When I try to add citation in Word, none of my folders is shown. In the RefWorks website, however, everything is normal. What should I do?
Thank You!

Built in pdf converter
When a reference isn't in pdf format, I have to convert it to a pdf, then use a third-party program to OCR the content, in order for the document to be able to be read and highlighted in RefWorks. It would be nice if RefWorks had a converter built in that recognizes many files types and converts them automatically to the format it will recognize. Some pdfs that we have OCR'ed are still not recognized by RefWorks. This is frustrating for faculty and students, and the librarians who wish to help them.

Allow author disambiguation citation style changes
With multiple references from same author, same year, the citation currently uses full stops when adding the author's initials. I have citation style set up to not use full stops (just initials) but RCM defaults to full stops. Can custom citations styles please be accepted by RCM?

Continue repeating citation suffix throughout text
The disambiguation system for multiple references from the same author, same year is to add a suffix (a, b, c, etc). However the suffix only appears the first time the reference is cited. This creates confusion when the references are cited multiple times in the text as it becomes impossible to know which references future citations refer to.

Bibliography order of citations with same author and year
When creating a bibliography in Word using Write 'n Cite, RefWorks automatically bases the order of citations on the author, then the title. However, when using two different citations with the same author and year, I want the order of those citations to be the same order I used them in the text.
Now I have 'author(2021b)' first in my text, then 'author(2021a)' because it's sorted like that in the bibliography.5 votesAt the end of 2024, WnC will no longer be supported. Please upgrade to RCM, where this functionality is available.

Offline GUI
I would like be able to use Refworks on a computer that doesn't have internet access. A GUI which allows me to manage citations without an internet connection.
5 votesThank you for your valuable feedback. We won't be able to address this idea in our planned roadmap. We are committed to our users and are focusing on current goals and most requested features.

Make it faster
For something that it paid for, my RefWorks is always moving REAL slow compared to other paid reference managers I've used (mainly EndNote). RefWorks seems to have trouble handling the 2,000+ references I've accumulated (and continue to accumulate) over my career.

Colour settings
I am supporting a student with severe visual impairment for whom colour contrast is vital. The white background in RW is a problem. Could RW be developed to allow the colours to be changed? In her case she finds a black background with white writing best for her disability.
3 votesWe recommend using a browser add-on to change colour contrast. It can be used for RCM as well if using the online rather than desktop version of Word. Please refer here for details: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/RefWorks/Product_Documentation/RefWorks_Accessibility_Guide#External_Resources
