NERS 2021 - Pressbooks Directory
The Pressbooks Directory (https://pressbooks.directory/) indexes over 2000 open access books created by educational institutions. As many of these are not indexed separately, it would be great if the contents of the directory could be included in the Alma Community Zone and/or the Central Discovery Index.
NERS 2021 Request ID: 7539
After discussing with the provider, adding Pressbook content to CDI looks like the most suitable solution to best represent Pressbook's network.
I reopened this idea and changed it's status to "Under Review".
Thanks for your patience and support.

If possible, I would like to advocate for this content to be in CZ instead or in addition to CDI. There is so much more we can do with records in our Primo environments when we have access to the bibs directly. Even if it was on a more irregular update schedule, it would have great value to be in CZ.

This would be excellent and of much assistance with discovery of these excellent learning resources

Last week it was announced that Pressbooks and Ebsco were partnering so that Pressbooks Directory content would be available in Ebsco discovery services.
Thankfully it's indicated as non-exclusive, so hoping there will be a similar announcement for Ex Libris soon?
Can we reopen this suggestion because this would be amazing

I support the reopening of this request as the Project Officer for the CAUL OER Collective Pressbooks collection https://oercollective.caul.edu.au/catalog/

This would be a great addition. My institution has two titles in the new CAUL OER collective published in this platform. We would love to have our records available for all Alma, Primo institutions. We would also like all the Pressbooks titles to be available for activation.

Thank you for your response.
My name is Tamar Ganor and I am replacing Rael as content PM.
Let me check this internally and get back to you.

I'm the product manager for Pressbooks. Someone recently made me aware of this thread. I haven't had any discussion with anyone at Ex Libris, but would be interested in discussing what you describe as our 'insufficient linking support' and ways that we might be able to improve that if that's a blocker for discovery. Are you interested in discussing further or directing me to the problem you encountered?
When will Pressbooks be added as open access content?
Yes, please add PressbooksEDU to the Alma Community Zone as well as the CDI.

I second Lachlan's idea to add the Pressbooks Directory of 2000 plus open access books to the Alma Community Zone (CZ) as well as the Central Discovery Index (CDI).
One example of a new Pressbook textbook, created collaboratively by some of the California Community Colleges is "Introduction to College Research": https://introtocollegeresearch.pressbooks.com/ This textbook could be used for information literacy classes and workshops. The textbook also includes supplementary Canvas modules available for import/download in the Canvas Commons: https://lor.instructure.com/resources/c365c982ba214696ae1b10afe73e6551?shared
