   Large ingest files often hang or encounter metadata validation errors that are difficult to diagnose.

   See what the metadata is like for what you are talking about, where it's from now on.

   Current automated workflows sometimes skip important checks, creating risks for the quality of the archived data.

   Why can't the metadata validation be based on the pipeline?

   The field of digital preservation is rapidly evolving beyond the storage of static PDF and TIFF files. As institutions look toward the future, there is an increasing need to develop robust workflows for preserving interactive web-based artifacts, including early HTML5 and legacy Flash-based applications that represent a significant era of internet culture.
   Current preservation strategies within Rosetta excel at handling complex document structures, but we believe there is an opportunity to enhance support for emulated web environments. Preserving the "look and feel" of the early 21st-century internet is crucial for future social historians. For example, researchers studying the evolution of digital leisure and subcultural bypass techniques might find it valuable to analyze the structure and metadata of an Unblocked Games portal to understand how these platforms adapted to increasingly restrictive institutional firewalls over the last decade.
   To achieve this level of preservation, Rosetta would benefit from improved integration with web archiving tools (like WAIL or Webrecorder) and more granular metadata schema for interactive software assets. Specifically, we suggest:
   Enhancing technical metadata extraction for bundled JavaScript and WebGL assets to ensure long-term bitstream integrity.

    Due to an error in one of our input files that creates the METS during a recent batch of deposits, we found that our original METS file did not have unique file IDs in the structMaps for the preservation master and modified master representations (for more details, see case 00477041 from the Getty). It was simply repeating the same file ID from the access file representation.

    We validated against the Rosetta XSD both before and after deposit, and for some reason, this did not result in a METS validation mistake. Consequently, however, no files in the METS in Rosetta were listed by the structMaps with the duplicate file IDs. Because the fileIDs in the fileSec were valid, every file was imported properly; however,

Currently, Rosetta requires manual entry or external tools to manage language variants, which can be time consuming and prone to inconsistency — especially for global collections that include dozens of languages.

    I’d like to propose enhancing Rosetta’s multilingual capabilities by adding built-in support for automatic translations and language fallback management within the platform itself. This would include features such as the ability to define multiple language variants for metadata fields, an integrated automatic translation option for common languages, and a system-wide setting for language preference fallback when localized content isn’t available. For example, if a French user views a record that only has English metadata, the system could automatically present a translated version or offer a one-click translation alternative.

    This feature would not only help institutions with diverse language collections, but also improve the accessibility and discoverability of content for end users around the world. Allowing administrators to configure preferred languages and fallback hierarchies from within Rosetta’s UI would streamline workflows and reduce reliance on external translation tools. Ultimately, better multilingual handling would support broader community engagement and make Rosetta a more flexible solution for international digital preservation.

    We discovered that our original METS file lacked unique file IDs in the structMaps for the preservation master and modified master representations because of a mistake in one of our input files that generates the METS during a recent batch of deposits (for more information, see case 00477041 from the Getty). Just the same file ID from the access file representation was being repeated.

    We verified against the Rosetta XSD both before and after deposit, and for some reason, this did not result in a METS validation mistake. But as a result, the structMaps with the duplicate file IDs did not list any files in the METS in Rosetta. All of the files were imported correctly because the fileIDs in the fileSec were accurate, but no structMap accessed them. It would have been too much work to fix this in the back office, so we erased the 150 or so IEs and started again.

    Could you make the METS XSD more stringent so that each structMap's file IDs must be distinct? I am aware that using the same file ID across different representations with the same structMap type is against Rosetta's data model, thus it would make sense if the XSD enforced this rule.

    Hi all,

    I am hooking up an audio interface (Tascam Model 12) and when I tried downloading the drivers, I got a message that said I needed to install Rosetta to open it X Trench Run. I am totally new to Macs: is this a complete non-issue? Will Rosetta impact my Mac's performance in any way? I've read it's difficult to uninstall, so I'm hesitant to do it.
