Primo VE: Ability to search by publisher (advanced search or facet)
The MARC 260b + 264b field is not included in the out-of-the-box indexing in Primo VE advanced search or facet as PUBLISHER. According to the documentation the publisher name is searchable only by general in the simple search and not in the advanced search, specific search for the publisher name. Readers want to limit the results by the name of the publisher.
This idea is currently under review for future enhancement.

My institution would also be very interested in such a new feature. In our view, it is essential to ensure that this new index and facet apply not only to Alma data (MARC and DC), but also to external data sources and CDI records. We have submitted Aha request PENH-I-28434 (Create a dedicated Primo search index and facet for Publishers and Printers).
"Following feedback from end-users and reference librarians, we request the creation of a dedicated Primo search index and facet for publishers and printers, in order to enable proper discovery, exploitation, and highlighting of publisher- and printer-related metadata.
This enhancement is particularly important for the valorization of physical and digitized heritage collections, where publisher and printer information is a key access point for research, provenance studies, and collection analysis.
At present, publisher and printer data can only be retrieved through the "general" index, which is insufficient for targeted searching, browsing, and faceting. As a result, valuable metadata remains largely invisible and underexploited.
Scope of the Proposed Index:
The new Primo index should include the following data sources and fields:
1) All Alma fields and subfields currently included in the Alma "Publisher" index (260 b,f; 261 a,b,e; 262 b; 264 b ; 502 c ; and 533 c);
2) All MARC 1XX and 7XX fields associated with relation codes "pbl" (Publisher) or "prt" (Printer);
3) Values of the Dublin Core publisher field, for both Alma DC records and external data sources;
4) Publisher- and printer-related values in CDI records.Normalization and Faceting Rules:
Default normalization rules should be applied to this index and facet in order to:
- Neutralize non-relevant or purely formal elements in publisher names (e.g. corp., imprint, Ltd., Inc., etc.)
- Enable maximum clustering and grouping of variant forms of the same publisher or printer
- Improve facet usability, consistency, and relevance for end usersThis enhancement would significantly improve the discoverability and analytical value of publisher and printer metadata in Primo, especially for institutions managing rich historical and special collections."

Note that MARC fields 260 and 264 are searchable from the simple search (after August 2022), but to make them a separate index in the Advanced Search, you should add a local field for display and search/facet (one out of 10/15 fields) and add it to the view's Advanced Search fields list.

Again, is there an update on this functionality? Similar to Publisher, Place of publication is also needed as an option in the advanced search and as facet.

Is there any news regarding this request? It was requested five years ago, got hundreds of votes, with no response yet.

I agree that search by publisher should be an option in advanced search out of the box, and
publisher should be a facet out of the box.Edit 2.6.2025: place 8 by number of votes at the moment.

According documentation, fields 260 ab and 264 ab are searchable since August 2022 through General index and also corresponding 880-260b and 880-264b. Still missing in this index are 880-260a and 880-264a and 751 (place of publication), so this IE can be archived.

Searching/limiting by publisher is essential for collections work. For example, I need to be able to pull up ALL our Elsevier titles in one search. We need this enabled asap.

It is extremely useful and common for patrons to be able to include a place of publication in a search string

I think that it will be also a good thing to have the 264$a indexed. Actually, it is not possible to find something published in a certain place of publication, neither in the simple search, nor in the advanced search. Especially for rare books, patrons want to find specifics editions and the town in an important criteria

Hi Chainy
thank you for your comment.
we know that we can use the local field and use normalization rules for search and facet. but we have only 10 NR and we have finished all.
This is so basic - (publisher, series and edition), thus we don't think it should be part of the 10 local fields with NR for search. It is either we will have more than 10 (at least 15) or (publisher, series and edition) should be OTB.
I believe this is very important not only for my institute but also for others
thank you very much.

This can be achieved by creating local field and use normalization rules for search and facet. for information see: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/020Primo_VE/025Display_Configuration/040Configuring_Local_Display_and_Search_Fields_for_Primo_VE#Adding_a_Local_Field
