How can we improve Primo?

  1. allow all fines (closed and open) to show in patron's library account online

    Patrons can only see active fines in their library account, but they need to be able to see all closed and paid fines as well so they can review what has been charged to them and what they have already paid. This is key especially when fines are exported to the bursar office since those are marked as 'closed' and students can no longer review them!

  2. New books Carousel

    Hello, we all saw EDS New books Carousel and liked it.
    We want Ex Libris to develop new books carousel for Primo customers. please look at AUR Library - The American University of Rome page [https://www.aur.edu/], from the university main page choose the library and you'll get to EDS.

  3. Integrate the Alma Digital Viewer into the Primo UI

    I see a breaks in the user experience consistency with the Alma/Primo combination with the link to digital objects in Primo. The link is opening the Alma Digital Viewer and it's look and feel is totally different from the Primo UI. Primo is the interface to the customer. Please integrate the UI into Primo and let Alma manage the objects and the metadata.

    What my webmaster is missing and criticising on the Digital Viewer page:
    - it delivers the wrong favicon
    - link behind the Alma logo points to the actual Digital Viewer page
    - link behind the institutional logo…

  4. Institutions are able to choose how a record is selected as the record to appear in the results list as part of the frbr process

    Where there are different editions of a work available, Primo groups these and uses the record with the richest metadata to display as the top record in the results list. Often this is not the most recent edition of the work. This can be misleading for users who believe the edition appearing in the results list to be the latest edition and so seek this out. For us, this has meant requests for items held on off-campus stores have been requested rather than a more recent edition held on the open stacks.     You can now define the preferred record displayed for FRBR to be the recent edition – this is coming with Primo November 2020 release and already released for Primo VE in Q2 2020, as part of NERS 6230 – Enable option to favour latest edition of bibliographic work to top the FRBR group.

  5. Allow users to personalize default scope for them

    Option to allow a Primo user to select which scope they prefer to work with when multiple scopes. Two possibilities - allow this to be set for as a saved option for signed-in users only, or allow this to be set as a cookie for guest users and be saved as a cookie on that computer. This could apppear as a "Personalize" selection.

    This will truly empower users - e.g. if they don't want to see Primo Central results most of the time, they will not be hampered by the library's choice of "All" as a default scope. Or if…

    Thank you for posting this suggestion. The direction we choose to implement to allow users to easily navigate to their recent used scopes, you can find more details in Primo August release notes – Easy Selection of recent used search scopes. this is planned to be released in Primo VE September release .

  6. Lateral linking as standard option for more fields

    At this moment, lateral links are available OTB for authors and subjects; and can be implemented for local fields.
    We ‘d like lateral linking to be a standard option for more fields like : ispartof, relation and unititle.
    Use case is a series link in tab Details.

  8. Primo New UI : Allow OTB ordering of full record display sections

    The New UI does not allow libraries to easily configure the order of the sections in the full record display.
    We would like an Out of the Box solution to re-order the full record display.

    For example: We would like to move the ViewIt section to the top, and move the Actions sections to sit after the Details section.

  9. exclude/include reviews from resultlist

    There should be an option "expand my results to include book reviews", similarly to the option "expand my results beyond library collection" in the facets. While having reviews in the list is helpful for some tasks (e.g. acquisitions) they appear misleading to our students and we wish to exclude them by default.

  10. Copy citations to the clipboard in rich text format

    The "citation" tool copies citations to the clipboard in plain text format. Could Primo be modified to allow citations to be copied in rich-text format, in order to preserve the formatting in the citation?

  11. Citation Linker: Article should be default tab instead of Journal or option to configure

    The Citation Linker defaults to Journal. We would like the default to be Article since that is how we use Citation Linker the most. We have found that in order to get this to work we would have to do custom java coding.

    We would like for Citation Linker to either default to Article or have the ability to easily configure it to show a tab of our choice.

    We are happy to announce that this functionality is available in the Primo new UI from May release

  12. Ability to choose more granular subject links and not just the entire string, as in: "Comic books, strips, etc -- Social aspects -- United"

    Ability to choose a section of a subject links and not just the entire string. E.g. "Comic books, strips, etc -- Social aspects -- United States" can only be selected as a whole, but not as individual parts, such as "Comic books, strips, etc."

  13. send eMail for logged in users only

    Currently, Primo can be used to send spam via the sendTo in the details tab. Anyone can send a message to everyone. Sending E-Mail should be possible for loggedIn users only. Indeed, there is a google reCaptcha service, but activating it is yet not acceptable due to data protection policy issues of many universities.

  14. Incorporate e-resources in the Virtual Browse tab

    We would very much like the option to have the Virtual Browse carousel interfile e- and print resources. Currently the carousel only includes print resources.

    Curtin University (http://catalogue.curtin.edu.au/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do) seem to have achieved this (see the 'Further Reading' tab under the search results) and you can clearly identify which are online and which are print resources.

  15. Add MHRA (Modern Humanities Research Association) as citation style

    The new UI 'send-to' citation functionality extends to APA, Chicago, MLA, Harvard styles. The majority of humanities students (at least at this institution) are asked to use the MHRA citation style. Please vote for this idea if you would like to see MHRA added to the list.

  16. Include the item barcode as part of the data published from Alma to Primo in the AVA field to improve item search in Primo

    Request for Alma item barcode be included in the data that is published to Primo as part of the Alma publishing functionality to enable barcode searchability in the Primo keyword search. We have discovered that items migrated from our previous ILS do contain the item barcode(s) in the MARC 945 $$i and is written to the search:general field of the PNX. As such, those items are keyword searchable via their barcode in Primo. However, for items created in Alma, the item barcode is not written to the bib record and is therefore not searchable in Primo.   17. Add ability to change default sort for results

    I would like to change the default sort for one of our views from Relevance to Date-newest. Our library has a lot of grey literature which is not handled appropriately by the Relevance sort.

  18. Enable actions for loans/requests in My Account

    Right now in Primo, if you have items checked out at your library, you can't do anything with them in the UI. You can't send to RefWorks, email, etc. Users would like to be able to send these items to citation management tools and they currently can’t do that. From the loan list, there is no link back to the full record.

  19. Improve APA citation format to include the DOI for an article

    APA citation format should include the DOI information for journal articles. As recommended by APA.

    However citations from Primo do not include a DOI.

    We note that Summon is able to do this and hope that the defect be resolved.

    Thank you for this idea, with the enhancement of supporting Citation Style Language (CSL) in Primo, the mapping of data was improved. The DOI is included for APA style taken from CSL official repository

  20. Add AMA (American Medical Association) as Citation Style

    Currently, the Primo Action functionality allows for APA, Chicago, and MLA citation styles. In order to benefit students of Medicine and Science, we would like to add AMA (American Medical Association) as a possible citation style.
