How can we improve Primo?

  1. Increase the number of records allowed in the “View Online” tab

    Right now, only 25 records can be displayed under the “view online” tab in Primo. If this limit is increased, or removed entirely, libraries will have greater flexibility when creating collections. For example, we have 48 local portfolios that we linked to a single bib record, and we would like all of those portfolios to be displayed under the “view online” tab of that item. So, we propose removing the limit altogether, allowing libraries to decide how many records they want to appear under the “view online” tab.   2. Create shorter permalinks to records

    They are very long right now--would be useful to have shorter links to share with users!

  3. Adding a "requester note" in Primo for a patron when making a purchase request

    There is no possibility in Primo for a patron to add a note to explain why a they would like the library to purchase an item, when making a purchase request.

    However, In Alma there is a "requester note" where you can state the reason the patron has requested the item, but this cannot be done in Primo.

    So I suggest adding a requesters note in Primo, so the library will have more information as to why they should purchase an item for a patron.

  4. direct links to HTML/PDF content in brief display within search results

    For any provider that has direct links to HTML or PDF content, I believe that link should be somewhere in the brief display area right over the sendTo actions.

    With the Primo VE December 2021 release, we will release: quicklinks – From citation to pdf/html full text to allow your users to access the citation’s PDF / HTML full text , this will be available for list of providers that supports the quicklinks

  5. menu tile urls must be customizable by language

    Currently its not possible to define language specific URLs in the Backoffice for the main menu tile.
    Localization in Primo is possible for nearly all labels and functionalities and we think this is a must have.

  6. Add more citation styles to Primo VE

    Currently Primo offers the Chicago/Turabian style that is the student version of The Chicago Manual of Style. Please see the difference here: http://cmosshoptalk.com/2015/02/03/for-students-is-turabian-style-the-same-as-chicago-style/

  7. My Library Card - Personal Details ability to Disable Edit option

    Currently patrons can access the area

    My Library Card/Personal Details

    Where there is an option to edit their details (address, phone number etc).

    As our borrower details all come from corporate systems we would like to disable the edit function as, for example, students changing/updating any details such as their address should occur via the student record system not in Primo as a standalone action which will lead to confusion.
    In the old UI there was at least a tip on the edit page:
    "Changes to e-mail address and text message number will be reflected in Primo only."

  8. Configure option to display export to Leganto action for certain usergroup

    We do not allow students to create reading lists so the export to reading list action is redundant for most of our users. We would like for staff to see the icon when they are logged in to Primo but otherwise it should be hidden.

    We are closing this idea and would like to provide details on the “Reading List” option in Primo as exist todays.

    The “Reading list” action in Primo is available for both stuff members and students:
    - For stuff members there will be an option to select to which reading list they can add a citation
    - For a student there will be option to add a citation to his collection , we have recently change the text to make it more clear to the patrons that they can “click on the ‘Add to Reading List’ button to add a citation to their collection”

  9. Show My Account and Sign In without extra click and Show logged in user's name under Sign Out

    Hello,

    The California State University (CSU) system has developed custom angular js to Show My Account and Sign In without extra click and Show logged in user's name under Sign Out as the OTB functionality for the new Primo UI, forcing one to hover over the "Guest" label seems inadequate from a usability perspective.

    We would like to know if ExLibris can build-in this angular js functionality into the main source code for the new Primo UI, so the current, inadequate OTB functionality for signing into My Account can be addressed.

  12. Allow Main Menu Links to be Configurable on Primo Services Page in New UI

    We would like to be able to configure Main Menu Links on the Primo Services Page.

    When a patron lands on the services page, they should have the same Main Menu options as any other Primo page: New Search, Browse Search, EJournals, Citation Linker, etc.

    Unfortunately, these "Main Menu links in the New UI Services page were suppressed by design."

  13. New Search link in new Primo UI should unlock & reset sticky facets

    Can the new Primo UI be configured so all locked facets are unlocked and reset when the user clicks the “New Search”link on top of the new Primo UI toolbar?

    Since the locked facets are programmed to remain active for the session, even after clicking “New Search”, the user may receive unanticipated results, and/or a result set of “No Records Found” if the sticky facets don’t apply to the new search.

    For an example: A search on history narrowed to the subject of “History & Archaeology” with facets “Available in the Library” and NOT “Video” does a nice job of…

  14. Add next and previous arrows to detail display

    Instead of forcing the user to close the detail display to then click on the details of another record, the idea would be to add next and previous arrows or buttons to the detail display to allow the user to see the next or previous records details.

  15. Offer a select and "renew selected" option in Primo Loans tab

    Under the Primo 'Loans' tab, users currently have the ability the ability to renew individual titles, or "renew all". But they cannot select particular titles and renew only those.

    We have had several patrons complain about this lack of functionality as they only want to renew books when the original loan period requires them to (i.e. they don't want to renew early) so that they get the maximum loan periods allowed.

    A "renew selected" feature on the Primo Loans tab would improve the user experience.

  16. Citation Trail on the Brief display in Primo New UI

    Our users miss the Citation trail on the brief display in the New UI.

    eg "when researching a new subject one strategy is to look for articles that have a number of citations. This helps to find those articles that are cited a lot and so are especially significant within a domain and also allows a way to quickly expand reading to cover other relevant articles. Having the citations appear on the results list therefore helps to identify such articles without having to click through each one in turn, making searches more efficient.

  17. Session Timeout Warning

    It would be most helpful if a 'Session Timeout' warning could be displayed a certain amout of time before the session actually ends. Included in the warning could be the options to 'keep me logged in' or 'log out now'.

  18. Primo Central FRBR process specific to each customer's activations

    Currently, Primo Central performs the FRBR process on its entire index without considering the collections activated at the customer's level. Having FRBR at the level of the whole PC leads to often have in the catalogue a 'View all versions', even if in the PC of the Institution there is just 1 version of a record. Another consequence is also that Primo Central facets display unrelated results. In some cases, other records (from the FRBR group) may not appear, which does apply to the facet limitation, because they haven't been activated in the PC registration system.     Thanks for your contribution, we are happy to inform you that this idea is available in Primo Central starting from June 2017

  19. Improve Primo RTA status for items that are in transit, on order, in processing, missing, etc.

    Right now if an item is not available, then the item says "Checked out..." even if the item isn't actually checked out. In Alma, the status is under "Process type" and we want this more detailed "Process type" to be displayed to our users instead of just "Checked out.." for everything that isn't available. This is really confusing if the item is missing or being processed by our technical staff. We need to be able to tell users more detail. We have had several users request our library order a book and then when the book is being processed it…

    Thank you for this idea. It is now available in Primo VE, Primo VE now allows you to display enhanced availability statuses in the brief display, specifically for records with the availability status Not Available. With this enhancement Primo VE takes advantage of the platform while calculating the real time availability of records, enriching it with more information from the items level.

  20. Integrate the Alma Digital Viewer into the Primo UI

    I see a breaks in the user experience consistency with the Alma/Primo combination with the link to digital objects in Primo. The link is opening the Alma Digital Viewer and it's look and feel is totally different from the Primo UI. Primo is the interface to the customer. Please integrate the UI into Primo and let Alma manage the objects and the metadata.

    What my webmaster is missing and criticising on the Digital Viewer page:
    - it delivers the wrong favicon
    - link behind the Alma logo points to the actual Digital Viewer page
    - link behind the institutional logo…
