Item set to unavailable as soon as requested via Rapido
Currently, an item linked to a lending request is only set to unavailable after it has been shipped. When the lending request still has status Being processed, the linked item remains available.
Consequently, when several requests placed in a short time-frame on the same title are placed, the algorithm attributes all of them to the same lending library, while copies from other libraries are available.
If the item would be made unavailable as soon as it is requested, following requests would calculate different partners for which the items are available. Requests on the same title would then be better dispatched among Rapido members.
Upon review, I am updating this idea to already supported. If we are misunderstanding, we can reconnect on this topic.
The move request can be automatically enabled: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Rapido/Product_Documentation/02_Configuration#Associating_Pickup_Locations_with_Resource_Sharing_Members
Additionally, for item-level requests and title-level requests with only one item, Alma can be configured to mark the requested item as not available. The item being requested will be marked as Item not Availableand will have a Process status of Requested. In such cases, if you release or cancel the request, the item’s Statusbecomes Item in Place. I would like to strongly support this, as it is much more transparent for our customers and the idea of the network can work much better, as more free copies can be offered via Rapido.

The implementation of this idea would improve the effectiveness of Rapido and thus the service for our patrons.

We endorse this idea because it would make things easier and more transparent, for librarians and patrons alike and requests would be better distributed among participating libraries.

Dear ExLibris,
The important part of us: if there is a Rapido request, a following Rapido request should go to a different available item. This would ensure a better dispatch among the available items.
Thank you in advance, best regards,

We support this idea as this change would not only improve the fairness of request distribution but also enhance the overall effectiveness of the Rapido lending system.
