  1. Improvements to Scopus Citation Metric loading

In order to add Scopus Citation Metrics to Esploro assets, we currently have to create a list of DOIs, run the list through a script created by Mark Paris of Brandeis University, that script runs each doi through Scopus' API then outputs excel file(s) with the citation counts, we then upload the file(s) into Esploro following the method described in the Knowledge Base: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Esploro/Product_Documentation/Esploro_Online_Help_(English)/Working_with_the_Esploro_Research_Hub/010_Working_with_Research_Assets#Loading_Citation_Metrics

Script for harvesting citation metrics from Scopus: https://github.com/Brandeis-Library/esploroCitationUploads_Scopus

Unfortunately, Esploro has a hard limit of 999 citations per excel file. At present, we have 90,000 assets that we need citation metrics for. We ask that ExLibris…

In the January 2026 release there is a new API endpoint for loading Metrics. Will be able to match on MMS_ID, DOI, Web of Science ID, and Scopus ID.

  2. Make subtype display more prominently

The subtype field could make our existing asset types much more flexible if it displayed in the brief results (both in the portal and on profiles). We use it to clarify "other" and to add more specificity to an existing type, for example Statutory Drafting, Brief of Appellant, Documentary, and Audiobook. A facet is actually not a good solution (despite having previously suggested it and that being implemented) because it makes these minor subtypes appear very prominently for broad searches. (We turned on this feature when it was introduced and almost immediately turned it off). The real need is both…

  3. Option to make file upload required on researcher deposit form

Our institution requires that researchers upload an electronic copy of their work to add it to the repository. However, researchers often submit the deposit form without adding a file. In order to prevent this from happening and avoid having to return the deposit as incomplete, we would like the option to make file upload a required field in the researcher deposit form. See screenshot: https://app.screencast.com/UinpbBIjMkU7D.

  4. Esploro Analytics - eISSN and ISSN in separated fields in Esploro Analytics Analysis

In Esploro, a research asset record does provide 2 fields for eISSN and ISSN.
This useful distinction seems to be lost in Analytics, where ISSN single field contains both values, separated by semicolon, with no way to disambiguate between them.
The same happens with eISBN and ISBN.
Please keep Esploro Analytics consistent with Esploro and provide fields for eISSN, ISSN, eISBN, ISBN.
It's not only a matter of consistency and granularity. We are trying to make reports/simulation for ANVUR (National Evaluation of Researchers) and we need this distinction.

  6. Make researcher note viewable in more locations

The researcher note was added in Feb 2024. You can view it on the researcher record and in the SH queue on a match for an individual person. However, we need to see these notes (or the presence of these notes) in other places to assist with identifying the correct person.
    * When you are in an asset (including when in an asset doing smart harvest) - this could even be an indication of a note on a researcher card
    * When merging researchers - this could be an indication of a note on the search results for people
    *…

  7. allow researcher to edit an asset

Sometimes researchers find errors in assets that have already been approved (either assets that have come in through SmartHarvest or submitted by the researchers themselves). Rather than have them email an admin and request the edit, it would be more efficient if they could edit the asset and (re)submit it for re-approval.

  8. Remove multiple affiliations from an asset

When you select Manage Creators on an asset, you can Update selected author affiliations. However, you can not remove them. When there are many that are incorrect but there is not one thing to change them to, it would make things more efficient if we could also Remove selected author affiliations

Bulk deletion of assets from the Manage Creators/Contributors page was added in the November release. A "Select All" is planned for the February 2025 release.

  9. Ability to create a customise CV at the institution level

We'd like to be able to customise a CV template at the institution level so that we can choose the desired fields/assets/activities to export.
Additionally, we'd like to be able to change the labels of the sections on the CV. We found a labels table (CV Researcher Categories) but this doesn't seem to change the labels either in the Portal view or on the exported CV.

  10. Make more Asset Fields searchable in Esploro

Several important asset fields are missing in the Esploro search function. Some of these fields may be required filters when creating logical sets for ongoing OAI publishing and all of them would be extremely useful for Esploro users in daily operations. It would be great if asset fields in general were made searchable in the system, similar to the way Alma works. Most of the fields are searchable in Analytics but this is not really an alternative to direct searching in Esploro (e.g. when there is a need to create logical sets for the automated OAI publishing.) Please see below…

  11. Bulk Changes to Asset Authors

As the title says, we would like the ability to bulk edit authors. We have assets that have almost 3000 authors most of which are unaffiliated which we would like to remove. There currently is no mechanism to do this in a timely manner.

We understand that doing this via SmartHarvesting is difficult at best, but an PUT API or or some other process is possible.

The ones we are having the most trouble with are physics papers as we have member of ATLAS which has the aforementioned almost 3000 authors. Currently we have to remove the 'extra' names one…

  12. Orcid affiliation status available in analytics

We would like to be able to run a report of all our affiliated researchers and indicate which of them have affiliated their orcid.
This could be a yes/no flag similar to the "has access to researcher profile" field.

Currently, the only way we can get this detail is through the back-end by searching for researchers with Settings :
    Has established trust with ORCID

    Dear Colleagues,

This field and others have been added to our May 2023 release. It is now possible to analyze whether a researcher has added their ORCiD to their profile, established trust and whether you have run the Push to ORCiD job and for which outputs.

We hope you will find this useful,

    Na'ama

  13. Add Primary Identifier to Esploro Researcher analysis in Analytics

It will be very helpful to include an identifier field that can be used to match researchers with other campus systems. Currently researcher internal ID is the only identifier field available but this field in not available outside of Alma/Esploro. Please make Primary Identifier and/or primary email address available in Esploro Researchers analysis.

  14. Improve management of previously affiliated researchers

When a researcher leaves your institution, the only way to presently change their status from "Affiliated" to "Previously Affiliated" is to purge their user record from Alma.

However, there may be reasons for an institution to retain the user's record even though they are no longer an affiliated researcher. For example, the user may be an alumnus or emeritus who retains certain library privileges or has fines associated with their account.

As a result, institutions need a way to transition researchers to "Previously Affiliated" that doesn't require purging their user record.

One possibility would be to add a toggle to…

  15. Smart Harvest / Smart Expansion - Approval history required

We've noticed that once a Smart Harvest or Smart Expansion asset is approved, there is no record of which user account approved the asset.

For training and quality control purposes, we would like to know who has approved these assets. Please consider adding this function to assets that have been sourced via Smart Harvest and Smart Expansion.

We submitted this as a bug, but have been advised it is an enhancement request.

The status date and operator who approved has been added to the Smart harvesting subject area.  These fields also display in the author matching task list.

  16. Add the ability to Expand All research units

Research units are currently displayed only in hierarchical list. Therefore, to find a research unit, the user must know the organization's hierarchy. The enhancement idea is either a way to list all units in a browse A-Z, or, more simply, a button to expand-all hierarchy.

  17. Esploro datasets in Google Dataset Search

Making Esploro datasets discoverable in the Google Dataset Search is a high priority for positioning Esploro as a robust data repository solution. A prominent research program has deposited several of their datasets in Esploro. At a recent meeting, the PI indicated that not having their Esploro datasets discoverable in the Google Datasets Search was a significant disadvantage when compared to other data repositories like PANGAEA.

Schema.org tags are required for inclusion in Google Datasets, these tags should be added to Esploro assets.

  18. Allow researchers to manage notification preferences

Currently, only library staff can subscribe or unsubscribe researchers from Esploro notifications. Researchers must contact the library and library staff must update their notification settings in their researcher record. This workflow is inefficient for both parties. To save time and effort, researchers should be able to manage their notification preferences directly from their researcher profile without library intervention.

  19. Show "view online" link resolver links regardless of other links

The view online option of link resolver only displays when there are no other links or files attached to an asset. Our procedure is to always add a link to the published version of the record, therefore the link resolver never displays.

We would like to have the option to display link resolver links even if there is already a link in the record. This would ensure our staff and students could still access the resource if we have a full text subscription AND visitors to the portal could link to the published version.

In 2020 when we were launching…

  20. Add WOS id as part of Smart Harvest / Smart Expansion

Now that we can display WOS citation counts, we need to find a way to update all our records with the WOS id. For this we are planning to export, match via DOI, and reimport. Moving forward it would be ideal if the WOS id is added to the asset at the time of Smart Harvesting / expansion.
