How can we improve RefWorks?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  2. Be able to restructure folders more easily

    Currently, folder structure is set once created and cannot be modified without recreating and deleting folders. It would be great to be able to click and drag folders so that if we decided to make one folder into a subfolder, or make a subfolder into a main folder, we could click and drag it in/ out without having to create a new folder structure, move/ reassign all the references over, and then delete the previous folder structure.

  4. Provide administrator the ability to make and edit "Role" and "Institution" options.

    Currently, administrator can not make and edit options for "Role" and "Institutions" which is selected when user create their accounts. This makes it inconvenient for administrator to manage their user and usage stats.

  5. unable to catch press releases and no option to manually enter details about lectures.

    Refworks should support entering press releases and lecture notes when entered manually.

  7. Importing from Legacy RefWorks doesn't organize them by their orignal folder. I have 171 references that are just dumped into my library.

    Let me import my FOLDERS from legacy refworks.

  8. Put in a duplicate/copy folder option

    In order to show progression of research it would be much easier if you could make a copy of a folder and then continue processing this new copy to maintain a record

  9. Attachments stall, never completely finish

    Many users have noticed that when PDF attachments are uploaded, they take a very long time in the processing/uploading phase, and sometimes the progress bar stalls at 50% and never finishes.

  10. Allow users to link their ProQuest MyResearch account to New RefWorks

    At the moment, you can only link the two if you have an account in the old RefWorks.

    I am happy to update that this has been completed. MyResearch users who have a (new) RefWorks account can link their accounts.   12. A new reference type for standards

    Could you create a new reference type for standards? There isn't a ready-made option for this. It seems that it isn't possible to rename existing reference types.

  14. Please make the record count on the shared folders display the same record number to all users

    Currently the record count only shows the number of citations added by that user on the shared folders. A shared folder shows "0" if I've added nothing, but might contain 50 items. It would be useful for all on a shared folder to see the same count.

  15. RefWorks API documentation

    We urgently need to see the API documentation for ProQuest RefWorks so that we can create our own export function for our library catalogue (Koha).

    The 'Save to RefWorks' button does not work for Koha so we have no option other than to create our own embedded export feature. Our developers cannot do this without the API documentation.

  16. Remove shared folder access codes

    We've noticed that when a user shares a folder, the link that the recipient receives generates a screen that asks for an access code if they are not already logged into RefWorks.

    We can see that there is a login link in the top banner but most of our users will miss this.

    Is it possible to have the usual login options (e-mail address and institutional login) in the main screen?

  17. Search option for document in google doc tool by Ref ID

    In word tool as well as in google doc tool if I want to cite the reference using Ref ID search (which is good new idea) but not able to do it. So not useful due to this limitation.

  18. Save to Refworks button is not functional

    The save to refworks button for chrome is not functional. About 90% of the time when I try to use it and input all the information, the loading bar goes and goes (Uploading 1 of 1.......) and eventually after about a minute it says it was unable to import anything (We're sorry, we were unable to save to RefWorks. We tried, but came up empty.) So frustrating. As said before, this service is great, but quite a few basic functionalities are from from actually functioning properly. These need to be fixed.   19. Have the option to input n.d. for an undated article

    When trying to put n.d. into the "date" section of a reference, it just seems to think it is an incorrect input/date and will not allow for this. However, in the real world, quite a few sources from time to time are undated, and this puts a crimp in everything when you cannot put n.d. per APA format. Please add this functionality to either input our own term of n.d. or to select that the source is undated so it can be automatically entered into the reference. Thank you.

  20. Move normal view, table view etc to menu bar to make it more visible

    The option to change view from Normal to table and especially citation view is really useful, but it is hidden bottom right on the page. Please can it be added to the menu bar?
