How can we improve Summon?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. API HEAL-Link database Direct ingtestion in Summon

    The customer University of Aristotle in Greece, needs an API which make direct ingestion for Heal -Link database. This database is importante for Aristotle.
    The customer knows this database is ingested and updated automatically into EDS

  2. Allow full replacement marc uploads without having to approve the load in the content ingestion interface.

    Allowing for full marc record loads without additional approval in the admin interface would decrease the number of steps needed for libraries who wish to always do full marc record replacements. It would also make record upload automation possible through custom scripting or services such as Innovative Interface's Scheduler.

  4. DB recommender - html formatting

    We would like to be able to apply HTML formatting in the "database's description" field.
    For the moment, it doesn't recognise the tags unlike the public database note field.
    Furthermore, we would like to see the "public database note" displayed in the Database recommender.

  5. Support IPv6

    Our Institution just added a few IPv6 addresses and will expect more in future, we hope Summon can support IPv6 so that our patrons can be authorized by Summon via IPV6 addresses.

  6. Improvements to manage larger sets of volatile Best Bets

    To manage Best Bets more rigourously I would offer this additional functionality:
    a) Export all current best bets to Excel (Much simpler to manage and check for currency outside of admin interface)

    b) Provide a way to mark all existing Best Bets for deletion with one click so that the updated spreadsheet (from point a) can be imported to Summon without requiring every existing Best Bet to marked for deletion to prevent duplications.

  7. Initiate Best Bets from the Resource.

    It would be simpler to add a check-box for Best Bet and text box to insert the description to the resource activation, than to enter that same information separately. Also, the Best Bet would then use the same version of the URL that the link resolver uses, and it would be updated when that URL changes in the Knowledge base.

  8. Would love to be able to change the order of the content types on the left sidebar of the results page

    Instead of content type facet displaying the content types with the highest number of results, make it customizable so admin. can decide which ones show (and in which order) in the abbreviated list.

  9. Be able to limit bX Recommendations to fulltext holdings in your library to avoid too many "not available" results

    Smaller academic libraries like community colleges will not have a lot of the recommendations suggested by bX Recommender, leading to too many "not available" results for students. For big university libraries who subscribe to 10 times the amount of content, this won't be an issues. For us smaller folks, it would be nice if we could limit bX recommendations to our own fulltext holdings so students would get usable results most or all of the time. bX recommender is otherwise a great tool for even the student who is new to college.

  10. Add language translation export/import tool to Summon, 360 Link

    Often translations are incomplete in non-english languages. A facility to export/import translated terms would allow us to easily send text files (XLS) to translators and import into other Summon instances. Allow us to see translated text used by other Summon users. eg. sharing these files across the user community would save a lot of work. Flagging new items added between releases would also help.

  11. Ability to add Google Tag Manager information instead of Google Analytics

    Google Tag Manager is a Google Analytics toolf ro managing multiple tags for a single page or site. The ability to add the Google Tag Manager to the institution's site via the admin console.
