How can we improve Leganto?

  1. Leganto Analytics - add functionality to identify rolled over reading lists

    At UNSW we encourage academics to use the Leganto Instructor Rollover feature. We need to report on percentage of reading lists that have been rolled over for each of the terms. This information would help us to track how our reading lists are re-used, and understand the impact of this functionality.

  2. Be able to configure visibility of "Upcoming Due Dates"

    Allow for an option to make "Upcoming Due Dates" to be visible or hidden depending on the needs of the institution. This seems to be visible by default.

  3. Allow resource_locate_multiple_matches and resource_locate_multiple_matches_priority to take effect when locating single citation in Alma

    When resource locate is run on a single citation, Alma will only locate it if a single match is found; if there are no matches or multiple matches then the resource locate will fail and the citation's status will change to declined.

    The resource locate multiple match priority settings, which we use to prioritise electronic inventory, currently only apply when running resource locate in bulk using the Process and Enrich citations in Bulk job or when citations are added in Leganto by instructors. It does not apply when running resource locate on a single citation in Alma i.e. as happens…

  4. Ability to add items from COLLECTIONS to LISTS.

    Right now, there isn't a direct way to add items from Collections to list sections, although you can add from List to Collection. I am not sure why, but it would be great if we can use the Collections section as a canvas, as my wonderful colleague Jane suggested, so there is flow between Lists<-->Collections. Ideally, it would be awesome if there was an option to do this with batch selection (having the ability to select multiple items with the tick box option as it is the case in Collection--see images).

  5. Leganto: Have a Reference displayed for the resource in the style required eg APA7th

    There was a comment from an academic saying when their readings were in the Learning Management System they had the correct APA referencing style demonstrated, with the link to the reading – so students could see the correct format. And the academic was disappointed that the Leganto list didn’t demonstrate the referencing in the correct style. So we would propose that under the title of the resource in the Leganto list, the reference for the resource would be listed in APA6 (or probably APA7 now) format.     After evaluation, we have decided not to do this development. The main reason is that Leganto citations do not always cleanly map to specific citation formats, largely because we do not hold the author first and last name in separate fields. We do not want to have the list in improperly formatted citations which cannot be easily fixed by the instructor.

  6. Warnings when marking citations and lists complete when there are any pending statuses

    If any citations are marked as being prepared, In process or ready for processing include a warning if the list status is being marked as complete.

    If a copyright status is waiting for approval add a warning if citation status is being marked as complete.

  8. Add a Session Timeout URL config in Legnato

    Add an option in Leganto configuration where we can specify a "Session Timeout URL" so it is not just dependent on Alma settings. This variable is available in Primo. Since this is a student facing interface, it would be good to be able to configure this feature.

  9. Leganto labels to support HTML tags

    Currently only the text of labels in Leganto can be customised and HTML tags are not supported. This limits the usefulness for customisation, particularly for including hyperlinks in the labels.

    For example, we have just updated the list.notavailable and list.primo.notavailable labels to include a link to a form which students can fill in to request that a list be created for their course, however we have had to add text advising the student to copy and paste the link as we are not able to add a hyperlink using HTML. The usability is therefore not as efficient for students.

  10. Improve the Notification Type table in Alma

    The Notification type table can be displayed in different languages in Alma. However, after translating it, we realized it was not possible to upload a file with all the translations. We had to add each label manually.

    Another issue we encountered is that we were not able to distribute the table from our "Alma Network" instance to all the institutions in the consortium, which we do for examples with the label tables.

    Both these issue make it impossible for us to implement the translations for each institution as it would require too much work.

  11. Improvment suggestions for the Bag it function

    Hi,
    Several of our institutions have chosen to hide the Bag It! Function in the option menu. They agree it’s a nice concept, but the drawbacks described under led to that decision:

    • The citations in Bag it disappear when logging out, which comes as a surprise for many instructors. In some cases, they put a lot of work in making the Bag it list.
    • Users cannot sort the list according to different criteria, which doesn’t make this tool very practical.
    • Users cannot move citations over to “My collection”. Not a must, but nice to have.

    The new UI does not have the Bag it/Clipboard function. Instead, users can select items in bulk and use bulk actions. Closing this idea as no longer relevant

  12. Button to change a citations status on the individual citation

    Button to select citation status on individual citation so don't have to tick the box and scroll to the top to change the citation to declined, in process etc.

  15. Enable translation of reading list texts

    The Leganto UI supports multiple languages, which is very helpful. It is however not possible to translate individual texts of reading lists, such as their titles, into different languages.

    Please enable the following:

    1. A way to easily input in multiple (at least two) languages a) reading list titles, b) section names, c) citation public notes, d) section notes, and e) possibly other such reading list related texts that are not part of the bibliographic metadata.

    2. That the relevant translated text (as per above) be displayed depending on what language the user has selected for the UI in the Leganto language…

    We will not provide the option to translate the text within the reading list. Adding translation for the fields in the list and citation adds a significant amount of complexity from a data perspective, and also complexity for list builders.

  16. Material Visibility Start and End Dates on Rollover Inherit New Course Start and End Dates

    Adding material visibility start and end dates for uploaded files requires clicking in and out of every citation on the list which has an uploaded file, and then clicking 4 or 5 times further to advance the calendar to the end of the semester for each citation's material visibility end date. This request is asking for the rollover process, both for instructor and course loader rollover, to include the option to assign new material visibility start and end dates to any citations on the list which have a material visibility date at the time of rollover, and the new course…

  17. Lookup pricing and availability of books at online bookstores and display to patrons

    Ability to lookup pricing and availability of books using online bookstores' REST APIs and display to students and instructors, with links, in the Additional Services section of the full citation display. So not just links that might not work using "general electronic service", but more like "Check Availability and Pricing" in Alma. Not just for Amazon, it needs to be possible for an institution to select their preferred partner(s) and configure their affiliate ID or other parameters in the API requests.

  18. List Publishing - allow Publish button (from Sept 29 release) to be a Publish/Unpublish toggle)

    It would be useful if the September 2019 option to display a Publish button in a list was actually a Toggle between Publish and Unpublish (or Draft).

    Currently it is a little confusing (as it was before the Publish button was added as an option) to have the publish button appear, but once clicked, it disappears into the List menu as an 'Unpublish' option.

    This is confusing to Instructors as it is not immediately apparent what has happened to the publish…

  19. Improve Citations search (Alma workflows) e.g. include Journal title (and chapter title?)

    Hi,

    Staff find that the Citations search functionality in Alma/Course Reserves is not as effective as it could be for finding updates as the indexes which can be chosen do not cover sufficient citation metadata fields to allow for the most common searches to be supported.

    Currently the search options are:
    Citation ID
    Course Code
    Course Name
    Creator
    ISBN
    ISSN
    MMS ID
    Reading List Name
    Title

    However it is frequently the case when looking to update/correct citations that a Journal title would need to be searched, and unfortunately Title does not cover this aspect of the citation metadata when the…

  20. Overview of readings lists in a study program

    Leganto gives the possibility to
    - link to a specific course (and display the list(s) associated to this course)
    - get an overview of all the reading lists belonging to a specific academic departments, through their course association

    The missing link in between is the association of a smaller number of courses, belonging to the same academic department or not:
    the study program.

    Librarians and instructors could associate courses to a study program as easily as they can associate a list to a course.
    Students could search for a program in the find list interface.

    After further researching and evaluating this idea we have determined that it requires significant changes to the data architecture of the system which makes it a very risky development. We have not been able to come up with a workaround to adequately implement the idea in another way and we are therefore closing the idea.
