Permalinks as real persistent URI's for digital objects
Add an option to present permalinks for digital objects as real system independent permanent identifier URI's to the digital object itself.
The term "permalink" is misleading. Current permalinks are not persistent links. They link to Primo records and they only work as long as the institution offers Primo. And then Primo BO permalinks do not work for Primo VE, if the library did not use Alma before.
For digital objects, the users are really only interested in the links to the actual object. So it would be better if permalinks would use existing persistent identifier URI's, like DOI's (available for most articles in Central Index), Handles (if available in local Alma records), etc. For local Alma and external datasource records it should be possible to configure the field to get the persistent URI is stored in.
