  1. Remove 246 $a from title matching

When fuzzy and extended fuzzy tests for title matches, they include 246 $a. This allows too many mismatches. When testing for title matches, match should not evaluate on 246 $a at all. For example, the current routine considers these two titles a match (due to 246 $a), even though they are in different languages (both have Plato as an author), have different ISBN, publishers, etc.:

Title: Ion, oder, Über die Ilias
Published: Göttingen ; Bristol, CT, U.S.A. : Vandenhoeck et Ruprecht, [2017]

    Title: Ion.
Published: Paris, Les Belles Lettres, 2018.

    Thank you for the idea.
Extended Fuzzy Serial Match Method now supports the same functionality as the Extended Fuzzy Serial Match Method, except that when matching against the title, this profiles matches only by 245 a,b,k,n,p and not by 245 a,b,k,n,p, 245 a, 210 a, 246 a.

  2. list more than 20 items on screen

I want to be able to have all items in a record on one screen, not 20 items split up on separate pages. For a number of reasons, one being:
When creating a set when I click "select all" it only actually selects the first 20 items. If I want to actually add all items in the record I have to go back and forth adding them 20 at a time.

  3. Allow reactivation of withdrawn items

It would be very useful to be able to easily reactivate/reinstate withdrawn items. For example, an item that has been made missing, not found, and deleted may turn up later. This is happening more frequently as we are carrying out large scale stock projects, and will increase when we begin regular stock taking.

Ideally when a deleted item is returned or scanned in a message box would alert the user:

"This item was withdrawn on dd/mm/yyyy.

Would you like to reactivate it?

    Proceed/Cancel"

  4. Include MMS ID in Excel output from Manage Sets Results pages

The MMS ID is essential information when dealing with spreadsheets of records, and yet it is missing from Excel output of lists of sets and search results. Please include the MMS ID in all output Excel spreadsheets of Repository records.

  5. Add to General Publishing profile the ability to include holdings details for related inventory

We have large numbers of "bound with" titles e.g. pamphlets. These have MARC Bibliographic records but no Holdings or Items - they are linked to the parent volume, which has the Holdings and Inventory information. When the "bound with" records are published using a General Publishing profile, the Holdings information is not added from the related (parent) record, and the records appear to have no Holdings. We would like the option to include Holdings and Items for Related records in these cases, so that the library and location of the title can be included in the published records.

Related records can now be republished to external systems, so that the external catalog has a full representation of the catalog and inventory of your library. You can include the related record information (bibliographic and physical inventory). If the institution is part of a consortium, then when publishing bibliographic records from the Network Zone to an external system, the related records information can also be published to the external system.

  7. Creating itemized sets using file upload and OCLC numbers

Currently, when we create an itemized set by file upload (also known as "Adding Itemized Sets"), the file upload option only includes MMS ID, PID, Barcode, Item ID, Portfolio ID, or PO line reference. If I have a file of MARC records from OCLC or another vendor, it would be nice to run the OCLC numbers through Alma to see how many titles are currently in Alma. At this point in the process, we don't have an MMS ID. If we could use a list of OCLC numbers, this would allow us to create a set of records based on…

  8. Better way to easily identify suppressed bib & holdings records

Currently, it is not possible to quickly identify suppressed holdings records. It is not unusual to have an unsuppressed bib, with one or more suppressed holdings. Would it be possible to place use an icon next to the holdings records on repository search results (similar to what is used for suppressed bibs), or, to use different color coding of the background and/or text? At the very least, the MARC simple view should indicate a holdings record is suppressed, either with wording, an icon, or a color differentiation. (Color differentiation was introduced into Voyager several years ago, and it worked great.)…

  9. Allow user to specify number of items to display (and select) per page

Currently, only 20 items may be displayed and selected at a time. Most commercial websites offer a widget that allows the user to specify display of, for example, 25, 50, 100, or "all" matches when searching. (The widget option would be useful for other search types as well, but I'm concerned primarily with items here.) Adding such an option in Alma would be welcomed. Displays could still default to 20 per screen, but allow the user to display more on a single screen if desired.

The current limit has a serious impact on our productivity when units are transferring large…

As of November release you can now select the number of results appearing on any list of results (previously, only a few lists had this feature). For some lists, the range is between 10 and 50 results. For other lists, it is between 20 and 100 results.

  10. Allow Alma phrase searching using quotation marks in quick search box

Our catalogers use the quick search box on the Alma homepage to do keyword searches for titles in our collection. Recently we discovered that using quotation marks around a phrase does not successfully keep the words together as a phrase in the search. The only way to search for a phrase is to use the Advanced Search, and change "Contains keywords" to "Contains phrase". This is very time consuming.

As of January release Alma will support phrase search in the simple search box. All entities and index types that have the option to use phrase search in Alma’s advanced search also have this capability with simple search when using double quotation marks to identify the phrase.

  11. Add more times to scheduled weekly bibliographic import jobs

When running import jobs on a schedule Alma only gives us one weekly option (Saturdays at 3:00 a.m.). OCLC WorldShare generally posts new, delete and updated files on Saturday mornings in the early a.m., although not always by 3:00 a.m.
Since it doesn't make sense to run these import jobs daily since record sets are only delivered weekly, we have them set up to run at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday (the only weekly option that Alma gives us). This causes the following problems:

    1) Files of deleted records are loaded concurrently with files of new records for the same collections…

  12. "Select All" checkbox for In Process Items

When changing the status of In Process Items there is no “Select All” box at the head of the column, often there are multiple copies and we want to apply the same status change to all the items on the list.

Instead of having to check the box next to each item in a list we would like to suggest that on this page (and other pages where applicable) that a “Select All” checkbox* be added.

*as is the case on some lists such as “Patron Loans” and “List of Items”.

  13. In advanced Repository Search, allow the selection of multiple physical locations. within a library.

In Advanced Search, we currently can search multiple locations only by selecting one, going back, selecting another, going back, and selecting another. Allowing the selection of multiple locations from a list would save time.

  14. Better control over processing order in import profiles

When importing records it would be really useful to have an option to control the order of the processing steps involved in the import, and maybe to add additional processing steps.

We have two use cases where the current order has not worked out for us:

    • When importing records with EOD, the EOD will be created from the original record rather than the normalized record. This was a special use case, where a change in the originating system prevented EOD to be embedded in a correct way. Had we been able to process the records with normalization rules we could…

  17. Batch searching in the repository and set creation

It would be extremely helpful if batch searching functionality can be added in the repository search. We have many projects where we have external data from an outside source that we need to find the matching data in our ILS, now Alma. For example, we are a member of a local consortium where we have several hundred oclc master records that all of us in the consortium need to manipulate in our own local ILSs. Instead of conducting one search at a time for these OCLC master record numbers, we would like to do a batch search of these master…

  18. Freeze navigation and tabs in Ama search results view

Currently in a list of search results, when viewing records in a list below what appears on the first screen, we have to scroll back up to the first screen of results to navigate, enter an new search, etc. If the navigation sidebar, tabs, search boxes, etc. were frozen when scrolling, similar to Excel, it would save searchers time.

  19. Metadata editor: LDR form opens automatically

With the November 2023 release, we noticed a change in the metadata editor.
With the configuration "forced form editing" activated, whenever a record is pushed to the metadata editor, the LDR form is opened automatically and this is irritating, since cataloguers do not necessarily want to start working on the LDR, and the display of the form takes up a lot of screen space. Moreover, the LDR form opens again when saving the record.
We would like to suggest the following adjustments:
    - the LDR form is not automatically opened when entering a record
    - the LDR form is not…

Even when a record has 250 subfields a and b, Alma brief results display only subfield $$a with a slash in the Edition field. Alma should also display subfields b according to the MARC21 standard:
