Change Holdings area to match Items
Editing Holdings requires knowing all of the codes for your institution's locations and libraries. If the Holdings area were more like the Items area then the choices for locations and libraries would be on pull down menus. A History tab similar to the one on the Items screen would also be helpful.

Asterisk search with special character in Alma
Currently, Asterisk search with special character in Alma is not supported in ALma.
It would be very useful if Asterisk search with special character is supported in Alma Search.
For example, for cataloging work, Asterisk search of call number can helps librarian to determine if there is an duplicate call number. Also it can help to determine the call number following up.
But for call numbers that contains special characters, the Asterisk search is not supported and can not work as expected.16 votesHello All,

Automatic Designated Copy ID Number Added to New Item Records
I would like the ability to set an automatic copy ID number to designate that the item is a copy "1," instead of having to put the "1" in the copy ID field every time I add an item. Of course I would also need to have the ability to easily change the automatic "1" another copy ID number if I have a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Voyager had this ability, which saves time when processing a large number of books. Click through multiple item records to view and edit
When multiple items are attached to a single holdings record, currently there does not appear to be a way to click directly from one item to the next. Instead, we must click out of each item record viewed, go back to the list, and click into an new one. Having the ability to click directly through the list would help greatly when we need to check through the items for consistency in a field, for example. Include an item's total number of checkouts within the item record or physical item editor
There doesn't seem to be a way to view the number of times a item has been checked out, aside from going in the item history and manually counting every transaction. Frequency of use is an important data point for catalog curation and maintenance.

Physical titles results-- option to Sort by call number
Currently, a Physical titles search by call number does NOT give us the option to Sort by call number. In order to sort by call number, we have to do a Physical items search. Having the option to sort by call number (Asc or Desc) would be extremely useful. The display options for Physical titles vs. Physical items are different. If your primary search for most projects is by Physical titles, it is problematic not to have a sort option by Permanent call number.

Add process type to physical item mapping in import profile
Since we do our own physical processing of new materials, we would like to be able to set the process type to "in process" automatically during batch import. Currently we have to edit each item record after import to set the process type.
The physical item mapping section of the inventory information tab should allow mapping the process type to a MARC field and subfield, like it does for other item data.

Add a new Analytics element Call number prefix
It's found that there is currently not the element Call number prefix in Design Analytics. But in our library, we use call number prefix to identify different shelving locations. Change Chronology J numerical values into names of months or seasons in Description field in Physical Item Editor
For the purpose of sorting months in Chronology J, we have to put numerical values in it, for example 05 for May. However, when we generate the Description, 05 would remain 05, so the description would be: v.12 no.5(2019:05). This is printed onto our label for the students to read. It would be better if Alma can automatically convert the numbers into words in the Description field, e.g. v.12 no.5 (2019:May) through the Generate button. Improve 008 field facet for Pulbication Year
Currently, Alma only acknowledges the first 4 digits after the 6th position as "Publication Year".
The MARC21 standard has a much more in depth system, and Alma facets should account for the following features.1.- Alma currently only recognizes numbers, but in the MARC21 standard the letter 'u' is established as an unknown/wild card.
For instance, 19uu should be recognized as 1900 or 19??. 182u = 182?, 1uuu = 1??? and so on.2.- The 6th position letter defines how many specific years and what those years mean, up to 2 different years.

Prevent duplicate storage location IDs
When you duplicate a physical item, the copy ID and inventory number and barcode are treated as unique and therefore not duplicated. We would like a configuration setting to treat the storage location ID as unique as well. Staff often duplicate existing items when adding new items since many of the fields are the same, but they sometimes forget to delete the storage ID when duplicating. Our storage management uses unique IDs like a barcode and these duplicates cause problems.

Since Resources>>Create Inventory>>Add Physical Item has been adapted for use in scenarios where additional cataloging is neither required nor desired (e.g. brief bibs for equipment), it would be nice to include a tick box (similar to the Suppress from Discovery) to indicate that additional cataloging is required. Temporary Location should include Temporary Item Policy
When we pull a volume from the Stacks and put it on the Reserves shelves, we want to change the Item Policy from the Stacks default to a much shorter loan period. When we restore the item to the Stacks we want to restore the Item Policy to what it was. As it is, we have to know what the former policy was for each item and break a large batch of items coming off reserve into multiple files for each Item Policy that is wanted.

When Managing In Process Items ability to sort list of items into shelf order
When managing in process items in a work order department we may want to take a device with this list to a shelf of items in call number order e.g. damaged items shelved in call number order or theses ready to be shipped for digitisation. Call number is available as a field, but it's not possible to sort by it (ideally we'd want to sort by normalised call number.

Include item creation date in the advanced search options for item records
We have been trying to monitor progress in retrospective cataloguing projects using the advanced search, but run into some problems with options for searching in item records.
We can quite accurately produce sets for items which were last updated within a given date range, but this isn't really fit for purpose. If a cataloguer makes a correction or re-saves at a later date then this will exclude it from retrospective counts, say for the previous month or year.
Having the option to search on item record creation date would provide a much more accurate tool for reporting on work done…

It would be great to alter the material type of items whilst they item is still on loan, so that an item with a material type of "none" could become a book.

Allow user to specify "Do not pick from shelf" when using the Add Physical Item workflow
When you create an item for loan as part of the circulation desk workflow (via Fulfillment > Manage Patron Services > Create Item and choosing New), an Acquisition Technical Services work order is created, and Alma assumes (correctly) that the item is in hand.
When you use the manual item creation process (via Resources > Add Physical Item and choosing New), Alma creates a work order without asking if the item is in hand, and assumes (incorrectly) that the item needs to be picked from the shelf.

Relocate "Change temporary location information" in the "Change physical items" job
We run "Change physical items" job every day. At present, the"Change temporary location information" section is in the middle of the task parameters page.
