  1. Easier Removal from Large Itemized Sets

It would be helpful to be able to search within itemized sets and then remove undesired items in those search results. Right now the only way to find an item to remove from an itemized set is to browse through the set which can be unwieldy for large sets.

This search functionality (by title, ISSN and ISBN) already exists in other areas of Alma such as displaying a portfolio list for an electronic collection.

  2. Making it possible to use both arrow sign (←, →) as characters and Alma's directional character function.

When we configure [Alma configration > Resources > General > Other settings > enabledirectionalcharacters > true], "←" and "→" can't be entered in the MDE.

Also, if opening migrated records which include "→", all the "→" are deleted like the example below.

    Example)
    Before

It takes time if we modify these records and also we can't follow cataloging standard ("→" sometimes includes in a title etc. of a material).…

We have 7 pages of sets, but there are two I frequently need to view so I can work with the members of the set. It would be great if there was a way for me to mark them as a favorite so I don't have to keep scrolling through looking for them each time.

  5. Support for browsing, sorting and display by LC classification/call number, regardless of format

I think Alma/Primo should strive to replicate a genuine browsing experience of the stacks as a feature. That functionality adds value to librarians and libraries (we can do things Google can't) and value to titles themselves, because they appear to users in a disciplinary content, part of a visible collection not just part of an aggregation / repository of searchable content.

Better system support for integrated shelf list of print and electronic resources and browsing virtual stacks would be a win/win. It would help librarians maintain strong visible collections (we need the information too) and would help our online users…

  6. Collection Discovery should support Bookshelf (Shelf List) Browse

Collection Discovery is a nice feature in Alma, but it would be much better if it could be a virtual bookshelf browse tool of new titles in user defined disciplines.

Currently, Collection Managers can create collections of titles based on titles sets or title by title additions, but titles within these collections are displayed to users in random order, not as a meaningful collections, and with limited bibliographic information appearing.

The random arrangement is not pleasing, especially in an academic research setting. It would also be ideal to have the ability to be able to harvest out new titles to…

  7. Search External Resources - Review Existing Ideas & Redesign Z39.50 Search & Refine Options

I have just checked out the search and refine options available via the Jisc Cataloguing Hub Web interface. It allows a much richer search experience than accessing the same data via the Z39.50 interface via Alma Search External Resources. As colleagues have posted a number of ideas around reviewing and enhancing the search options would it be possible to combine these ideas and carry out a general review of how we can search and refine the results?
I attach a screenshot showing the options in the Cataloguing Hub.

  8. Add Publisher attribute to Search External Resources

We would like to be able to search the Japanese academic common catalog (NACSIS) by Publisher name in Search External Resources, but the corresponding use attribute (1018) is not currently supported. This would be very useful when searching by title or keywords, to differentiate between similar results. We think that this addition would be useful with other external resources too.

  9. Allow Course Loader integration to process files from users' local drives

With the current bulk operations functionality for courses (course loader), an SFTP server is required for hosting files.

The SFTP requirement is a hurdle for many libraries, as it requires additional infrastructure (SFTP host), as well as additional knowledge (FTP user tools) not always available on staff.

We would like to see the ability to upload course loader files for import from a local drive, similarly to how other workflows in Alma also support local file processing (portfolio loader, etc).

  11. Untraced references showing as valid subject headings

Authority records with 008/09 of "b" shouldn't be showing as authorized headings. These are untraced references not authorized headings. (I found this on the record with LCCN sh 85038380)

    Form https://www.loc.gov/marc/authority/ad008.html :
    b - Untraced reference
100-15X field contains an unestablished heading that is not authorized for use as the element in an access point in a bibliographic record. The heading is not traced as a 4XX See From Tracing field in any other authority record. The reference record contains a Complex See Reference (260) or a General Explanatory Reference (666) field to guide the user to established heading(s).

  13. Allow "not" in subject authorities searches

It would be helpful to be able to include NOT in subject authority searches. This would be particularly helpful when eliminating terms containing certain subdivisions.

For example, I searched the keywords "children" and "religious" and I know that I don't want anything with the subdivisions "religious life" or "religious aspects", so being able to add NOT "life" or "aspects" would narrow my results down to something more manageable than the 150ish that I got.

  14. Allow Libraries to Set Default Action for Deleting Bib Records

Currently, the default action for handling a bib record when deleting the associated item/portfolio is set to "Do Nothing." In our library, we almost universally choose to delete the bib record, which means it takes two extra clicks to perform each delete operation. Could this setting be made configurable so that a library could choose which operation to set as the default, without losing the choice of other options in the dropdown? Two extra clicks per record adds up to a lot of time when deleting large numbers of records!

  15. Stop the dot from jumping

Put some kind of lock/unlock button on the little dot that controls the screen size for alerts in the MD Editor, to stop it from "jumping up" and resizing the screen, when trying to edit in the bib records and the holdings records. It is very annoying and takes far to much time trying to control the size of the screen, instead of doing the work that needs to get done.

There is a job to delete all vendor 856 fields but many records have both valid for me and invalid for me 856 fields. 18. Publication Year facet values

When you do title searches in Alma, you can narrow the results with the Publication Year facet. But the date range values Alma returns for that facet are arbitrary looking, unpredictable, and bear no obvious relationship to the result set. And if you then select any of the returned multi-year values, Alma will break it down into more granular--but still arbitrary--ranges.

I suggest that Alma return initial values grouped by decade (e.g., 1910-1919, 1920-1929) and then expand those into individual years (e.g., 1910, 1911, 1912...). This is also basically arbitrary, but at least it would be familiar and consistent across…

There is a re-occurring indexing error in Alma when withdrawing items, where these items sometimes do not disappear from the Alma instance and a re-indexing job must be performed to correct it. These items often cannot be re-activated from "Manage deleted repository" and can't be interacted with. (See attachment)
