← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

    Hello,

    The provider responded that there are no associated ISBNs with the collections, so they cannot make it into a title list. 

    They suggested you should send feedback to T&F to address the discovery issue.

    As a result, we will have to keep it as a zero-title database.

    Hello,

    We discussed this with the provider, and Newsbank's sales model does not allow to sustainably monitor and track such a request.

    Each customer has different holdings and interfaces, making a single collection unsuitable for all.

    You can use NEWSBANK_SINGLE_TITLES_ARCHIVE_COLLECTION which allows you to choose your own archive and modify coverage dates according to your agreement with Newsbank.

    I see these yearly collections in Alma, but 2020 is missing. It should have 2 portfolios, Vol. 103-104

    If you have an option to raise this with them, that would be helpful as currently we cannot obtain a title list for such a collection.

    Hi,

    Any issues with updates of existing collections should be addressed via a support ticket in Salesforce.

    There is a collection called "Chronicle of Higher Education" (DBID: DBV) and this request should be regarding adding a new portfolio to an existing collection.

    I apologize for this inconvenience, but opening a case would be the best way to investigate the delayed update to this collection.

  9. Enrich HathiTrust CDI Records

    Hello,

    Could Ex Libris please work with HathiTrust to enrich the records in their various CDI collections (including DBID: J3O)?

    The records are currently very brief and lack subject headings, tables of contents, abstracts, etc.

    We were recently informed that Hathi trust halted the development of their MARC feed for Ex Libris until further notice. So unfortunately, we will not be able to improve the records in CDI.

  10. CDI collection for Elsevier Open Access articles

    Could you please add a CDI database only collection with links in record for Elsevier open access articles?

    There is no longer an Elsevier open access knowledge base collection https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/574345-content/suggestions/43048611-add-elsevier-open-access-collection-to-alma-cz

    And I think this would work better as a CDI collection given how many OA articles there are in hybrid journals.

    For example, 76,000 archival articles were made open as the result of a large United States Library consortia agreement:

    And these OA articles should be more easily discoverable via a dedicated CDI link in record collection.

    "Database for Research Thesis Catalog of Japanese Literature（国文学論文目録データベース）" is a union catalog database of research papers on Japanese literature.

  12. Post additional standard organizations on ASTM platform

    ASTM has several standard organizations that we (as customers) can subscribe to. Each of these should have their own community zone collection with CDI.
    International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), UNE-EN ISO

    There may need to be more than one ISO collection as I'm not sure if all standards are available everywhere regardless of subscription location.

    ASTM do not create MARC or KBART files for ASTM standards or our third-party partners.

    Therefore we will not be able to add more ASTM standards to our Knowledgebases and CDI.

    "ひつじ研究叢書" is series title and the provider 丸善 is introducing it for sale or for marketing.

    You do not have to buy all the titles of the series, so there is no need in a new collection.

    Please select the relevant titles in 360, SFX, and Alma Marurzen Ebook Library (DBID:MOSFZ), and activate according to your agreement with Maruzen.

  19. Create new/separate automatic holdings collections for Taylor & Francis

    I'd love to make use of the new Taylor & Francis automatic holdings feature, but the collections it points to are collections that we are already using. For certain providers, I prefer to use automatic holdings as a "back-up" to my own management. The "Taylor & Francis eBooks Complete" is the collection that the GOBI API uses. I'm also already using the "Taylor & Francis Current Content Access" for another reason. Springer and Wiley both have separate autoholdings collections. Could separate collections also be created for Taylor & Francis? Thanks!

    For newer integrations, we will create new autoholdings dedicated collections.

    However, this integration has already been deployed long ago, so any change will cause issues to customers who use it.

    Therefore, we will not be making this change.

    "新建築データ(SHINKENCHIKU DATA)" is an online database of Japanese biggest journal of architecture.

    Both paper version of this journal and this database are widely subscribed in many universities in Japan.
