← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s). 
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

How can we improve Content?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.

  1. Add full MARC records to CZ for OverDrive and Kanopy

    OverDrive and Kanopy collections have recently been added to the Alma Community Zone. We're thrilled at this possibility, as it should help consortium members manage their collections better. However, the brief MARC records are wholly unexpected given that the company provides MARC records to subscribers.

    If it is contractually possible, please add the company's MARC records to the CZ for corresponding portfolios, as this will aid in discovery and efficiency for both the consortium and member libraries.

    Hello,

    The OverDrive Ebooks and Audiobooks (Collection ID: 61499649300000041) has a Bib rank of 77, which is currently the best we can get.

    Kanopy currently does not provide MARC records. However, we have communicated to them that there is significant interest from the community in obtaining better records and we hope they will be able to provide these in the future.

    Kanopy do not provide enrichment for their records at the moment, but they are aware of the importance of high quality records.

  3. Add Elsevier Open Archive Collection

    Can you add a collection for Elsevier's Open Archive? See this list here: https://www.elsevier.com/open-access/open-archive

    It doesn't contain all the open access titles, but it does contain a list of the backfiles they've unlocked with the date ranges.

    Hello,

    Unfortunately, Elsevier does not provide a sustainable updated title list for this collection.

    Therefore, Ex Libris cannot maintain this collection in the CZ, and it can be added and managed locally using the Librarian Resource Center

  5. Enriching records of two collections contributed to CZ by Turku University Library.

    Turku University Library (FI-T)has contributed two collections to CZ: Finnish Historical Journals (Collection id 61254065080005971 )and Finnish Historical Newspapers (Collection id 61218060720005971). In IZ we have bibliographic records of high quality of Finnish historical serials, and we would appreciate if we could be able to enrich the records in CZ. Currently it is not possible. The records are made in cooperation with the Finnish ISSN agency and the National Library, all titles have e-ISSN and the records follow cataloguing standards and policies expressed by ExLibris.   6. Update American Association of Neurological Surgeons Publications on KB & CZ

    American Association of Neurological Surgeons Publications , code NEU, has not been updated since 2018. Since then, they started two new gold open-access journals, Neurosurgical Focus: Video and Journal of Neurosurgery Case Lessons, but they have not been in the journal list yet.

    So, I hope you will update the journal list as soon as possible.

  7. Updating Hrcak: Portal of scientific journals of Croatia on KB & CZ

    Portal of scientific journals of Croatia, code VP8, includes 353 journals on 360 KB. However, in their website, https://hrcak.srce.hr/en, it indicated 552 journal are incluided.

    I would like you to update title list and change Database name as HRČAK: Portal of Croatian scientific and professional journals soon.

  8. Update ScienceDirect Journals (Transactional Access) journal list on KB & CZ

    ScienceDirect Journals (Transactional Access) , code AFTJW, has not been updated since 2020. It seems Elsevier only provides "Journals without transactional access" journal list instead of Transactional access available one.
    So, I hope ExLibris will make updated ScienceDirect Journals (Transactional Access) journal list as soon as possible.

  9. Update Scientific Periodicals of Ukraine(Наукова періодика України) on KB & CZ

    Наукова періодика України (Scientific Periodicals of Ukraine), code 9MQ, includes 1752 journalson 360 KB. However, in their website, http://www.irbis-nbuv.gov.ua/cgi-bin/irbis_nbuv/cgiirbis_64.exe?C21COM=F&I21DBN=UJRN&P21DBN=UJRN&S21CNR=20&Z21ID=, it indicated 3035 journal are incluided.

    I would like you to update title list and range holding years soon.

  10. Update Arianta : Polish Scientific and Professional Electronic Journals on KB & CZ

    Since last update in 2020, Arianta , code Y2W, has included more journals than 5 years ago.
    When I asked Ms. Aneta Drabek of Arianta administrator to update title lists in 2023, she replied that she had no connection with ExLibris at the moment.
    I hope the company would contact Ms.Drabek for asking journal list & update journal list in 360 KB soon.

    Jisc does not manage title lists for book collection.

    Therefore, this should be managed locally and not in the Alma Knowledgebases.

    Please add ProQuest access numbers for collection id 613170000000000058. When patrons find these records in Primo and create Resource Sharing requests, our RS team needs to spend too much time searching for the access numbers so that they can purchase copies of dissertations.

    The portal for British Colonial Policy and Intelligence Files on Asia and the Middle East is included in De Gruyter Databases collection (Collection ID 614730000000000018) with the various sub-databases (https://www.degruyterbrill.com/database/bif/html?lang=en#database) available as portfolios in this collection.

  16. More Naxos metadata in Community Zone

    Hello, I see that there are now no-portfolio databases in the Community Zone for the different Naxos collections and that these are region-specific.

    At our institution, we have separate Primo search scopes for articles (where the CDI records appear) and everything else. We'd like our Naxos records to appear within the 'everything else' scope so would prefer to use bibliographic records and portfolios to manage these collections. Is it possible to include title-level records in the CZ for these collections? Then institutions would have the choice to use CZ records, or CDI records, or both.

    Unfortunately, we are not able to use the Naxos records to create CZ collections, as there is now ay to set up an automated update for them.

    We are able to use them for CDI, and created regional collections to correspond with the different Naxos collections.

    Regrettably, the DART-Europe e-theses portal will be closing down on 31 January 2025. 

    Therefore we will not add this to CDI.

    Hello,

    Wiley does not maintain a title list for this resource due to differing sales models.

    Therefore, some textbooks are available on Wiley Online Library and others are not. If the title is hosted on Wiley Online Library, it will be included in the A-Z file and the holdings feed. However, if it is hosted elsewhere, it will not be included.

    Can World Bank Documents & Reports be added to the Alma CZ? Also, cannot find World Bank Open Knowledge Repository in Alma CZ so can it be added to Alma CZ?
