← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

How can we improve Content?

  1. Add Met Opera on Demand Records to the CZ

    Please add the Metropolitan Opera's "Met Opera on Demand" content to the CZ. They do not appear to have records directly available, but they do offer MARC records through OCLC's Connection Manager.

    Very few students use the correct proxy database link to visit Met Opera separately as their first method of finding these recordings. More often, students search Primo (which will not show Met Opera records, leading them to assume it's not online) OR bypass our specific link and go directly to Met Opera or Google, often making it appear like they can't access it.   2. Improve full-text coverage and restore CDI fields for Factiva Academic

    Factiva is one of our primary sources for newspaper content. Previously, the link in record Factiva collection we used included CDI fields but now it does not. WIthout CDI fields, we can't even confirm whether records for Factiva content would be included in Primo search results or in Newspapers search only. Of the 4 Factiva collections currently available in the CZ, only the link in record collection for Corporate subscribers includes CDI fields.     Hello,

    We add descriptive fields to CDI collections only when their coverage exceeds 80%.

    For this collection, only approximately one-third of the titles include identifiers, which does not allow us to achieve the required matching level to meet this threshold.

    As a result, we are unable to add descriptive fields to this collection.

    "ETV is the largest online video platform for educators in Aotearoa New Zealand with over 150,000 videos". These include:
    * the TV Recordings collection - programmes recorded from broadcast television channels
    * the Online Collections catalogue - videos downloaded from internet channels
    The collections support teaching and learning in all subject areas and are especially valuable to support Māori and Pasifika studies as well as other New Zealand-specific subjects.

    Since our last communication with the provider several months ago, we have not heard back despite multiple attempts.

    After reviewing the metadata Pressreader can share, they are not suitable for enrichment due to lack of descriptive fields.

    Therefore, we will not be able to enrich their collections.

    Hello,

    ACM confirmed that the difference between Digital Library Basic and Digital Library Premium is not in the metadata, but in the tools.

    They do not have separate title lists for these.

  8. Add CDI Collection for De Gruyter subscribe to open journals

    DeGruyter has over 100 journals in its subscribe to open (S2O) program.

    Hello,

    De Gruyter has confirmed that their Open Access content does not include distinct metadata for S2O, so S2O items cannot be differentiated from other OA content.

    As a result, we are not able to support this request.

    Berghahn Books launched a new 14-journal package "Berghahn Open Society" under the Subscribe to Open model. There is already a collection for their first S2O collection (Berghahn Open Anthro). Please work with Berghahn to add a collection for the new Open Society Collection. Thanks!

  10. Ask Gale to enrich Archives of Sexuality & Gender MARC records with homosaurus subject headings.

    We currently use vendor records from Gale for Gale's Archives of Sexuality & Gender e-collections (there are six e-collections). We would prefer to switch to using CZ CKB records for the link maintenance and journal coverage information, but our Gale vendor MARC records, upon request, were updated to include homosaurus subject headings which we consider important given the content. Perhaps, since Gale appears to be one of your MARC record providers, you could ask them to add homosaurus subject headings to the Archives of Sexuality & Gender e-collections MARC records.

  12. De Gruyter University Press Backlist Collections

    De Gruyter provides many university press collections that are for backlist years, such as 2013 and earlier. However, while these collections are available and have portfolios representing the titles in the collection, some titles do not have full-text because De Gruyter is in the process of digitizing these.
