← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

How can we improve Content?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  3. Amend all e-resource URLs to HTTPS, where appropriate, so we don't need to notify Ex Libris on an ad-hoc basis

    Update e-resource URLs as publishers change their platforms. Keep track of these changes so we don't need to notify Ex Libris ad-hoc. Follow OCLC database stanza changes, and subscribe to publisher and aggregator alerts like the libraries do to maintain current awareness.

    Hello,

    At this time, LLMC will not produce a feed for discovery so we will not be able to add their package to CDI.

    We are unable to use the OCLC MARC records due to legal restrictions.

  7. Change "View record in ProQuest (subscribers only)" to "View resource in ProQuest (subscribers only)"

    I am confused why it says "View record in ProQuest (subscribers only)" when clicking on this link does not bring a person primarily to a record, but to a full-text item or resource.

    I was told the text can't be changed in a Primo Code Table, or a Normalization rule set, because Primo Central records are normalized in the Primo Central back office, and cannot be edited.

  8. Change the 'Citation Online' feature for the content type=Report for ASFA records when full text is available

    I would like to propose that the content type=Report for Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) records are changed so that ASFA records with Full text links can be shown instead of 'Citation Online' which is misleading to the client. We have inputted thousands of government document records in ASFA which have a full text link but these links are not currently displayed in the Summon Brief results. ASFA is no longer just an abstract and indexing database as it now includes links to full text publications and grey literature. This should be changed as it can impact all users…

    At this time we do not have an agreement with Hein to ingest their content in our CDI.

    When we are able to reach an agreement we will work with them to ingest their content to the CDI.

    This will result in a collection with title lists of BULK::Bulk linking method, therefore will not be resolving to article level.

    I would suggest to create such a collection locally for your internal purposes.

  17. Springer Nature Open Access Community Zone Electronic Collection

    This is a request to add a single free/open access collection for all Springer Nature free/open access journals. Currently there are 4 community zone collections in Alma with many overlaps:

    We’d like the addition of one single consolidated collection because having the above 4 collections is unnecessarily confusing for students and staff as they currently encounter so many electronic collections for the same journal/article even when different community zone electronic collection links in Primo end up…

  18. Add books from Proquest's Oasis database to PCI

    We are recommending Primo to our users as the route to suggest new books for purchase. However, PCI is not great for books, unless they are part of a publisher's e-book collection.

    Proquest have their own database of books in print via Oasis - this would be a fantastic addition to PCI and would greatly facilitate purchase requests or resource sharing requests via Primo.

  19. Encyclopaedia Universalis, with availability type "Link resolver"

    Encyclopaedia Universalis collection already exists in PCI, but the availability type is "Link in Record". It makes it impossible for patrons to access the fulltext.
    The availability should be "Link resolver", so the library can manage its proxy settings in the link resolver.

    This content is available in our Knowledgebases and CDI. We have reviewed the request to switch to Link Resolver, and determined that the collection is best represented with the Link in Record method for best results.

  20. ProQuest Modern Archive

    ProQuest's Modern Archive product (by subject area) has different coverage dates than the Classic Archive product. Currently, options in the Alma CZ cover only Classic Archive dates.
