Content

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

If you want to add an institutional repository, please open a case and follow the documentation here:

    Hello,

Following a discussion with the provider they have confirmed that they do not supply title lists that represent "Global" and "Premium" title lists, nor are they planning to create these at this time.

Therefore we are closing this request.

  4. NERS 2021 - Portico Post-cancellation/perpetual access

In 360 KB and SFX (maybe in Alma as well) there exist several databases for Portico - triggered Content.

But Portico has a supplementary offer that is called "Portico - Post-cancellation/perpetual access". This offer contains journals from various publishers where the post-cancellation access is partly not through the platform of the publisher but through Portico.

You find some information about this offer here: https://www.portico.org/for-participants/#pca

The title lists for this database can be found here: https://www.portico.org/coverage/titles/ - it includes e-journals and e-books.

I ask you to add this database to SFX and 360 KB (and Alma if it doesn't exist there…

    Hello all,

We have been in touch with Portico and they have been engaged and responsive.
At this time they are unable to supply an "all titles" list (not institution-specific), so unfortunately we cannot currently support this request.

That said, Portico have taken this feedback and will be considering internally how to address this request.
Whenever such a possibility will arise, we will gladly re-engage with Portico to create a title list as suggested here.

    Rael

  5. Bloomberg Law

Bloomberg Law (https://www.bloomberglaw.com) is a major platform for American legal content, including books, journals, news channels, and other sources. Please add an Alma CZ collection covering the Bloomberg Law content made available by subscription to academic law libraries.

Please also explore the possibility of using Bloomberg Law MARC records to enrich the CZ records: https://www.bna.com/marc-records-bloomberg-m17179934017 Without enriched CZ records, libraries that are currently loading vendor records for this collection are likely to continue doing so rather than use a CZ collection.

Also, the linking and title lists of the following BNA e-collections are outdated. Bloomberg has shut down…

  6. Add DigiZeitschriften to PCI / CDI

We would like to see the journal platform DigiZeitschriften added to PCI / CDI.

    For more information, see: https://www.digizeitschriften.de/en/

In Alma there are already 3 Electronic Collections:
    - DigiZeitschriften Open Access
    - DigiZeitschriften Subscription
    - DigiZeitschriften Journals

Please keep this subdivision in PCI / CDI.

Since this source contains many old journals without ISSN, it would probably be better if the links to the full text came directly from DigiZeitschriften (Primo Link section) to avoid problems with the link resolver (Alma ViewIt).

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Add books from Proquest's Oasis database to PCI

We are recommending Primo to our users as the route to suggest new books for purchase. However, PCI is not great for books, unless they are part of a publisher's e-book collection.

Proquest have their own database of books in print via Oasis - this would be a fantastic addition to PCI and would greatly facilitate purchase requests or resource sharing requests via Primo.

  9. Classiques Sciences Sociales Free

Classiques Sciences Sociales Free collection is composed of more than 4,300 portfolios. Most of the records are very poor: only the title, one author, and the eISBN. The publication date in 008/7-10 is usually incorrect.
Full Marc records exist for these items and are available under certain conditions (for libraries) at http://classiques.uqac.ca/inter/telechargement_notices.php?lang=en
Note also that Les Classiques des sciences sociales actually contain more than 6,500 free works http://classiques.uqac.ca . A general update of this collection would be welcome.

  11. New LexisNexis / Nexis Uni linking solution

It feels like a very small minority of links to Nexis Uni content resolve successfully. I've opened a number of support tickets without much progress, only to be told that LexisNexis/Nexis Uni simply doesn't work well with the OpenURL resolver. I'd like more development work to go into this connection as it renders a large amount of content in a very popular database inaccessible.

As of August 2022 the article level linking was removed from Nexis Uni as we could not support it with the currently available metadata.

  12. Change the 'Citation Online' feature for the content type=Report for ASFA records when full text is available

I would like to propose that the content type=Report for Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) records are changed so that ASFA records with Full text links can be shown instead of 'Citation Online' which is misleading to the client. We have inputted thousands of government document records in ASFA which have a full text link but these links are not currently displayed in the Summon Brief results. ASFA is no longer just an abstract and indexing database as it now includes links to full text publications and grey literature. This should be changed as it can impact all users…

  13. Scifinder Discovery Platform

Please add the "Scifinder Discovery Platform" to Alma as a collection with the following 3 portfolios:

    · CAS SciFinderⁿ
    · CAS Formulus
    · CAS Analytical Methods

Some of the portfolios exist also as standalone databases in Alma; this should be maintained as it is.

  17. add patent information to Primo Central

At its core the Primo Central Index content is all about scientific publications. But since the integration of the ProQuest resources the resource type scope became much wider
    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/@api/deki/files/42859/Primo_Central_Index_Resource_Types.pdf
Patents applications are published by the national patent offices and they are publicly available. For a science and technology audience it would be very beneficial to search patent publications and literature publications in one index. First choice would be the publications from patent offices. Second best would be data from commercial aggregators.

    Hello all,

Our goal in providing content for our customers is to ensure that it is as optimally searchable and discoverable as possible.
The search requirements for patents are not the same as the standard academic search parameters and fields, nor are the display needs and usage methods.
In order to support these, an optimized Primo user interface would be required, as was developed for newspapers.
Therefore we believe that ingesting patent content at this time would not promote better discoverability or usage.

Such an Idea could be suggested on the Primo Idea Exchange Forum, and would need to be assessed accordingly.

The suggested idea is less about content and more about 360Link functionality.
As such the suggested idea will not be handled as part of the content forum but the enhancement request was communicated to 360Lnk Product manager who will consider the enhancement.

  20. Add "subscribe by email" and other ways to monitor CKB release notes

It is crucial for us to monitor CKB release notes to ensure that collection activations are appropriately revised in response to changes. At present, the only way to monitor the notes is by RSS feed, which is cumbersome -- it is very easy to miss changes with only RSS feed updates. Please add other means of monitoring these changes, such as subscribing to the release notes by email.
