← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

How can we improve Content?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  3. NERS 2021 - Pressbooks Directory

    The Pressbooks Directory (https://pressbooks.directory/) indexes over 2000 open access books created by educational institutions. As many of these are not indexed separately, it would be great if the contents of the directory could be included in the Alma Community Zone and/or the Central Discovery Index.

  4. Could we add Art & Architecture Thesaurus Online. http://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/aat/

    It would be great to add the AAT vocabularies to the CZ to enhance and enrich records for and about artistic endeavour.

    Hello,

    We have successfully performed an update to the Lynda.com content in SFX and Alma (available in the coming release).

    Please Note that we will continue to work with LinkedIn to see if we can receive ongoing updates. There are no current plans to add this to Discovery, as we are still in talks to reach an agreement.

    The quality of the metadata for Dalloz Bibliothèque in the CZ and CDI is extremely poor (sometimes only one title). Please, consider enriching the metadata with those coming from the SUDOC (more complete and of better quality). Enrichment could perhaps be based on the PPN (SUDOC identifier) that you have already injected into the CZ records?

    Please add the Ebooks Minnesota collection to both the Alma CZ and the Primo Central Index. This collection is freely accessible to all people located in the state of Minnesota and is therefore used by every Minnesota library (public, K12, higher ed, etc.).   9. Open Textbook Catalog: Please use direct feed of MARC records from https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/discovery

    In the CZ there is an existing collection (613790000000001601) for the Open Textbook Catalog.

    Compared to the MARC records available at https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/discovery the CZ collection has fewer titles (651 vs 766 as of 07/13/2020).

    Also the CZ bibliographic records are extremely brief and usually have nothing more than a title in the 245 field. The bib records from open.umn.edu are fuller with author, title, publisher, content and summary notes and subject headings.

    This request is to ask Exlibris to use the publicly available MARC bib records from the open.umn.edu website to enhance the existing CZ collection.

    EBSCO has created a new resource as of July 2018, MLA International Bibliography with Full Text from EBSCO. This e-collection is not available in the CZ. Can this full text resource be added to CKB?

  14. Add Thoth Open Access collection as a Community Zone

    This is a request to add the collection of Diamond OA publications in Thoth (http://www.thoth.pub/) as a Community Zone collection.

    Thoth contains a steadily growing collection of OA publications from scholar-led publishers such as punctum books, Open Book Publishers, meson press, mediastudies.press, and African Minds, and we have been working with UC Santa Barbara Library to make it more accessible to libraries worldwide.

    Creating a dedicated Community Zone would substantially increase access to these OA publishers.

    The collection EBSCOHost Education Source Ultimate, Collection ID 614970000000001000, has been added to the Knowledgebases.

    Please be advised that Alma does not accommodate abstracts and TOC titles, so this collection reflects the full text titles only - 3,855 titles.

    Hello all,

    As previously updated, this content is already available in our Delivery products.

    Following discussions with Lexis we have reached the mutual conclusion that at this time Ex Libris will not be able to ingest this content in our Discovery products.
    Lexis are currently unable to provide Ex Libris with the metadata in a format that we can properly process.
