We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

  1. Add Firenze University press open access book collection

A certain number of these works are included in the open access catalogue.
All publications are certified by the Editorial Board that coordinates the peer review process.

    Hello all,

We are excited to share that the Firenze University Press Open Access Books content is now available for Delivery and Discovery in our products.

Many thanks to the community for supporting this request and assisting in the process when needed.

  2. Add Homosaurus to Alma Authority Vocabularies

We would like to suggest adding Homosaurus, an international LGBTQ+ linked data vocabulary to the authority vocabularies in the resource management configuration. The vocabulary is available at https://homosaurus.org/

Homosaurus has received a lot of traction in the past few years as alternative to LCSH for describing resources about the LGBTQ+ community. We add the terms at present in a 650 _7 $a heading $2 homoit.

Adding Homosaurus to the authority vocabularies would help greatly in on-going authority control, rather than managing locally.

    Idunn open access e-books

Note that there are two Idunn e-collections in CZ already:

  4. Academic e-books from Norwegian publishers via Allvit / Bokbasen

The Norwegian academic publishers will be making a large selection of their academic books and publications available as e-books in 2019. This is part of a national effort to strengthen the position of Norwegian as a language used in academic and research publications as well as in bachelor- and master-level studies in Norway.

Bokbasen (https://www.bokbasen.no) is developing an online solution for purchasing and administration of library licenses for these academic e-books from Norwegian publishers, and we would like to have this collection included in Alma ‘s Community Zone.

  7. Please quit using print records (or old combo print-electronic records) in the CZ to represent serials in electronic format

My understanding is that the CZ records are to represent electronic formats, but most of them seem to be records for the corresponding print title. ISSNs are either wrong (print, where it should be electronic) or the record has both the print and electronic ISSNs in the $a subfield. The OCLC# is usually that for the print record.

All of this causes problems with matching and dedupping when attempting to import and/or order actual print copies.

Please go to electronic only records for the CZ.

    Hello all,

Following extensive analysis and discussions with the CZ Management Group and some internal developments, we are glad to announce that starting in the Alma January 2020 release, the Community Zone will begin to process conversions of CONSER records from print to electronic.

For more information please see the following CKC article:

  8. Add AIATSIS thesauri to the CZ subject authority files

As a cataloguer, I would like to see the AIATSIS thesauri made available in the Community Zone authority files for 6XX subject fields.

    BENEFITS

    • Make it easier for cataloguers to validate AIATSIS subject headings
    • Enable routine review and updates of AIATSIS subject headings through the Authority Control Task List
    • Enrich Primo searches for end users, using non-preferred terms (especially synonyms for people and language groups)
    • Promote AIATSIS thesauri to Australian libraries

While specific libraries can import and manage AIATSIS subject headings as local authorities, I think this vocabulary should be made available in the CZ authority records, since it is…

  9. Include all Full View HathiTrust (Hathi Trust) content and not just Public Domain

HathiTrust collections are defined by access rights; materials that are fully accessible to users are within their Full View collection, which includes Public Domain, Open Access, Creative Commons, and other materials to which owners have given permissions for access. Materials restricted in access are defined as Limited - Search Only; these materials include those with copyright restrictions. These two categories, Full View and Limited - Search Only can be further refined by geographical region, for US or non-US. Info about access rights is at https://www.hathitrust.org/access_use and info about data files is at https://www.hathitrust.org/data.

  11. Provide a seamless, timely and automatic workflow for ingesting Jisc KB+ data into the Alma Community Zone.

We subscribe to the majority of our eresource content via nationally negotiated eresource deals (Jisc Collections, WHEEL). Jisc’s KB+ product (https://www.kbplus.ac.uk/kbplus/) maintains a knowledgebase which includes comprehensive title and package information for these EResources.

We would like ExLibris to harvest the KB+ title lists from the KB+ publicly accessible export page (https://www.kbplus.ac.uk/kbplus/publicExport) on a daily basis to ensure that all new and updated title lists in the Alma Community Zone are identical to the title lists in KB+.

    Hello all,

We are very happy to announce that we have released a game-changing API that we worked very closely with KB+ to develop. As part of this API the Ex Libris SFX and Alma products will have an automated process that identifies a new collection by KB+ and automatically creates this new collection in the system, as well as setting up the ongoing updates.
This development took us several months and extensive collaboration with the KB+ team. We have completed testing and plan to monitor this process over the coming months when new collections become available, with an expected turnaround of up to two weeks.

    Best,
    Rael

  12. Brepolis Databases

Brepols Publishers is an international academic publisher of works in the humanities. The focus of its publications lies in "source-works" from Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. By this is meant critical editions of original texts and documents in their original language, reference works such as encyclopaedias, handbooks and bibliographies, as well as monograph studies and cutting-edge research.

The following Brepolis databases (online encyclopedias, handbooks and bibliographies) would significantly enrich the indexes if there were added to Primo Central and Summon:
    - L'Année Philologique
    - Bibliography of British and Irish History
    - International Medieval Bibliography
    - Bibliographie…

  14. CZ Collection Request: CARE-CRUI SpringerLink Journals

The CARE-CRUI italian consortium has agreed with Springer a version of the "SpringerLink Journals" package tailored for the italian universities participating at the consortium.

This consortium (http://www.crui-risorselettroniche.it/) is the master reference for all the italian universities.

So the italian Alma customers are in the need of a tailored package in the CZ too: say a "CARE-CRUI SpringerLink Journals" package, similar to other localized packages yet present on the CZ ( i.e. "OhioLINK SpringerLink Journals" package).

Please note that at now such package does not exist: all the springerlink journals packages available in the CZ have different content than…

It contains more than 5,500 scholarly articles (mostly in French and English) published in 20 OA journals by two Belgian universities. PoPuPS exists already as a target/collection/database in SFX, Alma and 360/Intota and as a collection in Primo Central Index.

ORBi (Open Repository and Bibliography - http://orbi.ulg.ac.be) is the institutional repository of the University of Liege and was launched by the University Library in 2008. Currently, it contains more than 52,200 OA references of scholarly materials of all kinds (articles, book chapters, books, reports, dissertations, presentations...). ORBi has been harvested by Primo Central Index since March 2013 and by EBSCO Discovery Service since July 2016. Open Access contents of ORBi can be harvested in OAI-PMH. Hello,

We have successfully performed an update to the Lynda.com content in SFX and Alma (available in the coming release).

Please Note that we will continue to work with LinkedIn to see if we can receive ongoing updates. There are no current plans to add this to Discovery, as we are still in talks to reach an agreement.

  20. Open Textbook Catalog: Please use direct feed of MARC records from https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/discovery

In the CZ there is an existing collection (613790000000001601) for the Open Textbook Catalog.

Compared to the MARC records available at https://open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/discovery the CZ collection has fewer titles (651 vs 766 as of 07/13/2020).

Also the CZ bibliographic records are extremely brief and usually have nothing more than a title in the 245 field. The bib records from open.umn.edu are fuller with author, title, publisher, content and summary notes and subject headings.

This request is to ask Exlibris to use the publicly available MARC bib records from the open.umn.edu website to enhance the existing CZ collection.

    Thank you.
