Add SAML / federated / "Shibboleth" login option for saved searches
As the Summon Saved Searches function is being developed, options for authentication and storage using external web-scale identity systems have been added - Google account authentication / Google Drive, and Microsoft account authentication / Microsoft OneDrive.
My institution has avoided promoting this new feature because we have a strong policy of requiring all authentication to institutional systems, to be via institutional login.
I would like to see a SAML-based, federated (i.e. UK Access Management Federation) authentication option for this feature.
10 votesWe have provided a plan for addressing SAML in the future to support login for Summon Saved search

Add Unpaywall database to the Summon index
Unpaywall is a service which harvests Open Access content directly from over 50,000 repositories. It's rapidly becoming the leading source of information about legal OA content across the web.
Unpaywall offer a 'database snapshot', a complete dump of everything we know about every Open Access DOI that exists.
I think it would be a great idea for Summon to incorporate this data in its index. It would allow a much greater level of direct linking to Open Access content for all Summon users.
(It's already possible to integrate Unpaywall's API with 360link for individual, article-by-article requests.)
164 votesLinks directly to PDFs from Unpaywall are included in the November 2019 quarterly release. In 2020 we will expand on this functionality to include facet support and reporting.

Ability to remove the long URL when exporting from Summon to RefWorks
When bibliographic data is exported from Summon into RefWorks the Summon link is included.
Is it possible to not include this link for books specifically?
Or to have an option to exclude the link.Currently they look like this: and as you can imagine this does not look good in a bibliography (We have to tell students to remove the links, which is far from ideal)

sorting results by publication date
The sort by publication date newest/oldest in Summon does not sort by the displayed publication date but by the merged record date which is invisible to the end user.
The user is seeing the results screen and so it seems really odd to provide a publication date sort and then not allow the user to sort by the date that they can see since the behavior on the backend is entirely and completely transparent to them and doesn't seem to serve the user well by any stretch.
There needs to be a true publication date sort that uses the displayed…

Facets usage - request to view 'excludes' as well as 'includes'
A while back I was looking at our facet usage stats for 2017 to date, and I noticed that although we have Newspaper Articles excluded from searches by default, this facet has the highest amount of 'uses'. I asked Ex-Libris Support if this was because every search a user runs is, by default, including the exclusion of Newspapers as a facet use. I also asked if there was a way to get stats on the number of people who remove the exclusion of newspaper articles after running their first search.
For an example, this was our top-used facet at the…

DB recommender - tags export feature
We would like to be able to export the list of databases and the tags used for the recommender.
Furthermore, it would be nice if we can import the completed list.15 votesThis has been completed as part of the Summon 2021 Roadmap.

Usability of Advanced Search
Certain elements of the advanced search screen are very difficult to use on mobile devices, particularly the 'Content type' and 'Discipline' multiple check-box options, where scrolling through a long list is problematic.
Is there a way to improve this, perhaps by using a larger pop-out box that can be scanned at a glance?1 voteCompleted as part of the November 2022 release.

Label peer-review results as such
On the results page, add a label to each entry that is peer-reviewed (like you do for "open access" content).

Distinguish between author and editor in Summon results and citations
Before RDA, catalogue records did not clearly distinguish between the author and editor of a work, so Summon could not do this either. We would like Summon results and citations to separate author and editor, where this is possible. This would be particularly helpful when exporting citations to reference manager software such as RefWorks. Currently editors are always imported into the author field. This has caused our users problems as it means their references are inaccurate, unless they notice the problem and manually fix it.
In RDA, terms such as author and editor can be added to the names given…

Improve handling of duplicates with common titles
Currently, Summon prevents certain common titles from participating in the match & merge process if they are on the "Bad titles" list or the reach a certain count in the "Overmatch" algorithm. This process should be improved so that "real" titles are allowed to merge.
1 voteWe revised the match and merge rules around Overmatch as part of the upgrade to CDI. Hopefully this cleared up some of these issues. Please enter a new idea if there are specifics you’d still like to see included.

Clearing search will not let the user enter a new search directly
When the user clicks the x that clears the search-field in order to make a new search, the cursor is not placed in the search field. The user has to click in the search field in order to write something. The way this works it is quicker to just select the text in the search field and erase it by hitting the Back space.

Consistent link back to search results
The user leaves the search result and goes to detail page, advanced search or saved items. Then when the user wants to return to search results this is done in three different ways. We would like the link back to search results look the same in all three situations. The one we prefer is the one in the detail page.

360 Core "Automated Holdings Management" currently supports the ProQuest Ebooks providers only. This feed greatly reduces the amount of work
360 Core "Automated Holdings Management" currently supports the ProQuest Ebooks providers only.
This feed greatly reduces the amount of work to maintain ebook holdings by the librarians.
It would be great if you could add the same feeds for Elsevier, Springer and EBSCO ebooks.93 votesSupport for KBART automating holdings exchange is implemented. As of May 2024 we have added Taylor & Francis and Springer integrations. More providers will be added going forward.

Add 'date last updated' to database details
In the Data Management section of Serials Solutions, it would be useful if the database details screen displayed when the metadata was last updated for each database. This could be accomplished by having a 'date last updated' field in the database details screen.
This would be helpful for finding out how current the database's included titles, URLs, etc. are in the knowledgebase.

Make Link Out(Summon Direct Linking) statistics of each database available in OBI
We would like to be able to see the click-through (or call it Link Out) usage of each database via Summon IEDL in Summon OBI and the total click-throughs so that we can understand how Summon contributes to the usage of the e-resources we subscribe to.

Show whether "We only subscribe to some titles" is an option.
When you search a title and need to choose a database to subscribe in, it is not clear until you subscribe to the database whether "We only subscribe to some titles" is an option. It would be great if we could see in advance whether we are going to be able to select that option before subscribing to that database, either in the list of database options or in the database details. This would prevent a lot of extra clicking and frustration.

Display edition and publication year in brief results, for books and ebooks
I have been told by Ex Libris support that Summon only exposes the edition in the short summary for records that have a content type of 'Book'. This makes it difficult for patrons to determine which edition is the most recent, where both books and ebooks are available. See attached image for an example of how both can be displayed, to reduce confusion.
24 votesEdition, volume and publication year are now displayed in the brief result.
