Top menu bar - Feedback, Help, Language
Some suggestions for the top menu bar.
- Allow enable/ disable for Feedback & Help in top menu. Currently, feedback and help are able to pointing to specific links. But not able to disable/ enable the links.
- Move the language dropdown to the top menu, instead of under the manual button then click and select from the dropdown. It's not easy for patron to find out this option and change the language.1 voteThe language dropdown was moved out with the recent User Interface changes

Fields 530 and 550^i not displaying in Summon for records from Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (database F1W)
I would like to propose that the default settings for the content type=Government document record to be changed. Currently, the default "brief" view does not include the volume/Issue data for content type=government documents. Instead, the Issue field data is located in the Preview section and the client would need to know to click on the Preview button in order to see the volume/issue number. This is not user-friendly or obvious to clients. In particular, this is not working for the display of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstract records.
36 votesCan be addressed with the new 5xx display functionality. To add 5xx display to your instance of Summon, please open a support case.

Update Summon's AGLC citation style - AGLC4 is now available
We would like to see the AGLC3 citation style available in the Summon UI replaced by AGLC4 (or at least AGLC4 be made available as an option).
11 votesCustom citations are now available in Summon as part of the August 2022 release. This citation style should be available. If it is not, or if any citation style does not meet your criteria, you can create your own.

Allow more than 2 custom panels to be expanded by default
At present, no more than 2 custom panels in the right-hand section of the Summon results page can be expanded by default. Others are only accessible by a More... link. Give libraries the option of setting how many custom panels are open by default.

Add A-Z list for databases
Add A-Z list for databases or allow A-Z order from the list of results in Summon to set a query for custom link.

WhatsApp, Skype for business available in right pane
At the moment only a few chat programs can be integrated. I would love to integrate WhatsApp or Skype for Business, or common chat functionalitied in the right pane.
So the library can use the chat software of the organisation instead of buying edxtra software24 votesWe added WhatsApp support in the May 2020 Summon release.

Must provide full text link PDF in the first result page itself, to click and get for users very easily

Mechanism for Best Bets to 'harvest' LibAnswers FAQs (from SpringShare)
LibAnswers FAQs have topics, keywords, titles and serve a similar purpose to best bets (in our approach anyway).
An automated regular harvest of these merged with existing best bets makes it easy to share the workload managing this sort of content and pushes us closer to the idea that searching Summon is literally searching the Library.

Allow facet for "Online" (electronic) vs "In the Library" (physical)
A simple facet that helps users distinguish between electronic materials online and physical materials in the library.
Using the current "Refine your Search" facet for this purpose feels problematic: "Full text online" feels jargony in our context and also isn't intuitive that it would include non-textual electronic resources such as streaming audio and video, while "Library Catalog" feels similarly jargony and includes electronic records that exist in our catalog. This facet also includes other options that are valuable, but in the facet I am proposing simplicity in having only those two options would be ideal.145 votesIncluded in the May 2021 release, with an update in the June 2021 maintenance release. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can activate the facets (Physical Book Processing) in your Summon site, then preview the results on your preview site after a search index update (usually within 7 days).

Add library location and genre to advanced search options
Several facets are already on the advanced search option screen, but we'd like to see added the library location facet and genre for those that use the advanced search feature regularly.
29 votesCompleted partially as part of the 2022 Advanced Search update for Summon. Library Location is now available as an option on the Advanced Search form.
For Genre, you can still search that as an option at the top of the Advanced Search form, but it is not available in a similar format as Library Location.

Show all Availaility information of library catalog records.
When there are multiple availability information on library catalog, one of them shows up on results page and the others are hidden in current Summon interface.
It is favorable for library if all the availability information would be shown as default.11 votesThis was included as part of the User Interface improvements in the December 2021 Summon Quarterly Release. Availability is now available under each result.

Allow A-Z order for Best Bets admin display
When you have a long list of Best Bets and they don't automatically get ordered alphabetically, the admin work becomes quite unpleasant when editing/removing entries etc.
34 votesCan be achieved using the bulk update proces.

Merge Reference & Newsletter Types
Often we will see duplicate records because one is labeled Reference and the other is labeled e-book, or one is labeled an Article and the other is labeled a Newsletter. Allow multiple categories on a record and merge them.
1 voteWe now include Newsletters as part of the match and merge process; if enough of the records match, they should now merge.

Include MARC 505 and 511 fields in the Details Page
For music recordings and films, it is particularly important to include the 505 and 511 fields to identify the unique aspects of an item. These fields are currently indexed in Summon, but not displayed, and Syndetics is not complete enough to replace them. Additionally, it can be confusing to users to have items in the search results for key terms found in the 505 and 511, but not displayed in the record.

Add Section number to Course ID in Course Reserves page
The Course Reserves page in Summon is a nice improvement for Summon Over Alma customers. In Summon, only the Alma course code is displaying as the Course Number. In the attached example, you can see that Bio 220 has 3 sections. It is not clear in Summon which section number corresponds to which course number. Please add the section number to course number in Summon.

Keep search refinements when moving to Advanced search
Reported by our Business librarians ...
I lose my search refinements if I jump from search results into advanced. For example, run a default search for something like, apple company profile, then refine it to reports. Click the link to advanced search, change the drop down to Title and press search. The report refinement is gone and has to be selected again.
If there is a way to keep your existing refinements, I would like that.

Make Ulrich smarter in 360 EJP
When a user selects the arrow to see "Journal Details" information from Ulrichs is presented, along with an option to see "More from Ulrichsweb.com." When the link is selected, however, it opens Ulrich and you have to re-enter the title. The suggestion is the title should be retained.

Add SAML / federated / "Shibboleth" login option for saved searches
As the Summon Saved Searches function is being developed, options for authentication and storage using external web-scale identity systems have been added - Google account authentication / Google Drive, and Microsoft account authentication / Microsoft OneDrive.
My institution has avoided promoting this new feature because we have a strong policy of requiring all authentication to institutional systems, to be via institutional login.
I would like to see a SAML-based, federated (i.e. UK Access Management Federation) authentication option for this feature.
10 votesWe have provided a plan for addressing SAML in the future to support login for Summon Saved search

Add Unpaywall database to the Summon index
Unpaywall is a service which harvests Open Access content directly from over 50,000 repositories. It's rapidly becoming the leading source of information about legal OA content across the web.
Unpaywall offer a 'database snapshot', a complete dump of everything we know about every Open Access DOI that exists.
I think it would be a great idea for Summon to incorporate this data in its index. It would allow a much greater level of direct linking to Open Access content for all Summon users.
(It's already possible to integrate Unpaywall's API with 360link for individual, article-by-article requests.)
164 votesLinks directly to PDFs from Unpaywall are included in the November 2019 quarterly release. In 2020 we will expand on this functionality to include facet support and reporting.

export search results
It would be helpful if users could export an entire set of search results without first having to send them to the folder one by one. If it's too complicated to engineer a way to "select all" with any quantity of results, perhaps just being able to "select and export all" when there are fewer than 100 results would be of some use.
