How can we improve Primo?

  1. The new Give Us Feedback Tool should provide information about the end users IP

    Access to electronic resources our library subscribes to is IP-based. If the user's IP address belongs to the university's IP range, they are recognized when they go to the resource and do not experience any access problems. Most of the issues reported to our support team come from students who forgot to turn on the VPN. Adding the IP address information to the feedback message would save us a lot of time in processing such issues.

  2. Add ability to save a record with a label while in the full record (Saved Record with label to My Favorites)

    I'm a student reviewing a list of results in Primo for a new assignment. I only have a bit of time right now to start my research, and in this first session I want to save articles which look like they meet my topic. Then I plan to come back on another day when I have more time, to do more detailed assessment of the articles I saved, read the full text, and start writing my assignment.   3. Support the use of wildcards within phrase searches

    At present, the use of wildcards within a phrase search is not supported in CDI. This functionality is supported when searching local records only but does not work when searching CDI or using a blended scope. Since the goal of discovery is to provide a single point of access to local and remote collections, it follows that both indexes should support the same search functionality and operators.

  4. Data accompanying article

    How will you keep datasets or articles being lost because they share the time title? It is becoming more and more common for articles to have accompanying data and from your description of match and merge, it seems that this may result in either the dataset or the article being excluded from search results.   5. Ability to move search by voice or add more space between the three buttons

    It would be useful to be able to move the "search by voice" function or expand the space between it and other buttons. As currently it is too close to the submit search button and cancel search button. Meaning that students and staff sometimes click on this accidently. It would be useful to be able to move this or make the spaces between these three items a bit larger. So these accidently clicks didn't keep happening.

  6. Add expand search (outside Imperial) into search scope

    When users and staff are searching Primo. Many of them want to run an expand search straight away. Rather than searching everything and then clicking on expand search.
    Solution: it would be better if expand search (outside imperial) could be a search scope. Although users the chance to search expand search straight away.

  7. Add expand search (outside Imperial) into advanced search

    User Story - When staff and users are creating an advanced search. Sometimes they want to search with an expanded search (outside Imperial). However, currently staff have to run the advanced search then click on expand search (outside Imperial). Solution: It would be better if expand search is added to Advanced search as an option.

  8. Add “Request another item”, “Check current requests” and “Close” options to “Request placed” page

    See the current Request placed page display attached. Add “Request another item”, “Check current requests” and “Close” options to the “Request placed” page that displays after a Primo Resource Sharing request has been placed. Also, add the ability to customise the link text, add explanatory text and generally customise the page. Our clients sometimes need to create several requests at the same time. Currently the required navigation back to the request form is not obvious.   9. Edit Labels of Primo Saved Items

    It would be good to change the text of an existing label(s) used on saved items.

    For instance to be able to change a label from "ethics" to "research ethics".

  10. Let patrons collapse elements of the full title display

    Hi

    There should be a setting in the patron account where they can decide which elements of the full display of a title are collapsed and which are open.

    The patrons are confronted with a lot of information of which only a small part is relevant to them – but which part they consider relevant can be different.

    You can collapse 'Get it from other institutions' (https://www.carli.illinois.edu/products-services/i-share/discovery-interface/custom_package_collapsegetitother) – in the same way it's probably possible to collapse the other elements, too.

  12. Citation Linker: support DOI link format

    The Citation Linker doesn't currently support lookup of citation data using a DOI if a user has entered the DOI as a link, e.g. https://doi.org/10.1111/123456789.
    This only works if the user enters the traditional form 10.1111/123456789.

    As the current guidelines from Crossref (https://www.crossref.org/education/metadata/persistent-identifiers/doi-display-guidelines/) are to always display DOIs as a link, many publishers now use this format. For maximum compatibility, the Citation Linker should be able to interpret DOIs in this form.

  13. "Guide Me" in Primo

    I would like to suggest to add “Guide Me” also in Primo for library users, as it exists already in Alma for library staff.
    Most of the libraries would like to have some guides for Primo users about different useful functions. The built-in option of “Guide Me” that the user will receive during his search in Primo can be very useful. This “Guide Me” can be Generic (written by Ex Libris) and include an edit option which will allow the Librarian to edit it.

  14. Export ISSN, EISSN, DOI and PMID Separately

    Using Export to Excel or CSV, we are able to export Identifier, but ISSN, EISSN, DOI and PMID are grouped together in one field.
    It will be more user-friendly if each Identifier is splitted into separate fields as shown in the attachment.

    Also I'd like to ask you one more favor.
    It would be great if "https://doi.org/" is added to DOI to access easily like https://doi.org/10.1109/5.771073.

  15. Make separate resource types for Manuscripts and Archival materials in CDI

    In Primo VE, the separate resource types "Manuscripts" and "Archival material" exist, which is right because the content is very different.
    In CDI however, these two types are taken together as one resource type: "Archival Material / Manuscripts".

    This gives an undesirable and confusing effect on the facet values in the blended scope (CDI with local records): three facets display for this material: "Manuscripts" and "Archival Material" for the local records and "Archival Material / Manuscripts" for the CDI records. See screenshot in attachment.

    In order to avoid this, we would need to make a local Resource type "Archival Material…

  16. Remove restriction on number of Primo facets value from CDI

    CDI facets are artificially restricted to a maximum of 20 facet values, including for content type, collection, language, and topic (subject). For the Journal Title facet, this is even lower at 10 facet values. The only time more facet values will be returned from CDI records is when local records share the same data and are returned in the results set.
    There is clear evidence from our Primo Analytics data that that our users value this feature, with an average of 1,550 to 1,750 facet filtering actions per day over the last few years.

  17. Allow request forms to be submitted without first needing to remove focus from fields

    If a user fills in the comment field on a physical request form in Primo and then clicks on the Request button the form refreshes but does not submit. Either a second click on the Request button is required to submit it or the user needs to click away from the comment field to remove the focus from it before clicking on the Request button.

  19. Provide option to 'View All' authors in the author facet

    After performing a search, users sometimes want to filter by an author that does not appear in the top 20 most frequently returned. We would like to provide users with the option to view and browse all authors returned in the search results. A 'View All' link at the base of the facet could be added to enable this.
