Primo NDE UI: Introduce Dark mode
Our users are complaining that the new UI is too bright and causes eyestrain and specifically requesting a Dark Mode option. We have also developed our new website using the same materials/components as are used in the NDE to align our visual identity so we know that it is possible with the tools at hand. Lastly, I recently saw this article and the first thing it mentioned is that young people want dark mode: https://www.choice360.org/libtech-insight/5-surprising-things-ive-learned-about-gen-z-college-students/

Dark mode support should be built into all new major web applications. It's not just young users... lots of people who spend all day in front of a monitor want (or need) to reduce eye strain.

Thanks Susan, we are also keen to have this functionality developed. As previously noted it improves accessibility for our users - something Ex Libris has been very dedicated to in other areas. :-)

Our students ask for this too. Some say that they prefer it in general, others because their dorm rooms are tiny and they don't want the light to bother their sleeping roommate when up late at night doing research.

Older staff and faculty also need this option, as well as some with disabilities.
