Display on the Location list: textual descriptions of the physical arrangement of a holding unit
Since the updates in January 2021, the Location list has become capable of displaying the Field 866, 852, etc.
There are cases in which the issues of a single journal title are located separately according to publication years. Here we present a case example to explain the situation:
Group 1: The issues published in the last several years; they are shelved in the “New Arrival.”
Group 2: The issues published several years before the Group 1; they are shelved in the “Back Numbers.”
Group 3: The issues published more than 20 years ago; they are shelved in the “Remote Storage.”
Although the groups are virtually separate, they are actually a collective single unit in means of holdings. The Field 866 given to the journal holding is a single character string, and is shared among the above three, resulting in displaying the identical holding range, regardless of the actual location of each group. It looks as if each group includes identical set of issues, and it is impossible to locate a particular issue just by looking at the character string.
However, when each Location is opened, we can see each item’s holding range in the form of ‘from … until ….” We request holding range to be displayed on the Location list as well.

In the case of the journal above, 2 identical holdings of Hiyoshi Media Center are shown. The library patrons may assume there are 2 sets of 1<1927>-90<2003> in this library. In fact, the library holds only one set; Vol.75 and after are placed in the Psychology Lab, and the rest are in the repository.
