Enable synonymisation in phrase searches
It is still the case in Primo that one version of a synonymised term proves searchable as a phrase search, but not both, despite both having been added to the local and/or hosted versions (delete where applicable) of the Primo synonym list.
E.g. “Versus” and “vs” have been added to the synonym list, but whilst a search for “Semantics versus pragmatics” returns results, a search for “Semantics vs pragmatics” returns none.
It needs to be appreciated that there will always be instances where performing a search without speechmarks for a search term that includes a synonym isn't practicable, in particular if the other words in the search term are commonplace, e.g. “men and women” versus “men & women”.
It is specious to insist that when performing an exact search, the end user always knows what they are looking for. A user can perform an exact search using one version of a word in entirely good faith, but not find it because the record for the title they are searching for contains a different version of that word. That would be true of American versus British spellings of words, and of acronyms rendered with or without full stops, to name but two examples.
Moreover, many users’ use of phrase searching is intended primarily to guarantee the order of a number of words, not to guarantee that the spelling matches their typing.
