1. New institutional number sequence, or reset Additional ID, to shorten hold shelf pickup number

   In the April 2019 RN the feature "Additional ID for Hold Request Management" became available and it has been very useful for our library, especially since we have an open hold shelf and need anonymized hold shelf slips. By the end of 2022 we noticed that the number sequence wasn't reset when it reached 999-999-999 like we expected it to. Instead new numbers are added and we've been told that it will just continue to add new numbers and never reset. Very long serial numbers are not user-friendly, neither for the staff, nor for the patron.

   To prevent long numbers, we would like to have a separate number sequence for each institution, with the opportunity to reset the numbers locally (for example annually). If this is not possible, we would like the existing number sequence to reset at 999-999-999 and start again at 000-000-001 for the whole Alma system.

   The Additional ID is generated by a  third party software component which we have no control of.

2. make location type „unavailable“ functional: items in these locations should be shown as unavailable in Alma and Primo

   We need the possibility to show items as unavailable in Primo without creating requests (work orders) for them.

   Our use cases are
   - items which have been restituted (via a provenance research project) and are no longer in the library
   - items which are blocked for usage for years
   - items which are not usable for certain reasons
   All of these have to be shown in the discovery interface, although users won't get them for a long time or at all.

   Now, all of these items have a "green" availability status in Primo and we struggle to put information about the non-availability on several places in the holdings display so that users know that they won't get it. When using work orders to achieve "red" availability status, users are confused about the fact that the item is "in process" and there is a request for it.

   To sum up: Give us the possibility to show items as unavailable
   - without unnecessary work, in terms of putting items which are not in any kind of processing into work orders (and afterwards have to clean up errors as our 5 year experience with work orders has shown)
   - and for clear display of availability to our users

   We need the possibility to show items as unavailable in Primo without creating requests (work orders) for them.

   Non available items must be in some process. Using work orders enables setting a description for the work order to indicate why the item is not available.

3. Change override return date and time default value.

   Hi,

   Hope that there has a way to change the default time that comes up on "Override return date and time" from 00:00 to 23:59?

   Otherwise, it's an extra step for our staff backdating returns.

4. Provide gender in search results of patron search

   In the Manage Service Patron, when searching for a patron, it would be useful if the search results included the patron's gender (if it’s known) so that library staff can address the right pronoun to the user in front of them and thus avoid misgendering .

5. More circulating rules and displays

   The display of the elements of the Conditions of Use (TOU) in Primo VE offers only one choice: "loanable" or "non-loanable" (or other local labels). This poses a problem for us for the elements which we wish to communicate on site during the day and which must therefore not appear as borrowed to avoid misunderstandings (cf. computer equipment) but which we wish to lend without "override". At the other end of the spectrum, we have the confidential copies which must not appear with a mention as "communicable ..." either. These conditions of use should be displayed according to 4 modalities: “Borrow at home”, “Use on site”, “Non-borrow” and “Confidential”.

   The codes for these labels (ViewIt Labels table) are c.uresolver.getit2.itemlist.noncirculating vs c.uresolver.getit2.item_list.circulating with no apparent alternative. This binary choice of "circulating" corresponds to the menu Config> Fulfillment> Advanced Policy Configuration> Is loanable rule ("In reading room only" has the same result as "True").

   We therefore believe that there should be 2 new options for the "Is loanable" rule: "On-site use" which would allow any colleague at the loan office to make a short-term loan, and "Confidential" which does not. would allow no transaction.

6. shortcut for "Write to RFID and save"

   Dear Ex Libris
   There is already a shortcut for reading RFID tags (Alt+A) when scanning in an item.
   It would be very helpful and speed up processes, if there was also a shortcut for "Write to RFID and save" in the physical item editor for quick tagging items.

7. Add the Override Return Date and Time option to Individual Returns from Patron Services (rather than just from the Bulk Returns page)

   The current (11/2021) Returns tab in Manage Patron Services does not display an option for Override Return Date and Time.

   Please add cross-functionality so that the override can be performed from this screen in addition to its current location in the bulk Return Items function.

   In this way, a single item can be returned with the corrected date (preventing a letter being issued for overdue fines) without having to specifically route in through the Return Items function, which is listed in documentation as being suited for bulk returns.

   For a library with lower circulation numbers or individual items returning through ILL that need an adjusted return date, the workflow would be much easier to streamline if both screens had the option.

8. Offer letter/notice digest option for users

   Currently, every book checked out and returned (if loan receipt and return receipt letters are enabled in Alma) will trigger an email notice to a patron. The option to set a daily digest of fulfillment activity would cut down on the number of letters received by patrons, which would help ensure that they're not overwhelmed with information and potentially miss a detail in the flood of emails.

9. Holds on behalf of patron

   We would like staff operators (perhaps with certain roles) to be able to place holds on behalf of patrons regardless of TOU settings.

   Additional information: we don’t allow our undergraduate user group to place holds on items that are currently available in our local collection, just on items that are checked out. In the testing I’ve been doing, configuring that TOU option also prevents staff from placing a hold on an available item on their behalf.

   To remedy this we’ve allowed undergraduate students to place holds in the TOU but hid the hold request service on the Discovery Display Logic. Because the service is hidden, undergraduates can’t place holds on any item.

   Is there a way for us to prevent undergraduate students from placing holds on available items but still allowing staff to place a hold on their behalf?

13. Patron discovery activity should be viewable in Manage Fulfillment Activities

    It would be very useful to be able to access a dashboard via "Manage fulfillment activities" that would show stats for the Patron's Discovery activity -- for example, the number of times they have signed into their account, etc.

14. Include loan and fee information in the "User Notifications Letter"

    We would like to be able to use the "User Notifications Letter" for end of the school year cleanup. When seniors are graduating we want to let them know what they need to return and/or pay off in order to graduate. We can use a fulfillment job to send the User Notifications Letter to patrons in a set. However, it doesn't currently include the information about each patron's circulation activity, so we can't use it for this purpose.

    Adding the loan and fee information into the xml for that letter would allow us to access it and include it in letters that we want to send to targeted groups at specific times.

15. Item Policy Sorting in Drop-down Lists (including Rialto)

    When selecting values from a drop-down list of item policies, scrolling through a list to find a common one (say, "Books") is onerous. The documentation states that drop-down sort order can't be defined by up/down arrows or default values in the table in Fulfillment Configuration. In Rialto, the options aren't even presented alphabetically.

    I would like to see options to sort Item Policy drop-downs by either or all of these:
    a. most-used first
    b. most-recently-used first
    c. alphabetical
    d. configurable based on up/down arrows in Item Policy Configuration Table

16. Make "Borrowing patron" a customizable option on Scan In Items screen

    When a book is scanned in from the Scan In Items page, there are some options under the Settings gear that be added to display more (or less) information. One of these should be to show the information on the borrowing patron and a link to Manage Fulfillment Activities or the Patron Record. I understand this is an available field on the "Return Items" page. However, there are times when I am scanning in books that I'm not sure if they are signed out or not. If I use the Return Items page I get a pop-up for every book that isn't signed out which is mildly annoying so when I have large batches of books (say shipped from another library location) where there are likely both returns and branch-owned materials, I often use the Scan In Items page but then miss out on the Borrower field.

    When a book is scanned in from the Scan In Items page, there are some options under the Settings gear that be added to display more (or less) information. 17. Attachments to Patron Welcome Letter

    It would be useful to be able to attach files to Patron Welcome Letter, e.g. library rules and privacy notice as pdf.

    They are too long texts to be added in letter itself but important to be delivered to the new patrons. To be able to send them automatically to new patrons with welcome letter would save paper work and time at customer service desk.

18. Return the borrower's name to the top of the screen

    Please return the patron/borrower's name to the top of the loans screen. Having it on the right side in the new layout, makes the screen harder to read - and it is much easier to lend items to the wrong person.

19. Customize the position of the Patron information on the Patron services page

    In the new Alma UI, the position of the Patron information on the Patron services page is on top or at the right of the page, depending on your screen resolution.
    Our staff works with width screens, causing the Patron information to show on the right of the page.
    We would like to have this information always on top of the page: currently we can't customize this.

20. Hide Leganto-specific features from Course Reserves when institution has not implemented Leganto

    There is a very large number of links, buttons, and options in the Course Reserves area of Alma that only function if Leganto has been implemented. This severely complicates rollout of course reserves and is an ongoing annoyance. Perhaps Leganto-specific user roles could be added, and if a user does not have those roles, then the features would not appear.
