Content

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).

How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.

The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

If you want to add an institutional repository, please open a case and follow the documentation here:

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

**If you are a content provider, please review the submission guides for more information on how to reach out

  2. Enrich Pressbooks Directory CZ collection with discovery metadata from the OPDS feed

The Pressbooks Directory (https://pressbooks.directory/) indexes thousands of open access books created by educational institutions.

The corresponding CZ collection "Pressbooks Directory" (Collection ID 611086618140000041) makes these books available for activation in Alma, but the bibs currently carry only title (245), author (100), and language (008). As an example, the record for "Stories From The Place of Sports in The University, 3rd Edition" from University of Washington Libraries (MMS 9948351757900041) contains no 520, 650, or 856 for cover, though Pressbooks supplies a paragraph-length description, seven subject headings, and a cover image URL for this book. Expanding the field mapping to…

  4. Include contemporary internet slang and modern linguistics database from SlangPedia into CDI

As an academic researcher and library administrator, I would like to suggest integrating the linguistic data and modern culture resources from SlangPedia into the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI) and Knowledge Base. \n\nModern academic research, especially in fields like sociolinguistics, digital communication, and media studies, heavily relies on understanding evolving internet slang, social media terms (e.g., TikTok abbreviations), and text-based cultural shifts. SlangPedia provides a structured, well-explained index of these contemporary terms that would be highly valuable for university students and researchers studying modern language patterns. \n\nIntegrating this resource will enhance the discoverability of open-access linguistic reference sources. You…

This is urgently required to be added to the Community Zone to enable activation.

  16. Please add De Gruyter databases to the CZ as database collections

Many De Gruyter databases exist in the Community Zone only as portfolios in the collection "De Gruyter Databases". Please add databases as database type electronic collections to CZ. Databases as portfolios appear as books in Primo which less than desirable.

  17. Either exclude front matter journal content or create new resource type for front matter

In CDI: there are records for the front matter (e.g. title page or copyright page) of some journal issues. And they appear with the "article" resource type, which is very misleading for our patrons. ExLibris Support says there is no available resource type for front matter, so they just get presented as articles.

My idea is for ExLibris to either filter out the front matter content from CDI (my preference) or create a different resource type for them.

    Examples:

  20. Add General history of Africa, XI: global Africa today

    Hello,
We had a request for the a few volumes of UNESCO's "General History of Africa" to be added to Alma.

General history of Africa, IX: General history of Africa revisited
    DOI: https://doi.org/10.54678/LHRT2470
    ISBN: 978-92-3-100809-2

General history of Africa, X: Africa and its diasporas
    DOI: https://doi.org/10.54678/IHFW3136
    ISBN: 978-92-3-100637-1

General history of Africa, XI: global Africa today
    DOI: https://doi.org/10.54678/YRPF7307
    ISBN: 978-92-3-100811-5

While they are surprisingly not available in an UNESCO collection in Alma I was able find the first two titles listed above in the collection JSTOR All Research Reports (Collection ID: 616210000000000009).

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find volume XI…
