← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s).
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category. The ideas for new providers will be annually prioritized via the CERV process.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

    Add a new collection in ALMA CZ for PROQUEST DISSERTATIONS AND THESES (PDTG)
    Content should be accessed at theses title level as in ebooks collections.
    In ALMA CZ there is a collection titled "ProQuest Nursing Dissertations" with 15164 portfolios. We would like a similar collection for all ProQuest theses and dissertations.

    Hello,

    The ProQuest Dissertations & Theses collection is already available in the Alma CZ and supported as an aggregator package.
    A title list is not available to enable the creation of portfolios, but the linking is fully supported via an OpenURL method ensuring access to the relevant full text content.

  2. Create an Ebook Central Academic Complete specific to North America

    Currently the Ebook Central Academic Complete collection contains contains all titles in the collection regardless of territory restrictions set by the publishers. There are 318 titles which cannot be used in the United States. This is a lot of editing for libraries in the US with this collection. Some other geographic areas have their own collections. Create one for North America or the United States, depending on the geographic restrictions by publishers. If Canada and the United States of America have different restrictions, please separate.

    Currently the ProQuest EBook Central offerings do not include a North America specific collection that we can represent in the Alma CZ.
    We suggest that you consider utilizing the Upload Electronic Holdings feature in Alma which will automatically manage and maintain all of your Ebook Central holdings based on your acquisitions directly from ProQuest including representation of territorial rights. This will ensure that you are automatically activating only the titles available for your institution, for all of your Ebook Central content.

    For more information on this see our Knowledge Center documentation. Search for “Upload Electronic Holdings from ProQuest Ebook Central” under the Alma product.

    We would also like to kindly remind that any requests for ProQuest content do not need to go through the Idea Exchange platform. You can simply submit a Support Case for these requests.

  3. Factiva (separate electronic collections for different subscription products)

    I would like separate electronic collections in the Community Zone for Factiva, specific to the academic subscription product and non-academic subscription products.

    We have an academic subscription to Factiva and have activated the Electronic Collection 'Factiva' in the Community Zone. When you follow the links to full text in many of the portfolio records, you get a message saying 'No search results. This may be due to content restrictions on your academic account'.     Hello all,

    Thank you for this suggestion!
    We have looked into this request and also discussed the matter with Factiva and ProQuest. We ingest the Factiva content through our ProQuest feed.

    Factiva cannot produce individual title lists and therefore we will leave the collection as is.

    That said, we are in touch with Factiva and are hoping to see improvements.

  5. Improve indexing of HAL in CDI

    Hal is one of the most important French open archive. The database offers open access documents directly from the platform and references to documents for which the full text is not available.
    In CDI two collections allow to activate the search on this database.
    - Hyper Article en Ligne (HAL) (Open Access) (ID CDI VOOES) which covers only open access records.
    - Hyper Article Online (HAL) (CDI ID 1XC) which covers all the records in HAL.
    Both of the HAL collections are link-in-records databases
    The problem is that it shows as unavailable the records to which we could have gained…

    Our analysts suggested this can be solved by the following settings:

    1. CDI-only full text activation: Unchecked
    2. CDI search activation status: Active

    That will allow distinguishing Open Access records from records that are not available in full text.

    Please add (enriched and basic) data of the e-books on Ebsco e-books.
    especially the titles of the dutch publisher Noordhoff. The books are available on Ebsco e-books.
    The Publisher wants to share data.

    Hello,

    Our analysis indicates that EBSCO does not offer a separate collection of eBooks for titles published by Noordhoff. This prevents us from being able to create such a separate collection in our systems, as we strive to remain consistent with the providers’ offerings.
    That said, all of EBSCO’s eBook offerings are available in the database eBooks on EBSCOhost, which is updated regularly. Any Noordhoff titles available via EBSCO are included in this collection. If there are particular titles they are missing, we can follow up with the provider to see if they are available and should be added. This can be addressed via a Support Case.

  8. Add Sage Premier 2018 and Sage Deep Backfile Upgrade 2018 packages

    Please add these packages ASAP. We'd like to see these new title packages at the beginning of a new calendar year. As it is, we either need to take the time to create a local package or we leave our users without accurate holding info. This is not the time-saving we're supposed to realize with the Alma CZ.

  10. E-Book target for SFX: Textes littéraires français

    In the attachment I send you a title list of the collection "Textes littéraires français" from the Publisher Librairie Droz, which should therefore have an appropriate target attached to them.   11. Periodicals Archive Online

    ProQuest's Periodicals Archive Online has some rich metadata for journal articles that would be a valuable addition to the PCI.

    For example:
    Dahl, R.A. 1957, "The Concept of Power", Behavioral science, vol. 2, no. 3, pp. 201

    There is no metadata present in the PCI but Proquest have full details (Proquest document ID - 1301269515) and would enhance our use of this resource if it existed in Primo.

  12. PCI Collections Descriptions

    PCI Collections have very minimal descriptions. It's very time consuming to try and track down the appropriate page on the external resource's site to both see descriptive information about the collection and also try to get publication and title indexes. What if this was all made available through one of ExL's websites? At least knowing what is available in a collection before hitting "activate" (including number of titles, title lists, etc) would be fantastically more effective, rather than blindly switching on PCI collections because they sound cool.

    Many metadata improvements have done to the quality and collection descriptions in CDI.

    Please open a separate idea for specific collections/providers that still lack in the descriptions.

  13. Add a new vocabulary in the CZ

    We have in NZ of CCUC (Catalan Union Catalog) a vocabulary in Catalan that is a controlled language used for indexing the genre or form and it can be used in bibliographic records together with any other subject heading system. Its use is of interest to any library that uses Catalan as the language of the catalog (for example, libraries in Andorra, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, etc.). Some of these libraries use ALMA and have requested that this vocabulary be accessible in the CZ in order to use it.
    Therefore, we request the indexing of the TGFC vocabulary…

    In the SFX KB the magazine "Science" (AAAS) is a portfolio in the "Miscellaneous E-journals" target in SFX.

    Please consider:

    a) creating a separate target for Science magazine and
    b) improving the linking level (currently journal-level)

    In addition, also consider adding a PCI collection.

    Let's add Welsh Newspapers Online to Primo Central Index.
    The collection is available in the Alma CZ, but not currently tickable in PCI so the newspaper scope is not able to pick up this fundamental Welsh resource.
