← Have an idea for Ex Libris?

We welcome your ideas for new content (metadata) to add to the Knowledge Bases (KBs - Alma CZ, SFX, 360) and Discovery services (CDI - Central Discovery Index whose data supports Primo and Summon).


How to increase your idea's visibility and get more votes:
  1. Check if your idea has already been posted and vote for it before posting a new idea.
  2. Choose the right category: "New Provider" for content from a provider that has no available content in the KBs or CDI, or "Existing Provider" for content from a provider that already has content available in the KBs or CDI.
  3. Add a direct link to the provider/resource you suggest, and a contact person if possible.
  4. For enrichment requests add the relevant collection ID(s). 
  5. Make sure you mention any specific added value your idea has to the community such as language or supporting diversity.
  6. Did you find errors in an existing collection? please open a case.
  7. A new year has begun but no corresponding annual collection? post an idea in Idea Exchange, make sure to mention if it is an existing provider.


The categories for new content ideas are:
  1. Existing Provider - if your idea is for a new collection from a provider that already has content available in the KBs and CDI or enriching records for an existing collection, use this category. No voting is necessary, ideas for existing providers will be handled regardless of voting.
  2. New Providers - if your idea is for content from a provider that does not have any content available in the KBs and CDI, choose this category.
  3. Other - for non provider specific ideas

**Please be aware that ideas with no comments or votes for the past three years, and have less than 30 votes, will be closed. The closed ideas will still be available for review, and the votes will be freed up for supporting other content ideas.

How can we improve Content?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

    We are working with the provider to review our options, the Knowledgebases do not represent well some of the content types that are included in this collection.

  2. ASME Complete Digital Standards

    ASME Complete Digital Standards is a separate product from ASME Digital Collection Journals, eBooks and Conference Proceedings.

    Creating a collection for the Complete Digital Standards that would allow discovery and access for each standard would be greatly appreciated.

    Derwent Innovations Index is an very important A&I content. It is available through the ISI Web of Knowledge interface and is a Web-accessible product that merges the Derwent World Patents Index with the Derwent Patents Citation Index. It provides access to more than 14,800,000 patents with links to cited and citing patents, cited articles, and full-text patent data sources. This resource gives users a comprehensive and international overview of inventions in three categories: chemical, electrical and electronic, and engineering.

  6. BAR International Series 2025

    Not seeing anything in the CZ for this yet. Do see some 2025 material accessible on their platform, though on their MARC download page (https://ftp.fulcrum.org/BAR/MARC/) it looks like only the 2025 British series is ready so far. Just want to make sure International will be added!

  8. ProQuest Legislative Insight 2024 & ProQuest Legislative Insight 2025

    ProQuest offers annual modules on the ProQuest Legislative Insight platform, and several are already in the CZ as database collections with CDI link in record records. For example:

    However, there are no year-specific CZ collections for 2024 and 2025. There is a CZ collection for ProQuest Legislative Insight 2024-forward (614940000000000401), but we don't want to activate that one, as we haven't purchased an ongoing subscription (i.e. all content going forward). We purchased 2024 and 2025 as discrete years and won't…

    We purchased 1980-2010 of the Springer Protocols Archive. There are 3 targets but none have the same coverage as our purchase: 1980-2004, 1980-2024 and 2008-2024. Would it be possible to get a target in SFX that covers 1980-2010?

    We are using the Springer title lists from this page

    https://adminportal.springernature.com/metadata/kbart

    However, there is no designated title list for Springer Protocols Archive 1980-2010.

    We will reach out to Springer and ask for this title list, but if it is a custom product, we might not be able to receive the title list.

    Please consider adding to CDI images from:
    https://www.flickr.com/commons/institutions

    In the CZ there is a database for "Flickr Images" - Collection ID: 6113989190000041, however, it is not CDI.

    The images from libraries and archives that appear in Flickr can be a very useful addition to image format search in CDI.

  17. Add CDI link-in record records for 3 JoVE Encyclopedia of Experiments collections

    JoVE, an existing provider partner of Ex Libris, has contributed many video collections to the CZ. Most of the collections have CDI link in record records we can activate. The MARCs and portfolios for JoVE are very poor (because these are video collections, so it's not possible to generate good data from the KBART files loaded to produce the portfolios and bibs), so it is very important that there be link in record records we can activate instead. However, for 3 JoVE Encyclopedia of Experiments collections, there are portfolios and bibs but no link in record records. Could Ex Libris…

    Could these be added to the CDI if they are not already there?
