Exclude other libraries' LibGuides from "Add results beyond your library's collections" by default
The "Add results beyond your library's Collection" facet should by default exclude other libraries' LibGuides so their Circulation, ILL, and other library services LibGuides are not shown to my library's patrons. It is confusing for patrons to search for interlibrary loan only to find dozens of other libraries' LIbGuides.

Relevancy rankings
Change relevancy rankings to push articles above books and e-books (or at least not favor books). Most Summon users want articles more than books.
1 voteWe have made adjustments to the boosts for articles vs books and e-books. If this is still an issue, if you could provide some examples, that would help.

Add option to force 360 Link to load over HTTPS
In October, Google Chrome release 62 will begin labeling any website loaded over http and containing a form (i.e. every library webpage ever) as "Not Secure." You can read more about that here: https://security.googleblog.com/2017/04/next-steps-toward-more-connection.html
We currently route traffic from Summon and other services we control to 360Link over HTTPS, but we can't force all our users onto HTTPS (especially those coming from Google Analytics). Since the *.search.serialssolutions.com wildcard certificate covers every instance of 360 Link, why not add an option to force all connections to use HTTPS? (Or just make it the default.)

Make "Best Bets" show up when tag keywords are present in search, not just when there's an exact match
Right now, Best Bets show up when there's an exact match on tags, e.g., our job search assistance information shows up when someone searches "jobs" or "job search," etc., but not when someone searches "how can i look for jobs," etc. (unless we anticipate every situation where that tag word might be used). Could the Best Bets be brought up whenever keywords are present in the search, not just when there's an exact match?

"Exact" search for certain fields
Add the functionality to do an "exact" search on certain fields. For example there are very short titles which can be search much better this way. Also signatures in the LCCallNumber field could be found much easier. We are api users (Backend Summon, Frontend VuFind) and are helping ourselves at the moment with "constructed" values for the (for example) LCCallNumber to simualte the possibility of an exact search - but this is far from optimal.

Create a method for searching an exact word which does not apply corrected spelling
Create a method for searching an exact word which does not apply corrected spelling. Sometimes there are specific words that are not "normal" spelling which get change to variants and the term you are looking for disappears within a sea of results.
e.g. frocta - a latin word gets changed to frota
and you get 18,000 results - none of them the word we searched upon.
6 votesThis is a bug; the feature should search on the word as you type it and provide a link to search results with the suggested corrected spelling. Are there other examples where this is occurring?

Add Chicago Notes-Bibliography Style as an option for the citation generator.
Chicago Notes-Bibliography (NB) style is the preferred citation style for historians, but Chicago Author-Date is the only option available in the automatic citation generator in Summon. As the formats are noticeably different, it would be useful to have both options available for users to choose from.
5 votesCustom citations are now available in Summon as part of the August 2022 release. This citation style should be available. If it is not, or if any citation style does not meet your criteria, you can create your own.

The publication date filter is currently designed to allow filtering within the last 100 years, insufficient to finding U.S. primary sources
The publication date filter is currently designed to allow filtering within the last 100 years. This is insufficient when trying to limit results to find primary source documents, e.g., related to the U.S. Civil War, 1861-1865.

Fix the date issue when searching books.
Currently, if you search for books within a time frame, e.g. last five years, you will also get books that were published outside the date range, e.g. 1980. This is a serious problem for students needing to be current, yet having to sift through older material to find newer material. This is not an issue with journal articles.

Provide the ability to separate books and ebooks when searching.
Currently, we cannot search print books only. We can separate ebooks/books if we want ebooks only be either selecting the full text limiter or the electronic books subject limiter. However, we can't do the same for print (hard copy books).

Add search history and allow searching with sets from the search history
Filter options and relevance ranking is one way to search, explore and discover, but it has limitations. To combine previous searches is standard in all kind of bibliographic and full text databases and would be a true enhancement. Most professional information specialists lack confident in search systems that only rely on filter and relevance ranking. Give us boolean search using sets from the search history!

Exclude Content Type Newspaper Article should include Online Newspaper Content
The Newspaper facet in Summon should also include/exclude online content from newspapers. Online newspaper content is currently coded as a Web Resources
If you do a search for "Devos education" with newspaper articles excluded, 25 of the first 30 citations are from:
Washington Post - Blogs
Washington Post (Online)
New York Times (Online)
52 votesThe initial work for this has been completed as part of the August 2022 quarterly release. We have identified content that should be labeled newspaper content and will continue to improve that content as we process it for ingestion in CDI.

Don't limit search results to 200 items
Don't limit search results to 200 items. Many students use Summon as part of their literature review strategy to gather information for dissertations. Removing the limit of only 200 results being returned would allow users to get a far more accurate picture of what is available to them from the literature they are reviewing.
39 votesAs of the July 2017 release you can now review up to the first 1,000 results. To do this you will need to configure the number of results retrieved at a time from 10 to 25.
We maintain a limit at 1,000 to prevent crawlers from scraping content or overloading the system with traffic.

Make citation formats customisable
We would like to be able to customise the Harvard citation format to our house style, and to add custom citation formats to the list.

The widget should make suggestions for words and phrases as the user types into the search box. This should be the same functionality as is present on the default Summon search box.
