  1. Clearing search will not let the user enter a new search directly

When the user clicks the x that clears the search-field in order to make a new search, the cursor is not placed in the search field. The user has to click in the search field in order to write something. The way this works it is quicker to just select the text in the search field and erase it by hitting the Back space.

  2. Add "sent from" box in "email this item."

Currently, if you want to email an item to another person, there is no space to indicate who the sender is.

  3. Allow more than 2 custom panels to be expanded by default

At present, no more than 2 custom panels in the right-hand section of the Summon results page can be expanded by default. Others are only accessible by a More... link. Give libraries the option of setting how many custom panels are open by default.

  4. Ability to match language settings of Summon with 360Link

The interface language of Summon and 360Link has no connection.
So, when linking from Summon to 360 Link, abroad students have to change both language settings of Summon and 360Link.
This is inconvenient for abroad students.

  5. Fix the date issue when searching books.

Currently, if you search for books within a time frame, e.g. last five years, you will also get books that were published outside the date range, e.g. 1980. This is a serious problem for students needing to be current, yet having to sift through older material to find newer material. This is not an issue with journal articles.

  6. Database order in 360 Link and EJP: Make it possible to upload changes in a file

In the 360 Link Admin Console it’s possible to change the order in which databases er shown in the Sidebar Helper frame, the 360 Link results page, and the E-Journal Portal results page. As it is you can change the order by moving one database at a time on the list (either by dragging the database to a new position on the list or by changing the number the database has on the list. We would like it to be possible to download the list of databases in a file, make the changes in a spreadsheet and upload it. At…

  7. Add visibilty of local notes to item detail view

Many libraries add additional notes to MARC records to enhance the findability of items and relevance of search results (e.g., a ToC or chapter listing when not already part of the record). Make these visable to the user.

This functionality has been added. To turn on public notes, go to the Admin Console under Settings > Search Results. At the bottom, there are options to “Display eResource Public Notes” and “Display eResource Location Notes”. Change the setting from Default to Custom and set the option to Yes, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

  8. Open Access filtering and restriction

Open-access resources should not need to be selected in a library's Intota instance to reliably indicate that they are accessible to the Summon user.

Currently, when a user checks both the OA filter and the 'include outside sources' box, some resources present in results with the ambiguous message that they are open-access, but are unavailable or only obtainable via ILL (according to what text the library displays in this circumstance.) Users can't know which to believe- is it accessible or not?

Since open-access resources brought into search results come from either a library's Intota selections or the Summon index, it…

  9. Mechanism for Best Bets to 'harvest' LibAnswers FAQs (from SpringShare)

LibAnswers FAQs have topics, keywords, titles and serve a similar purpose to best bets (in our approach anyway).

An automated regular harvest of these merged with existing best bets makes it easy to share the workload managing this sort of content and pushes us closer to the idea that searching Summon is literally searching the Library.

  10. Summon configuration screens should prompt you to save changes

Some of the Summon configuration pages are getting very long. You don't see the Save button clear at the bottom unless you scroll.

Please add a reminder prompt if someone makes settings changes, but doesn't press Save. I tried to change the book/ebook setting three times before I figured out why it wasn't taking effect!

  11. Show all Availaility information of library catalog records.

When there are multiple availability information on library catalog, one of them shows up on results page and the others are hidden in current Summon interface.
It is favorable for library if all the availability information would be shown as default.

  12. sorting results by publication date

The sort by publication date newest/oldest in Summon does not sort by the displayed publication date but by the merged record date which is invisible to the end user.

The user is seeing the results screen and so it seems really odd to provide a publication date sort and then not allow the user to sort by the date that they can see since the behavior on the backend is entirely and completely transparent to them and doesn't seem to serve the user well by any stretch.

There needs to be a true publication date sort that uses the displayed

  13. Update Summon's AGLC citation style - AGLC4 is now available

We would like to see the AGLC3 citation style available in the Summon UI replaced by AGLC4 (or at least AGLC4 be made available as an option).

  14. Add SAML / federated / "Shibboleth" login option for saved searches

As the Summon Saved Searches function is being developed, options for authentication and storage using external web-scale identity systems have been added - Google account authentication / Google Drive, and Microsoft account authentication / Microsoft OneDrive.

    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Summon/Product_Documentation/Searching_in_The_Summon_Service/Using_Results/Summon%3A_Saving_Searches

My institution has avoided promoting this new feature because we have a strong policy of requiring all authentication to institutional systems, to be via institutional login.

I would like to see a SAML-based, federated (i.e. UK Access Management Federation) authentication option for this feature.

  16. Show whether "We only subscribe to some titles" is an option.

When you search a title and need to choose a database to subscribe in, it is not clear until you subscribe to the database whether "We only subscribe to some titles" is an option. It would be great if we could see in advance whether we are going to be able to select that option before subscribing to that database, either in the list of database options or in the database details. This would prevent a lot of extra clicking and frustration.

  17. Provide an overall percentage of MARC record availability at the database level.

Currently one can examine a few specific journals or books within a collection to determine if CONSER or other MARC records are available for a collection. This can be hit or miss. It would be great to see an overall percentage of MARC record availability at the database level as we do with the percentage of Summon coverage.

  18. Book reviews spotlight

A rollup of book review content, with any book reviews removed from the main results set and presented in a spotlight. The spotlight would present the top 3 to 5 results with summary informatino and a "more" link to see all book reviews.

  20. Update Summon Citation Generator to Current Editions

The citation generator in Summon is not using the most current style guides. In particular, we are most concerned about APA, AMA, and MLA. We request that those are updated to the most current versions and the Knowledge Center article updated accordingly. Thanks!
