Automatically update completed grants: Expected End Date and status
When a grant's Expected End Date has passed, Esploro should automatically update the grant lifecycle by populating the End Date (if not already present) and changing the grant status from Active to Historical. Currently, both actions require manual intervention, resulting in grants remaining active indefinitely despite having reached their completion date.
Introducing a scheduled job to perform these updates automatically would improve data quality, reduce administrative overhead, and ensure grant records more accurately reflect their true status. This would be particularly beneficial for integrations such as ORCID, where the absence of an End Date and continued Active status leads to inaccurate grant information being shared externally.
This enhancement would help institutions manage grants at scale and align system behaviour with the expectation that grants transition automatically once their expected end date has been reached.
